Should You REALLY Carry a Gun with a "Round in the Chamber?" kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2O9fKSNlMeiodU

Im not new to carrying, im 4 days into my conceal carrying. The one thing i worey about is printing because as an open carrier, i never had to worry about it. I was open carrying, so everyone knew lol. Im sure over time itll be easier. One of my female friends who conceals said to me "dont got your gun toda....... WAIT, DID YOUR PERMIT COME IN?" yesterday, and i advised her "yep, im legally concealing" she couldnt tell and she knows i carry, so that was a bit of a confidence booster.

I’m new to carrying my firearm. I have found that carrying it just around my house and property to get used to having on my person and get comfortable with it. My wife and daughter never noticed I had it on. Then start to venture out a bit a little at a time.

I was one of the first issued by a judge with the accompanying court order. When I first started carrying I didn't have a round in the chamber. I wanted to make sure the retention of my holster was adjusted properly and my gun would not work its way out during everyday movements. I grew up around guns and was taught at a very early age how to shoot and be safe by a military father who was also a gun enthusiast. I now carry a Glock 30, but had it setup mainly for range use before I acquired that NJ Unicorn PTC. I removed the lighter springs and ghost trigger connector. I felt going back to stock configuration was safest. Carry was very new to me living in NJ. I needed to build my confidence level as well, my biggest fear was to have a ND due to something I did wrong. After a few weeks experimenting with two different holsters and carry positions, I felt comfortable enough to start to carry with one in the chamber. I still remember that first day. I agree it becomes second nature the more you carry, except for getting in and out of small cars or the occasional holster bump in tight quarters, I mostly don't even think about having it on me now.

I'd like to add some support here. I was very nervous carrying in public for the first time. A police officer walked into the store that I was in.... My heart went into my throat for a minute. I was able to regain myself quickly. It helps very much to have a LOT of experience with your firearm. I have over 23 years of experience with my pistol. You will grow in confidence the more you practice safe handling and shooting at the range. Also, please learn all of the laws. This is extremely important for you. I'm glad we New Jerseyans finally get a chance to carry.

I feel ya. I always feel awkward when I am close proximity to a cop. One things I noticed though, most aren’t looking for firearms unless you’ve done something to make them look. So as you said just proceed as normal.

One thing to tell yourself if you're new to carrying and you're nervous that you may be printing or something like that but in all reality most people are too preoccupied with their phones to notice.

Great video.. When I first conceal carried I was very nervous. But as time went on I felt less nervous. Now i feel completely comfortable carrying all the time.

Start by carrying in your house. Dress the same way you would when you go out. Dont just put the gun in your waist and walk around your house, practice your draw. Please make sure you dont have a round in the chamber. Avoid any accident... thank you for videos.

I've been carrying for 15yrs.. And remember all of the feelings. The thing that help my confidence was training. And you are right about the proper holster makes a world of difference. And now it's like my wallet, it's always on me.

Carrying in places that allow open and conceal carry where open carry is somewhat common like in WV got me more comfortable carrying because I wasn't nervous about anyone seeing. I wasn't worried I'd get fined, or arrested, or whatever if someone saw.

I was born in Brooklyn, NY, been in NJ for the last 8 years. Got my carry permit this past July. Being from NY where historically NO ONE but police and criminals carried gun, it just feels like I’m doing something wrong. I find that I’m constantly touching my shirt, looking down so see if I’m printing, and adjusting my firearm every 15 minutes. I feel like police are still of the mindset that anyone not in uniform with a firearm is a criminal and a threat so when I see a police office I feel like a criminal.
@ICS1347 Жыл бұрын
Try to get that feeling out of your head. Their are a lot of Police officers that are very supportive of citizens carrying. Concentrate on safety always and abide by the laws. As a contractor I won’t carry into a customers home or business unless I know they won’t mind. I bought a console safe for my truck and unload my firearm and lock it in the safe while working.

I actually feel like i forgot something very important when not carrying. The beach is a new place we cannot carry as well as going out to dinner. Crazy laws.

Although the laws here in South Carolina are somewhat different than New Jersey, I appreciated what you had to say, about getting used to concealed, carry. My Step Son is a State Trooper in Connecticut, and I have been following HIS guidance as well. I appreciate the fact, that there are Peace Officers out there like yourself, who are trying to help the rest of us out. Thank you.

As always a great update video I myself would really appreciate it if you could put up an occasional video as to keep me ( us) on top of where we can legally carry

Great video. I encounter the same issues when advising my non LE friends. Unlike us, who will react based on our decades of training, experience and hyper situational awareness, I preach the last resort scenario. Defend from cover and concealment, and know the difference. Train, train and train. Only time will male them comfortable. And the truth is that a majority of these first time carriers will not carry all that often when the rush wears off. Like you its all second nature to me after all these years. Would love to know if the 3rd Circuit has put that LEOSA issue to bed yet?????

Great video. An additional topic of nervousness for people is the interaction with law enforcement...especially since not every officer is on the same page as far as knowing all the current laws that apply to the conceal carry permit holder! This is definitely a major concern. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Great video. I own and use my guns for 40 years and always felt conferrable. The first time carrying was not so bad until 4 police cars drove by I guess looking for somebody. It made me feel the same when I started driving and a cop got behind me. In my head was "oh crap". Laughed about it when I got home.

