@@BlezzBeats good! I got a question. I make Ambient/soundscape music, also synthwave, and just strange in-between music like Boards of Canada. Is the Maschine appropriate for my style of music?
@BlezzBeats4 жыл бұрын
@@Jamslerr It definitely works for that, especially synthwave. My only concern is there are a lot of acoustic elements in Boards of Canadas music, you can sample anything in Maschine but if you like to record a whole bunch of longer segments over patterns that intersect I'd go for something even more linear and less loop oriented like a DAW, maybe Ableton or something. When it comes to samples and synths Maschine dominates with its hands on use, but it's loop oriented at it's core albeit you can technically do anything. To give a practical example: I've made a song using four 8-bar loops in Maschine and now I wanna arrange it to a 4 minute piece. So far so supreme. Now I wanna layer a guitar solo over the entire track. Here's where I'd just throw it into my DAW and do that instead, because it's smoother. You're always locked to your scenes when it comes to recordings, recording something over longer parts requires chopping your recording up to fit each piece onto a scene in order, which is what I used to do for remixes. Not optimal, but doable. I'd say ask around for a couple more opinions, I know for instance Only Phantom on our Discord community is a master in that realm of music and he uses a combination of Maschine and Ableton Live.

Having no visual indicator to see where each individual pattern is in its loop cycle is a little disappointing. So if a have a pattern length of 3 bars, another 5 bars, and another 10, all it shows is the play head go through the longest pattern before looping...even though the other patterns are looping at their individual lengths . The clip method is ok but for making phase looping and aleotoric music, the oattern mode is quicker to get very interestung results - especially if using empy space at the end of loops - creating the sane linear quality as clips but with more random probabilities.
@DopamineOverload5 жыл бұрын
Your video cracked me up, because I HATE the damn Ideas view and how early button-pushing made scenes work like they MADE SENSE. I wonder if they'll ever fix this. They probably won't. Enough complaints at the official forums, but they go ignored, always. This is the one main thing that always slows me down with Maschine and trying to arrange full ideas in it. I often just use it as a plugin inside Reaper and use the sounds/kits and let Reaper do all the hard work (and thus, making it easy).
@BlezzBeats5 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they’ll fix it lol, it must be a majority that are against it! Maschine was fine being Maschine I don’t get why they’re trying to make it Ableton Live. I still find it quicker to work in standalone but I find myself using the mouse alot more. Simple thing such as duplicating the scene takes a couple extra pushes now so you might as well do the right-click.

Don't append the scenes, duplicate them instead. Hold shift and press Scene and there's duplicate. If you press scene again now or if you made the mistake of just pressing Scene without shift before you did anything with the Scene button - you'll come to a page which pretty much controls the Ideas view and appends scenes from there. So just press shift + Scene and hit scene twice or get into another mode like pad mode or keyboard mode to get out of the menu.

Maybe I'm missing something as I'm still really new to all this, but the fact that I can't freely work with audio files that span multiple scenes seems like a massive limitation. Say I want a sample of someone speaking over the entire beat, or to just freestyle guitar over the whole beat to add some texture, would I have to chop it into multiple patterns and not be able to repeat scenes at all? Not gonna lie this almost seems like a dealbreaker I can't imagine getting away from just putting audio where I want it. Update: I'm dumb didn't realize audio triggered in one pattern will keep playing even if the pattern ends if the audio is longer than the pattern. Still makes it a bit of a bitch to move around audio files but I'll take it.

@BlezzBeats5 жыл бұрын
Your hunch is right, if you check Scene/Section in Preferences -> Default it should be set to "Scene only" and without "Link when duplicating sections" by default. That's how I do it, when I duplicate a scene I get the same patterns on all groups, and any pattern I wanna make changes to I just hold pattern and press duplicate before I get in there. If however you set it to "Scenes and patterns" copying a scene will make duplicates of each pattern as well. I like having it the other way around cause you avoid a bunch of unnecessary patterns that make it harder to navigate.

