I think the off-season prep talk vs in-season training is a very important dialog to be had! Also believe information about active recovery after comp, deload prior to comp and nutrition leading into/during/post comp would be great for everyone out there.

Thx for the great content Mitch! Everyone has different leverage points and natural abilities and thus different techniques are needed. (I know you know this!) Personally, I like to execute my DL as a Hip dominate Legpress. I do not think about "Lifting" the wgt. I fully commit to bracing hard, preloading the bar and then Thinking and visualizing my Legpress and simply "Pushing the World away" from me. The hips stay down (they don't shoot up) and the Back naturally takes care of itself. This has been one of the single biggest improvements to strength and efficiency to my technique. Not to mention, less low back stress and fatigue. Which means a quicker recovery. Especially, when I am predominately Low bar squatting as a Powerlifter... Mitch, I would Love for you to leave No stones unturned by teaching the younger lifters that "Less IS More"! Progression is made in small calculated bites over time. Younger or Less accomplished Lifters need to focus on what you "did" to get where you are. NOT so much what you are doing now that you've arrived! just my 2c Thx!

You are so right Mitch about the environment. It is easy for veterans' to not notice or not be worried about all the volume but the newbies are really afraid of this environment. Make it easy for the newbies so they stick with it, as it is so much harder for them just to even be there..Veteran's (real veterans) should know better...

Would be interesting to hear about use of PEDs in the no stone unturned series, from the outside looking in it seems to be an avoided conversation in strongman. Would also love to hear your outlook of PEDs in a sport such as Crossfit

Doesn’t make commercial sense for him to ever speak about that openly. There is absolutely no upside and many many potential downsides for his sponsors etc. Plus he’s trying to promote a healthy lifestyle, so giving any information about PEDs for sure would encourage some of his fans to dive in.

Have you ever tried adding heavy kettlebell swings into your lower body/posterior chain routine to help with deadlifts? Granted, you'll get nowhere near the weight in relation to what you were doing on the back extensions - but in terms of building muscle endurance and adding some explosion under tension for when you are deadlifting for weight it could be very helpful. With proper technique you're getting your lower back, hamstrings and glutes involved - over, and over, and over, and over again. Also great for overall endurance/fitness - you've spoken often about the need for good endurance levels to give benefit to all aspects of your training and performance in strength. Endurance training under load with kettlebells would blast your cardio levels through the roof.

30s????? I am in my 60s, and still make progress. 2024 the year of my heaviest Bench Press ever, at least 225, but really shooting for 240. Too many videos making like it is all over once you hit 40. I was at my best shape at 40, but stronger in some lifts now.

@@stevelee3144 Steve, right?! My comment to CBM is I am in my 60s still, gaining. KZbin is full of crap videos making it seem one must TRT to make gains after 30s. 2024 I will be 62 (Jan 7) Shooting for lifetime all out bench of 240. I have had the bad luck of some form of accident taking me out, but 2024 is looking good. Joined a good gym, so going to make it happen. As a side note, there was the video a few years ago showing some young guys in their 20s, with lower testosterone than men in their 80s. Never got my T tested but, if I train, eat and sleep I make gains. Keep cranking it! - Cheers

I think some SLDLs or Good mornings, just 1-4 weekly sets, bodybuilding style, stretching the living crap out of your hammies, especially offseason, but I'd keep one set a week all year aound cause they're just great at strengthening the connective tissues, maybe along with nordics. also helped me to keep my back straight on deadlifts and squats, but over everything I'd say those extreme stretch hip hinges are somewhat of a insurance to be less likely to tear a hamstring

Mitch, even if you start with your hips lower, (and you can get away with this on lighter weights) your hips still shoot up at the start of the pull. Keep your hips higher and think about pushing the floor down while keeping your shoulders over the bar and keep your back flat. Trust me.

As a 3 time microdiscectomy patient, I never got hurt by deadlifts, but it's helped my back so much to get back to normal. No max lifts, no lifting to actual failure, but lots of rep work with serious effort. Seems pretty safe, but I'm treating it as a technique exercise, it's not about hitting a certain goal at all cost. Once it feels like the next rep is gonna be sketchy, the set is over. Good reps only, and strength is still increasing without going all in.

I've had a compound fracture @T-10. (Ladder accident) and have still set State records in the Deadlift. WTS, I can absolutely say that I feel better and maintain better mobility with less inflammation, pain, etc... while DL'ing consistently. ***HOWEVER! One MUST absolutely commit to learning how to brace properly and hone proper technique. Most gym rats have HORRIBLE technique and a horrible understanding of the lift or elementary bracing technique and always get hurt haphazardly lifting with their backs, while the bar is TOO far out in front, etc... So, if you are ready to commit to actually learn the lift and vital components that lend to safety and efficiency, you'll do fine and IMHO, be far better for it. Good Luck!