I had carried many times in the past. Now I can carried again and it feels good 👍. But on to my job in PA. The company will not allow it on the property. But it feels good 😊

I think a lot of people are scared of striker fired handguns because all you need to do is pull the trigger and it fires. Nobody wants to shoot themselves by accident. They dont understand the safeties built into the firearm. Maybe these people should select a handgun with a manual safety to help ease their fears. They just need to be proficient with it, you dont want to squeeze the trigger and it dont shoot because you forgot to take the safety off.

I enjoy carrying 100% it’s the NJ laws that worries me 😊
@somedayzo6 Жыл бұрын
The fact that we constantly have to load and unload our firearms because of NJ’s absurd laws is going to cause problems. There will eventually be a Karen who sees one of us loading or unloading in a parking lot and call the police. Of course this is exactly what NJ wants to have happen so they can create reasons why we should not be allowed to carry.
@gladius2489 Жыл бұрын
Waiting for my application to be approved. I don’t think I’ll feel uncomfortable carrying from a psychological standpoint. more a matter of finding the most comfortable carry position. Do you prefer IWB or OWB?
@selsp97 Жыл бұрын
I would practice carry at home to see how your shirts and sweaters lift up to show what you have. That way, you can buy bigger or looser clothing as needed.

You made a comment @5:38 in your video about requalifying in 2 years for recertification. I thought only retired police had to requalify. When i met with my local police chief he did not mention requalifiying every 2 years. So, what is the requirement? Do I have to requalify with an instructor at the range every 2 years?
@martelltraininggroup Жыл бұрын
Yes. To renew your permit to carry in NJ, you must qualify once every two years. The entire process is the same every two years.
@edc3093 Жыл бұрын
@martelltraininggroup Thank you for responding. I guess my instructor will have a lot of repeat business. Other than qualification, what else should I expect, i.e., fingerprints, mental health review, 4 references, photos?

If your instincts say not to carry right now, don't. You could start off carrying daily at home. Keeping a loaded gun inside the home accessible only to who can legally access it. Get used to that. Then you can carry outside when you go where you least expect trouble to occur. If unloaded, make sure you keep ammunition with you. Know the laws so you can stay one step ahead of anti gunners and law enforcement . Get liability insurance, several concealed carry classes, and more gun classes if you can afford. Get less/ non lethal alternatives and training on their use. If you have a car, get a low cost keyed or combo teathered lockbox for it. If you are afraid of gun going off, get a hammer fired gun if you can afford another gun. Carry that

I enjoy your channel it like looking in the mirror for me. All good advice. I remember the first time I had a half a dozen police cars behind me lights and sirens my Adrenaline pumping I forgot I was a police officer in a marked car. Joking aside a few recommendations and comments. The more you carry the more you will relax. It's a firearm not a hand grenade without the pin. Get training and keep training its perishable. I have been around firearms for over 46 years and I am running out of ex special forces and SWAT guys that can make me nervous during training. I wear a Apple watch and if the pulse alarm does not go off its time to try something else. If its feeling like the police are looking at you its something we wont admit but everyone profiles its not a race based thing but if you look like a gangster traveling in a pack the police probably are looking at you. Police are humans even if they don't always act like it. Be respectful. Put yourself in someone else shoes whether its around a civilian or police officer. How you conduct yourself is a big part of CC. Everyone is worried about printing and sometimes it happens. My cell phone prints more than my EDC, never once did I have a police officer ask me if I am carrying due to printing but you should try to avoid it. My biggest issue is people who don't train and all the sensitive spots for those with CCWs. It's absolutely ridiculous that someone who goes through the CCW permit process is qualified and trains is restricted from most places where a high probability of danger exists. And NJ hollow tip ban for carry is even more moronic.

I would love to see how you handle storing you firearm in your car if you can't carry where your going. Is your safe under the front seat or the back? I worry about someone seeing me unloading and calling the police.
@martelltraininggroup Жыл бұрын
Here's a video about storing your gun in your vehicle. I agree. The idea of someone seeing you unloading/loading has been a concern of many people. Do you need a license to carry in NJ in order to take your firearm to a shooting range, or only the FPIC is needed
@lyfandeth Жыл бұрын
Carrying a hammerless (internal hammer) DA/SA gun instead of the more common SA striker fired guns might be an extra measure of comfort, when there's a live round in the chamber. No?

Question, if you’re stopped by the police and they ask for your gun, are you required to turn it over to them?
@martelltraininggroup Жыл бұрын
If just stopped (for a motor vehicle violation, for example), they shouldn't be asking for it -of course you need to disclose you are carrying it according to the new law. However, if you are detained as part of a criminal investigation, you have to provide it when requested. See below: "A holder of a permit to carry a handgun issued pursuant to N.J.S.2C:58-4 who is carrying a handgun in public and is detained by a law enforcement officer as part of a criminal investigation shall provide the handgun to the law enforcement officer upon request for purposes of inspecting the handgun." But, keep in mind as more people are carrying, there will be a learning curve for some officers (especially new ones) so it could happen.
@TonoHD Жыл бұрын
@@martelltraininggroup You answered my question perfectly. I was watching a video where the officer stopped a car for a MV violation and ask the driver if he had any weapons in the car, the driver said yes, explained he held a CWP, the officer demanded that the driver turn over the firearm. I was wondering if the officer over stepped?

I thought as long it is on you and you are in the vehicle, it can be loaded. Otherwise, it needs to be unloaded. But I'm not sure. It would be great if he could provide some clarification.

From all the videos I've watched, here's my conclusion. Just about anyone can conceal a firearm when wearing a shirt that fits like a feed sack. I'm not into the "homeless toddler" look, so I need to really make an effort in concealing my pistol.
