Cool thanks. You could use blendshape between the dynamic alembic and the static one with new uvs and it should work fast. I did it the last couple of days with a cloth simulation lol

Pinning this comment because it's an excellent tip :)

Could you explain a little more on this technique please, sounds like a plan to me.

@@stephenhibberd4309 You cache your simulation or whatever you are doing, export it to an alembic file. Then work on the static version of your model, do the UVs and texturing, then import the cached alembic, select it, then the one with correct UV, then create a blendshape ( Deform> Blend Shape) and move the slider up.

Awesome, I'm loving the new dynamics node in 2018. I tried this out and used a camera projection + texture reference object. I'll have to try out the blendshape idea next! Keep up the great videos :)

nice one ian. i would like to understand the connection between mash and Ncloth. thanx

I think you can do this with one click. At the end of your alembic cache select the geo and hit Rendering->Texturing->Create Texture Reference Object.

What!? I will try this when I'm back from my holidays... Thanks for the tip :)

There must be another way to do this, If I use component mode during the transfer it take 20 mins to evaluate - move forward another frame takes another 20 mins. its so painful it hurts. I did try attribute transferring to the "intermediate object" method but crashes right at the end. Ive only got a 20 core machine!

Could we have a definitive tut on this one, been trying all options but not really getting a good result.

I would have used a planar projection with the "Camera" option to create the UVs in the first place.
@ianwaters60357 жыл бұрын
THAT'S IT! I was wondering why Camera based UV projection wasn't giving me what I wanted - it's because I should have done what you suggest. Thanks for pointing that out, it was driving me crazy. I've been off the tools too long! Need to stop programming MASH and re-learn Maya ;o)

Naah! It happens all the time mate! I have been using Maya since 1998 on SGI machines, and I can 100% assure that it often happens that I get stuck thinking "Heck! What was that tool that... Hummm... Let's try... Ok, maybe if... Shit!!" :-D Nothing to -re-learn there, just get some rest! ;-D

Haha! You've hit the nail on the head. I go on holiday tomorrow! :)

Have a good one then! I wish I had some too! :D

Hmm. The problem is that if you apply a uv projection on an imported alembic cache, the animated geometry will swim through the texture. Maybe there is a fix I didnt know it?

Thank you for the great tutorial. Could you tell me please with what parameters is your PC. I am asking this question because when I use the file texture (PNG) I can not see what am I doing on the screen. Its possible to see what am I doing only when I render the frame
