if you are going to do a gear box service on this automatic i recon mend using and booking in a place who does boxes as these types off boxes are delicate and need to be done right other wise can be very pricey there’s a place in liverpool which is very good with boxes highly recommended pick up or deliver your self

Go for the yellow that only the black series press car was painted in. Also that gear box is very slow I agree mine changes alot faster , once you service it and get it mapped [ you will have to with the headers ] the gear box update will soon sort that out

I had my fingers crossed the re-sealing of the oil pan worked as I saw a glob of oil sneak onto the mating surface just as you offered up the sump.

Yes I thought that drip would cause a leak. I would have cleaned both surfaces with brake cleaner prior to resealing!!

Colour wise: 100% Solar Beam yellow!! Gearbox: The 7G-tronics are not the quickest however when I had my 507 i took it to my local MB dealer who flashed the latest software on to it whilst they changed the gearbox oil. It sharpened up the shifts a little and made it less jittery when sitting in stop/start traffic. It also added a few quirks like pressing and holding the left paddle made it shift down a few gears so it would be revving at 4.5k (essentially ready to go for when you wanted to accelerate) quickly tapping the accelerator pedal twice also made it do this - it may always have done it but I never tried it beforehand so assume the new software did that. The only downside I found was that it made the burbles/crackles/pops/bangs etc. quieter both on the overrun, downshifting and on cold starts.

I might well be wrong Matt but I've never seen anyone else comment about it so it seems I'm, for sure, in a very small minority - if not possibly the only one - that notices things like the Bach Cello Suite at about 6 minutes and that fantastic, flaring brass at about 16.10 which I don't recognise but would be interested in discovering 🙂 It hits exactly the right triumphal notes (no pun intended) to match the mood of having finally conquered the gremlins - you (or dare I say it someone on your team) has EXTREMELY sophisticated tastes and again, demonstrates your attention to detail. The rap - and in fact a whole variety of other genres of music, while I know less about those than I do the classical - is all immensely well chosen and does exactly what it's meant to: heighten the suspense, disappointment,the drama, pathos, victory - whatever atmosphere the moment creates, the music amplifies it! You're destined for great things as, despite the apparent under appreciation for that aspect of your productions, it has not been lost on at least one of your audience members😏

Gearbox can actually be tuned for faster shifts. There's a kit from Weistec to replace the internals and change the clutches to allow shifts almost as fast as current DSG boxes. Kinda expensive though as a kit!

I noticed there was still oil dripping onto the mating surface when you closed up the oil pan. You really need to wipe around the inside of the sump then clean the mating surfaces with break cleaner and use a continuous bead of sealant. I think you are still going to get leaks from that oil pan. Great video though, that car is an absolute monster, so loud.

I have a 2012 C63... I can tell you from experience, you're gonna love it when it's finished! That up shift did seem a bit sluggish, but the down shift sounded ok (compared to mine at least), maybe just a bit of TLC needed on the gearbox? Were you running it in comfort, sport, sport+ or manual? It's hard to say 100% as I'm no expert, but in my experience I do feel a difference in shift speeds in different modes. As for colour... I feel like yellow would be a bit too obvious/cliche given that was the black series launch colour. Maybe a dark metallic green or blue?

Long tube headers always make a drastic change. When you put on a sealant gasket you should wait overnight for the drip to stop. Then when you put on the bead use gloves and make sure the whole surface has the sealant especially around the bolts whilst not overdoing it. Hopefully it hold though. As for color just stick with black.

This seems to be a common story with AMG’s. 1 defo forward and 2 steps back. Sounds immense, and will look immense when painted and wheels on etc. I would say go for a Renault Colour, Liquid Yellow. It’s the nicest yellow when seen in the flesh, and an outlandish colour on that car seems to just work. 🙌🏼

The car is beautiful (outside), the engine is beautiful and inside all the AMG parts are awesome. I hope that you will never have an other issue on this wonderful car. For the color, i like BLACK but i also like BRONZE MATT. I have seen some videos from MONACO with an AMG C63 color BRONZE and it is high class and sport (all in one). In addition with a Bronze Mercedes you can add (by covering) a carbon fiber look and it is wonderful. Good luck MAT. Congratulations for all you great work.

