Mary's accent sounds "genuine" to me - that is, that is her natural voice. Although Wikipedia claims she was born in Germany, she's clearly been raised in a very English environment. She sounds like she was educated at a nice private school in the South East. If she's engaged, then a legion of fellas will be devastated. 😅

"Mary talking" videos are among my favorites. Smart, direct, knowledgeable. May the music video company continue to thrive and prosper. You've been extraordinarily careful NOT to reveal anything about your love life. I assume you think it's none of our business, and you're correct. I never noticed the switch of ring fingers. I always assumed your nose ring was real, and am happy that you dispensed with it. I've always used a pick, but don't just strum or play chords, which seems (to me) a kind of hybrid technique. Next time you're in the states, Mary, catch a Larkin Poe show if you can - two women of about your age, one with an operatic alto voice, the other an excellent slide guitar player. Their blues rock/hard rock style is not at all like yours, but you have similar musical backgrounds (starting at an early age, though they went public a decade sooner).

There's such an understated wonder and humble charm in your delivery, and while picking up a guitar in the early 90s wasn't going to hurt my chances.... Congrats on 4 years of being a full-time content creator. Fingerpicking is definitely harder than it looks. I first started trying to learn it in late '85, not long after I started playing guitar, because I read in Guitar Player magazine that Jeff Beck (RIP) fingerpicked. 16 years later, I was pretty ok with my index and thumb, but struggled to go any further. I'm not at all suggesting this method, but what finally let me get a good handle on it was accidentally cutting my right index finger in '03 and needing 4 stitches. With that finger out of commission, I grabbed a cheap ukulele that I had recently bought on a lark. My reasoning was that I had 4 good fingers and it has 4 strings. I dedicated each finger to one string and after a month or so, once I could use my index finger again, I was very comfortable fingerpicking. Cut to 20 years later and I both fingerpick and play ukulele almost exclusively.