Nice vid! I have a question: I want to add longer automation for breakdown i.e. for 16 bars for one sound from pattern in group - what is the fastest way to do it? Right now I need to create copy of group with sound to be able to automate without messing current pattern (group) with automation, stretch it to 16 bars and automate manually which is hard and not convinient - are there automations curves or something? Is there easy way? Its really annoying ^^ thank you!
@BlezzBeats5 жыл бұрын
Are you automating on group or sound level? If you're just automating parameters on a sound level there's no reason to copy the group. If you want to make a pattern different from another one, make the habit of duplicating it by holding pattern and pressing duplicate. Either make several scenes with different patterns, or a longer one. If you have a 4 bar loop on one pattern in a scene - first hold pattern and duplicate it, then keep holding it and double it four times to make a 16 bar pattern. Then go ahead and record your automations!

Nice vid, can you explain how to record audio tracks with the machine software?
@BlezzBeats5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Simply use sampling and record your audio, then when you have it ready on a pad (think of your pad as a track) hold shift and press browse. Scroll from "Sampler" up to "Audio". Press load (if i remember correctly). And voila - now it's an audio track. There are limitations to it right now, you can't nudge it around etc. without actually editing the sample, which is why I still prefer just using it in sampler mode for the mostpart. Unless I wanna real-time timestretch it, then it needs to be in Audio mode. Check out my video "Using Maschine as a looper", it's basically the same principle so you might understand it better. I also talk about it a little bit in my Maschine 2.7 tutorial video.
@vlove8885 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I'm trying to decide between the mk3 or the Mpc live, i'm a guitarist and audio tracks are very important to me, I watched your other videos and I seen the one when you compare the two.
@BlezzBeats5 жыл бұрын
@@vlove888 Dope! Well in terms of the audio track capabilities the Maschine is ahead a tiny bit. The overview is better and less confusing. It's nowhere near a typical DAW but it is a more streamlined workflow. You could use the "looper" functions and build up a track real fast for example. If you're tight timing-wise, you won't run into many issues. Like I speak on in this video, you need to get used to a loop-pattern way of thinking when you structure your songs since patterns can't cross over scenes. Same thing with the mpc live basically except it's called Sequences and Tracks. Come to think of it I think the MPC Software has some audio tracks that work like in a regular daw, but it's still a complete mess of a GUI.

I’m not sure how much they’ve adapted some of the keys to newer software since I had it, for instance if you can still push scene just once instead of shift + scene?

Thank you for the video man I ended up figuring it out I just had to watch your vid a few dozen times lol but I got it I can be pretty impatient sometimes I been using fl studio for years and wanted to try something new with machine studio I hate the arrangement set up but your vid helped the most out of all the ones I watched ill be subscribing keep up the good work @@BlezzBeats

Thanks for the video, very helpful. I have a question. Lets say you want an 16 bar intro but on the 16th bar want a fill in drum bit to bring the drums in do you have to have a whole track or group with no midi notes in just to fill the gap? I cant seem to move my patterns around within a scene. Example I just want to fill in the last 16 bar (Block)
@BlezzBeats4 жыл бұрын
Hey moosie, you got it right. The rule of thumb is patterns can't intersect across scenes, and the patterns will always loop in relation to the longest pattern in a scene. So what you need to do on the intro is have a 16 bar pattern on you drum group with only the fill on it. It might be confusing at first cause you cant drag and drop patterns where you want to like in any DAW.

Hey man, I like your Maschine videos....they are good. I cut my teeth on the MK2 and didn't start really learning Maschine until I bought my MK3...I find it easier to just use Ideas view than the workaround to stay in the arranger...it's a bit annoying. Blezz, can you do a tutorial on automation? Is there any way you can automate just one pattern? Cut and paste automation? For example, on ableton, you can automate fx on the master track which is handy when going in and out of a chorus/verse part. It's one part of Maschine I haven't got to grips with yet. I'd happily send a few quiddles your way on Patreon!

So, am I right in thinking that pinning the scene section isn't possible with the Mikro Mk3 or Komplete Kontrol Mk2 and that I'm going to have to use my mouse each time I want to change scenes?
@BlezzBeats4 жыл бұрын
I think pretty confidently and really hope you're wrong! Don't have one to try it out but it would be straight up retarded if you can't switch scenes from the controller. Anyone know this?
@JamesDavidMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha..... Bro...... It’s what the controller is for. And I’m not hating at all. I joined NI/MASCHINE family last year and it threw me off for a minute. I have the mikro so you have to use a monitor if you don’t have the full MASCHINE version of gear. Believe I got confused too but you realize “wait LMAO have to utilize the controller with movement” get that down you’re flyin boss.
