Excellent instructions when combined with the fabric calculator. All the supplies I used were from SailRite except the fabric and basting tape. I would recommend using the Sailrite basting tape as the Joanne's version was ineffective on upholstery fabric (in fact I'm ordering some from Sailrite for future use now). But there is no way this is a 30-minute cushion. The sewing may take 30-minutes once you've cut the fabric to fit. I made cushions for a re-upholstered couch which came out beautifully. It was a two day project.

So glad you cushions came out great! True, we do sell the best seamstick basting tape on the market for upholstery applications. After making a few you may find it only takes about 30 minutes each. I can do it in about that much time, but I have made close to 25 myself. Thanks for your kind comments!!!!

thank you! Just what I need it! My cushion cover is a teensy bit loose, but I'll use some batting.

I'm glad the video was helpful to you! Using batting is a great idea to fix a loose cushion cover.

thanks for the instructions, i've followed this method with the earlier video of the 30minute box cushions and I have ended up with a loose cushion cover, how do we adjust it so that it's a tighter fit. Maybe a followup video on how to fix issues?

I would take out the foam and add polyester batting. I hope that helps. If you follow our Sailrite Fabric Calculator the cover should be very very tight.

Great video! I made a new bench cushion for a swing. Gets a little tricky with 1 1/2 and 2” cushions. Corner’s and Zippers get really tight considering you’re only taking .8x.9 out of the corner. Tips would be appreciated

This process can only be done if sewing cushions that are 2 inches thick or more. Anything under 2 inches in thickness does not work well using this technique. I would sew a traditional box cushion if you want a thin cushion like that. Or the "Quick & Easy Box Cushion"

Thanks for this video! I can see you streamlined some things from the previous version. The Fabric Calculator mentions Cushion Wrap Silk Film, but you didn't use it this time. Does it offer any weatherproofing? Or was it just a tool to get the cushion into the cover?

Hi. How do you convert the decimals to fractions, please. Thank you.

Can you use a zipper with the pull attached? I don't like the idea of fiddling with the tab later.
@SailriteDIY Жыл бұрын
Yes, you would just have to work the sewing machine presser foot around the slider when you sew the zipper onto the decorative fabric. I often sew up to the slider, then bury the needle, lift the foot and pull the slider past the foot. Then lower the foot and continue to sew.

I tried the double sided tape which did not stick to my outdoor fabric. I feel that water resistant outdoor fabric has a coating that the tape wouldn’t adhere to.
@SailriteDIY7 ай бұрын
Did you buy the Seamstick Double Sided tape 1/4 inch from Sailrite? It sticks better than any other brand. Also, you are correct a fabric that is water and stain resistant is often very adhesive resistant as well, but our seamstick should work especially if you press it down well with the Sailrite Canvas Patterning Ruler.

Seam tape sounds like a good idea but gummed up my needle and thread and almost ruined my project.
@SailriteDIY7 ай бұрын
Did you order it from Sailrite and was it the 1/4 inch size? When making cushions you must use the smaller width seamstick of 1/4 inch, it is best for cushion, if you use the wider seamstick then you will sew through the tape and it will be seen once the cushion is turned right-side out. The only area where you sew through the seamstick is the zipper. Using basting tape (Seamstick) for canvas on a very light weight fabric may gum up the needle rather quickly because the lighter fabric does not have the larger fibers or weave to help clean the needle as it exits the fabric. In those situations it may best to use pins to hold the fabric in place as you sew. A gummed up needle and parts can be cleaned off with some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball or Goo Gone (we do not sell this).
