And, as is this case, and many other times, she simply looks for the laughs, and "aren't I clever" moments, instead of trying to match the contestants. I think the producers wanted/allowed this, particularly for this seat, as it added something additional to the show, (spontaneity perhaps?) but didn't help it along, per se. As in this case, it's too bad, the guy should have won the game. Even George Kennedy got it right!! Seat six celebs were noted for this, with the probable exception of Betty White. How Patti Deutsch missed "meat grinder" is beyond me, unless you factor in my observations just stated. Yet she matched two in a row prior to this, "bowling"(the consensus right answer) and "sits". But this was an aberration to her usual form.
@davidjones96612 жыл бұрын
And before I hear it from the Match Game hordes, I must say that George Kennedy actually did quite well with his answers, except for that one bomb "dancing". See my comment above. I stand corrected!!

H/H match update: ... Today's action: The challenger wins today, sending our champion home with $800 after two games. Today's audience match question: "Brand _________ " (My thoughts: New, X, Name) The celebs: George (X), Charles (New), and Richard (Name) The choice: New The answers: New, X, Name (Another easy question since the celebs got all the answers, and so did I!) The selection of the celebrity for the H/H has become more exciting for me than seeing if they end up matching or not! Although she saved Richard for last when it came to the suggestions, I have a feeling she's going to pick him for the head-to-head. If not Richard, then I think George is more likely than Charles... She picks Richard. He has now been chosen for 19 of the 21 most recent head-to-heads, and he matched nine of those times so far (not counting a possible match today, as I don't know the result yet). But he has missed the past four times in a row, so he's on a rare cold streak. Reviewing some of his past losing streaks, he's missed 4 in a row a few times (most recently in episodes 703-706), and 5 in a row in episodes 539-543. His worst streak in recent memory was six misses in a row in episode 502-507. And of course, it took nine tries for Richard to score his very first H/H match (in episode 58). Today's H/H question: "_______ Polo" (Oh for goodness' sake! It was just a couple days ago that Richard was arguing to the judge that "water polo" should match "Marco Polo" (the regular game question involved Jonah playing a game in a whale, if I recall correctly). Richard was obviously either wrong or simply joking around, as the swimming pool game "Marco Polo" is nothing like water polo. --- At any rate, I imagine that both the contestant and Richard are going to say either Marco or water. I'll say Marco, since Richard just used that for an answer in that recent question.) The contestant has that contented smile of a woman who's made up her mind and likes her answer. Richard writes quickly, and since the two answers are of equal length, I didn't gather any clues from watching him write. Richard makes his habitual glance to the sixth seat as he files his card. The champion confidently answers "Marco." Well, she matches me, and the audience also seems to be happy with her answer. But of course, it's up to Richard now. (I'd bet he matches today.) Yes, he does! Richard scores his 178th H/H match today. Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.4% (11 wins in 21 attempts). Charles - 51.0% (27 wins in 53 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.4% (24 wins in 58 attempts). Richard - 40.9% (178 wins in 435 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 742, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

At 2:15 Gene hits the poor guy five times, and the contestant shoots him a look like "If you hit me one more time...I'm gonna PUNCH YOU!" I like the way the guy then rubs his shoulder, as he departs the show, as if to say, "My lawyer will be calling you soon, Gene...". Rayburn was a real jerk on so many dfferent levels, as exampled above, his insecurities ("I'm the star, it's my show") and his skeevy, lecherous kissing. He"d be ME TOOed out of existence had he tried half of his shenanigans today. And don't get me started on Bret Sommers, she was a dopey blabber mouth, who should have occupied the sixth seat...But I guess she helped play the unwitting straight person to Charles's witty humor. Still a great show.

David Jones You do all this complaining, and yet, you still watch the show, or these videos? People in the 70’s weren’t snowflakes, like they are today. Whether you like the people on this show or not, you saw talent on every level, and their talent allowed them to be entertaining, allowed them to be able to talk about things other than politics. Gene wasn’t a jerk in my eyes, but Brett could have had lessons on decorum. Gene wasn’t insecure at all. He was highly intelligent, very well read, knew something about tons of things. These people, this game show, brought laughter into households. These people, this show, made us forget about whatever was going on in this country in those days. You can’t say the same thing about those who live in H’wood these days. Some haven’t been in movies, or had a hit song, or been on any tv shows in years, so the only way the jerks of H’wood today can get in the news is to just be more jerk-ish than they really are, and create havoc, instead of trying to bring calm to this country.

He was being playful. He wouldn't be metoo'ed by the contestants or celebs, because they enjoyed the experience. They had fun. They knew it was harmless and goofy. You seem to be reactionary and look for darkness where there is none. Typical of the world today.

Also I believe if the producers were concern or there was complain I am sure they would pulled Gene aside and told him to cut it out and you can't do that. Hence the change in behavior thou the years. There are some people that nowadays that think Richard went too far on Family Feud at times, being mostly the kissing of all the female contestants. But the producer found out that what the audience wanted so Richard kept on kissing them.. Thank you others for standing up for Gene.. ;0) Listen to the audience, they are laughing as well as the contestant. ;0)

Brett was half in the bag so she wouldn't remember the question and the contestant probably hasn't seen the other episode so fair game.
@steveyounker7897Ай бұрын
Oh, they do that all the time! If you watch all of the seasons, you'll see several recycled questions, or at least revamped. But think about it, this show was on five days a week, and the writers had to come up with at least fifteen or twenty questions per episode. Even the smartest of us might find that challenging.
