Tension is the building block of creativity. Kirk was struggling alright through that and it is very frustrating to get the part right because the final product is what you will be having to deal with forever

Bob paid off his mortgages with Kirk's tears. So give it to the producer for pushing the artist into that desperate creative realm. It's harsh but works.

I'm so glad I saw this. Voodoo Child SR is my favorite guitar song ever, but Kirk's solo in Unforgiven is my favorite guitar solo ever. It's one of those pieces of music that, it's as if it already existed in the Universe, and the artist was able to capture it accurately. Not one note, not one bend, not one chord should be different. He got all of it right. This solo reminds me of 2112, the song as well as the album, in its anger and frustration, and in its chip on the proverbial shoulder.

Bob is a music legend. What he says is the truth and you can tell Metallica knows it too. You do not want tour coach to be a pushover. You want someone who would make you better than what you already are.

You can hear the influence this one solo had on Load and Reload, some of Kirk's best leads ever, and they're all built on FEELING and doing what Bob said, building to a peak.