Hi Matt, the gearboxes are very slow at changing gears but I am sure there is a way to reset them as they self learn your driving style too so it would be worth doing that so it gets used to you (the new owners) driving style. Lee Lockwood did a video on this I believe

From my experience (and many people) good RTV sealant is Reinzosil, it can seal literally everything. Also recommended to sand little bit (and clean of course) surfaces before using rtv sealant.

A tip to fit those annoying sumps perfect first time is to get some studs the same size as the original bolts and that way its doesn't slide about = you can line it first time every time - mine hasn't leaked since!

C63 AMG my fave car of all time, sounds & looks awesome. Loctite SI 5980 the best sealant ever made mat. Never let me down in many years of use.

Great video series Mat. I have a Merc, sadly not a C63 and although I've been working on my own cars for over 50 years I've learned a lot from watching you. I'm not saying you've caused it but one point which may have led to the power steering leak is the use of a power tool or ratchet to over tighten the bolt clamping the two power steering lines. I'd check the build spec and use a torque wrench on critical items particularly whenever bolts screw into aluminium.

I haven't seen how much Mat has spent on this yet, but it has to WAY exceed the actual value of the car. 10:28 there is literally something dripping while you are mounting the lower pan. You can also see a drip on the contact surface exactly before mounting it…

Need to make sure the collar on the helicoil tool is right up behind the insert to keep pressure on the insert as you screw it in, It will stop the insert jumping threads whilst installing and much easier to start the winding in process.

I had a C350 CDI W204 for 6 years. Assuming it uses a similar gearbox as that then what you are experiencing is pretty similar to how the gearbox just is. It's slow to change gear on the paddles, slow to kickdown at times and it judder when you are sat just between gears at low speed (between 2nd and 3rd at about 25-35 mph). I loved the car but the gearbox was trash. Just picked up a F10 M5 with a DCT and it's night and day! Love the videos, keep up the good work!

I believe when you get a stage 1 remap they flash the gearbox at the same time. Mine for sure doesn't lag as much as it use to, still not as crisp as an DCT or PDK

Who would have thought that the first head gasket test would be a false positive. Such a clear head to think to test on another car - well done that man! My only advice is not to use standard tap water on such a lovely engine - only use ionised water to prevent internal engine corrosion...

Oil was still leaking out the bottom of the engine straight on to where the sealant is, so not sure that’s gonna last again, if you have to do it again take off the bottom pan and leave it overnight and use a bit of whit spirit round the edge of the bottom pan before you bead it with sealant and then clean the under side edge with white spirit as well before replacing the pan. Getting oil on the seal is a no no

My Dad drove in a lift club to work. The one guy used to service his car every 10 000km and the other guy used to take his used oil and put it in his own car. Never had an issue with his car. I wouldnt advise it, but no issue re using that oil as long as it drained into a clean container.

Hey Mat - For colour you could go Obsidian Black with Gray details - like the nostrils on the helm and bumper lips front and back. My 507 edition are vice versa of my suggestion to you - Origial Designo Matte Gray with Gloss Black details and its a pain to repair if it gets damaged/scratched since the matte paint cannot really be polished or anything - the car looks awesome with the matte finish but the repair struggles is nice to know before hand :) i didnt before it was too late

Do this to reset gearbox. Works well on my Merc. Turn the Key to the "on" position (the position right before you start your engine) Press and hold your gas pedal down for like 5 seconds Turn Key to "off" position (dont remove the key) and then release the gas pedal. than wait at least 2, if not 3 minutes, for the system to reset.

One could get a piece of gasket making material at any parts store, press the pan o to it, giving an outline and cut an actual seal/gasket to seal that pan. And you can get any type of material, even with metal mesh in it if needed. Might be a better idea than the tube.
