I'm in the market for an older inboard ski boat, and know they'll all have weathered swim platforms, so I enjoyed this video. You know what you're doing, and the end result was great, IMO.

My only suggestion would be to finish the bottom first and then the top to avoid unnecessary scratches. Looks great!

that thing looked ROUGH when you started, now it's new again. That will be the best looking part of his boat now, not the oldest.

Question: So if you sand it down and get all the weathered surface off you really don’t need to use the three step cleaner, brighter then oil? Just oil only.

Thanks for the tip

Agreed, I bought the 3 part (cleaner, brighter, and oil) and only sanded a little bit. After two coats of oil, looked great but went gray pretty quick. Before our season starts, I will just sand and then oil. Thanks for the video.

Do you have any pictures of it back on the boat and/or how it held up? I used the same product on my teak adirondack chairs and noticed that it was more thick and stickier than I would have liked the oil to be. In between coats did you sand it? I am wondering if I should because I would really rather less of a shine and a softer more wood feel like teak wood actually is. Did it seem more like a varnish to you?

As far as it holding up time will tell. I will do an update video at mid or end of summer to see how well it held up. On outdoor furniture I'm not sure I wouldn't just use a Thompson's water seal product vs. the teak oil in the future

How many hours did you spend on it? I have a client asking me to do.this to his boats platform.
@Michaelsbackyardmarina3 жыл бұрын
you will spend a minimum of 8 hours time easily not counting drying time.

Looks amazing!!! Was wondering why you didn't shoot some black paint on the brackets before reattaching them? Not trying to be negative at all.

I was going to, I figured I would see this platform again at the end of the summer and then I would touch up the mounts.

I found great plans on the Stodoys website. I think this is a good solution for everyone.

I think you could have saved yourself some sanding had you used a cleaner & brightener as well. I'm still in the research phase (seeing how others are doing it). It looks great, & you did a good thorough job!

On ALL these "informational" utube videos, I can easily do WITHOUT the "music", actually. When I'm trying to assimilate knowledge, background music is just noise that detracts from concentration on the information being presented. So, for me, skip the music, and just give me the information, thanks. When it's time to boogy, let the music roll. When it's time to LEARN SOMETHING, skip the music.
