Olympic Swimmer Dylan Carter from Trinidad and Tobago shows you how to improve the breathing in the Butterly stroke. The hardest part is getting the breathing down. Otherwise, it can affect you in the last meters of the race as you don't get enough oxygen, and your legs and arms start to burn. So it's really important that you get that oxygen and that quick breath with enough air to finish your race!
Three things to remember:
1) Keep chin and lips low to the water
2) Breath in the middle of the stroke
3) The breath shouldn't use a lot of energy

Butterfly is the bane of my existence. It's not even the breathing that's hard, it's just timing butterfly. there are so many things you need to keep in mind while doing butterfly.

You talked about taking in the breath, but when should one start releasing the breath underwater? How should one's head be position at the start of the release? I think that would have been more helpful as well.

I had the exact same question. Anyone have experience swimming this stroke? When the heck do I exhale? I’ve been doing undulatory swimming on my own before coming to KZbin to learn it properly, and I’d just been relying on holding my breath for increasingly longer times. This trains my body to produce more red blood cells & hemoglobin which allows my blood to have a higher oxygen load than people who don’t do this type of training. I wish I knew more about how pro swimmers do their breathing since this seems much easier lulz.

Oh I thought breathing is not the most difficult thing butterfly. My concern is always pull, because if my pull is weak, my body won't be lifted high enough to do breathing as well as arm recovery.

hard to be an “expert” but if you want to be decent then you should cross train basically jog as well and do some exercises outside of the pool but also while in the pool you could do some interval training or aerobic swim sets short sprints and slow longer swims in the pool

also technique is very important (if you aren’t exhaling under the water and holding your breath then you are gonna be tired)
@billybob6604
@billybob6604 4 жыл бұрын
to develop technique you could do a lot of freestyle drills and also buy some swim equipment like fins, snorkel, pull buoys, pull paddles, and a kickboard
@billybob6604
@billybob6604 4 жыл бұрын
and you could learn different strokes to activate your muscles (I recommend choosing between breaststroke or backstroke because fly is advanced)

guys please dont do this, what you really want to do is use the strength of the neck to push forward while also using for breathing. don't look down when you breath
@SkiddlesGamez
@SkiddlesGamez 2 жыл бұрын
If you use the strength of the neck to push forward, you're going to lose that neutral spine and your face will now act as resistance against the water. As long as you keep your head neutral, it will be high enough to get oxygen during your stroke.
