Those big plates Amelia picked out are called chargers and they go under your regular plates on your table to make a nice pop of color and raise your plate off the table and make a catch all under the plate, rather than your tablecloth. My grandma had gold and silver colored ones she used.

I pack a lot of boxes for OCC every year. This year I did 190 and that’s the most I’ve done. I recommend removing packaging as other countries do not have means to discard the trash. Also a water bottle or cups are great to include. Just a few tips. Thank you for packing for children and for taking your “friends” and special mamas under your wing this holiday season. I am so glad you showed the packaging of the Operation Shoebox. Never thought of sunglasses 🤦‍♀️ That was a great idea. Loved the little chalkboard and chalk idea also. I will have to try and remember those for next year. We did include chapstick in ours. 😬 I don't remember seeing it on the "don't" list. It's wonderful you did so many. We did 2, (one boy, one girl) for the older kids. I always feel everyone gets stuff for the younger kids. Bless you guys for your generosity

You know I think they update the list every year. I never remember seeing sunglasses as a suggestion before and I’m really glad I saw that this year. I don’t remember the shoes either, but it can be very overwhelming trying to get the right things for the boxes. I believe they peek through each box to make sure nothing will get held up in customs. It’s a wonderful program!

They might get checked at several points to make sure nothing on the “don’t” list are included. At our church the person coordinating and taking things to the drop point gets a small group to help him go through goes through every box to check for exclusion items and to see how many have been paid for tracking online so the funds donated to the church can be spent on covering the shipping on the rest then used to purchase online boxes. I assume they check them again at the drop point.

The boxes get checked for things that cant go in distribution centers! anything that isn't allowed gets pulled out and those items get donated to other places! I volunteered once and it was such an amazing experience!

I think y'all did a wonderful job of picking out fun and useful items for the shoeboxes!! I especially loved the cute stuffies and fluffy socks! We also packed some of those chalkboards this year ☺️. I pray the children that receive the boxes will not only feel loved, but also their hearts might be open to hear the gospel message presented along with the shoebox distribution.

We do the Christmas child boxes at our Church. We start in January taking donations and then in Nov we have a big packing party. We have a lot of fun packing and working on the shoe boxes. You are really teachings your kids the love of sharing with others. God bless you for all you do. Especially being able to help other families out at Christmas or when needed.

Our sm. church of 50 ppl actually collected and donated 500 boxes last yr. for the children's boxes. We have a" stuffing the boxes" day and the kids loved it! Such a worthwhile project!

This year I did 5 older female and 5 older male OCC boxes. This year I focused on hygiene, socks and underwear (hard to do because of sizing), hair accessories, craft kits, and my “wow” items for the girls were sewing kits and material. I included Barbie dolls so maybe they could make clothing for them? I definitely overthink the process and I make several calls to Boone NC because I wonder if each year the most needed age box varies? This year they asked me to volunteer next year as I only live 1.5 hours from their headquarters. Maybe I call too much ! 🤣 There is a large retirement community in our area and a woman does 250 boxes each year. Volunteers load her boxes up and drop them off for her. Such a blessing! I have already begun to collect for next year, thematically by age and item. I love that this YT and IG community are involved in OCC. Yes! Always put Jet Dry in your dishwasher! It helps it clean the dishes, keep them spot free while they dry and helps them dry faster.. I always know when I need to top up mine because they dishes are still wet even though the dishwasher says that the drying cycle is done.

Those pillows from Costco are beautiful and a great deal too! Those new mugs are adorable! The gingerbread man mug is so precious! The nativity snow globe is absolutely gorgeous! ❤️ I also hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Those puzzle mats are fantastic! My sister has several of them because her and her grandchildren love doing puzzles together! My son and I went shopping today at the dollar general to get some toilet paper and of course I had to check out the Christmas stuff! I thought of you because they had the gingerbread house decorating kit but what made me think of you was they had an entire gingerbread village decorating kit! It was so awesome and a great idea for large families!
