1) Tobin talking about the animals is adorable. 2) when thrift storing get some old table cloths and fold them in half to protect the island and the jars from temperature shock. 3) you really do need to make a sash with badges. All I can think of now is a pink piggy face with an apple in its mouth :D 4) you can use the peels and cores to make pectin by boiling in water and straining the apple out and concentrate to make pectin if you wanted and if the piggys get tired of apple. or even use them to make apple core vinegar. (just an Idea mind). But mostly I am so happy that your mega kitchen is working out like you had dreamed.

Kune Kunes are highly trainable. I have a Kune mix pet. It will be highly worth your while to reach a few commands for those escapee moments. Yes, we were working with the two black pigs a lot. However once we put the boar in with them, the kids and I don’t go in there every day anymore. We need to get the boar moved to his own area and then we will be able to work with the other two pigs again. The boar is very friendly. It’s just that he has about 5 inch tusks on either side of his mouth. And I try to just give him a lot of room and respect. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

@@JamerrillStewart yes the tusks can be very intimidating! And lethal if used so it's good to have that healthy respect! Pigs are also k8nd of brats and will learn how to manipulate people for treats lol. You'll never have a dull day with them around, and they're a great addition to a homestead.

What a fun video. I loved hearing Tobin talking. Hint: when I am canning, I put a large cookie sheet out and set my jars on it to be filled. It's great for catching drips, setting my measuring cup or ladle on. It saves a lot of wiping up. I use my DW to rinse and heat my jars. Just gives me more counter space instead of having them setting out. I was thinking how nice the couch and chair looked and then heard a change was a'coming. LOL. I am sure it will look great. Main thing, Mega Momma needs to love it. PS: I see that you have jars on your stove grill. That will help with cleanup.

I add 1 cup white sugar,1 cup brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of Cinnamon, and a 10-pound bag or[ 2] 5-pound bags of apples using red delicious apples, I put it on high for 2 hours near bedtime and place it on low and cook overnight and in the morning I add 1 pat of butter about a tablespoon and stir then I start placing it in the jars to can and do a water bath canning with it you can let it cool some before canning it is so good. it will be a dark brown color. We're canning buddies! Yay! You're keeping me company in my kitchen while I'm making pear sauce from some of my 583 lbs (free!) pear harvest. I canned caramel pear filling yesterday, pear slices the day before, and 3 versions of pear butter before that. I see some pear cider in my future. I don't use vinegar in my canner to help with the hard water mineral deposits on the jars. I feel it rusts the rings faster. I'm trying something new this year with my jars. I stored my clean jars with a piece of press & seal and the ring. My thoughts were that it would keep them clean and spider free between uses. So far I like it. I just clean the rim of any sticky residue before putting them in the canner to warm.

You are on a roll doing all the things. I definitely recommend using the dishwasher for cleaning/warming the jars. I feel it's so much easier and hands off. It also generally uses less water than hand washing. When my mom and I do a big canning day, we just load up the dishwasher before starting to process anything and leave it on warm until we need them. You can also pull out a few jars at a time and keep the rest warm. If you are short on time, look to see if your dishwashers have a short wash cycle. Looking forward to seeing all your hard work go up on those shelves for you.

I take rings off when I put the finished jars into my pantry. However, to save space and also to protect the jars, I will add a ring to each cleaned/empty jar when I put them into the pantry and that way I don't have huge baskets full of rings taking up space. And it also helps protect my jars as well when not in use.

Hi Jamerrill, I do things a little bit different so I thought I'd share. My applesauce is made by quartering the apple and putting them in a large pot to steam in water to soften. They take about 45-60 min. I take them out with a spaghetti server and put them through my victorio strainer and the seeds and skins go out one side and the sauce comes out the other. So we both end up with the same sauce, just a different road to get there. I've done this through our 38 years of marriage. One thing about the vinegar wiping... I use vinegar only when I'm using something that has grease or fat and with applesauce, I only use water. With apple pie filling I've learned that the apples will swell so it's important to leave 1 1/2 inches head space. For future use if you do that. I do use the apple peeler, corer, slicer for apple pie filling. You're doing awesome!

I’m going to look into one of those strainers. That definitely sounds like a good way to go! And maybe that’s why I didn’t yield as much applesauce as I thought I would.

I’m loving your preservation videos! I did about 40 quarts of applesauce this year for my family of 7. We don’t eat as much of it as your family :) I quarter my apples and cook them down on the stove, pressure cooker, or slow cooker (I would LOVE a big roaster like that!) then I put them through my victorio strainer that removes the peel, seeds, and core. It would be interesting to compare this method with yours of the kitchen and attachment then blending the cooked apples. I used to have a manual slicer/corer/peeler, but I found it frustrating with less than perfect, lopsided, homegrown apples.

Excited to see what you do in the corner window now that the couch is returning to the store. Loving the canning video! All I keep thinking is “Pig Chasing and Applesauce”. Makes me laugh because it reminds me of the Brady Bunch Episode when Alice told them they were having Porkchops and Applesauce for dinner. Lol. Just a friendly trick I learned along the way. I use my Cookie Cooling Racks on old bath towels to place the finished jars on for cooling. They cool with more air circulation and the bath towels make clean up is a breeze!

You did great. Not sure how many you expected to get done but you have almost 30 you didn't have this morning!!! That has to be a good feeling! Your kids are more dependable than mine were. If they loved applesauce, as soon as I bought a lot, it wasn't something they were interested in anymore. Not just applesauce, but "favorite" snacks, cookies, etc. Thought that was pretty common with kids, so you are blessed!!!

Those big roasters are fantastic. Good job mom. I was able to buy an apple that a was very soft naturally and I didn't have to use a blender on mine. They actually broke down just by cooking them. Mother nature helps us sometimes. .I think it's amazing how you can estimate how much you will need. You need more shelves for the home canned items. You have a kitchen now with the room for you to can anything you want. Home canning saves so much money and it tastes so much better too. Your definitely a great mega mom. I love seeing what you're able to accomplish with a good sized kitchen. You thought of everything. The pig is on a run tho and real life reminds us sometimes that it's going to put an escaped pig in our way of our perfectly laid plans ROFL. Life happens mega mom. Love the water spout behind the stove. What a game changer. Love hearing Tobin helping mama. He loves mama so much and your doing a great job for all.of them. Luckily your mind tells you what needs to be done. They'll be ok. And I hope they're helping you with just regular life things like Tobin. You are truly blessed and we wish all the best for you

I don't know if anyone has told you yet or not, but you have to leave space between your jars when you take them out. You don't want to leave them touching each other. It's best to leave an inch between them. It helps in the cooling process and protects the jars themselves from weakening and lessening their lifespan. Jars will eventually crack, no need to speed up the process. Good luck on your canning adventures.
