I really enjoyed this lesson Sis Wilson, and I love the way it was presented. I always come away with new pockets of learning after listening to your lessons. I found your take on the Saviour casting out devils very helpful to me. It's a story I've read and heard so many times, however, I have an added take on it now. My siblings and I grew up in a haunted house for years. I don't know why we stayed there as long as we did. We saw and heard many things, but nothing happened to our family. It wasn't like that for visitors though, and I don't know why. I am not going to spend a long time talking about this. But after listening to your take, I believe that nothing happened to us because of our relationship with the Lord. My parents always honored and put their covenants first. We were in the midst of darkness but darkness couldn't touch us. And it didn't. It was almost as if we were in a bubble. Your words added wonderful insight to that experience and time. I know these beings are manipulative. They play up alot and want attention. They're very good at playing mind games too. They had nothing better to do than to see what our family was up to. I believe they recognized the light in us and somehow knew my family was a boundary they were not allowed to cross. Just like the Saviour told the being in the story what he wasn't allowed to do. I am so grateful to the Saviour and his goodness. I am not even aware half the time of all the things he's done until later when I've had the chance to reflect. Thank you Scripture Central for this presentation. I see the stories in the scriptures are my story too ❤️.

Sister Wilson, I am so glad that you get a longer format, though I miss some of the other short videos. I used to use the short videos as a supplement to Taylor and Tyler. But their videos have become quite long and I appreciate the length of your current videos. The two part 1.25 to 1.5 hour videos by T&T are just too much for me. Thank you.

I start to comparing earthly life here and heaven. We need transportations by vehicle or by airplane going around but When Christ was born, angels appeared like flying. Earth communicates by phone or computer & media but heavenly messengers talk through the mind. When you following Christ teaching is not just reading story but through his work and each his action reveals the secret of knowledge of heaven one by one.. Thank you for pinpointing and reminding us. That makes me understand clearly.😇🙏Just fascinating!!!!

I always wonder why Jesus could not go and live with his mother when he needed a place to sleep or rest .

His town was the first place he announced that he was the Messiah and they tried to kill him. He lived where there were faithful people. There wouldn't have been any growth had he stayed in his own town with his mother. Hope that made sense

We can learn some important principles when we liken the story of the man healed of the legion of devils. Satan has bounds that he cannot pass - notice that the devils had to ask permission to enter into the swine; they cannot just do whatever they want. Remember, "we will ALLOW Lucifer, our common enemy to tempt them and to try them." As Joseph Smith said, "The devil has no power over us only as we permit him; the moment we revolt at anything which comes from God, the devil takes power.” We also learn in the temple that we can cast him out and command him to depart. Likening this to ourselves: do we think that there is a greater need to cast out devils and unclean spirits from our lives today than there was in Jesus' time? I think so. Many of the afflictions of depression, anxiety, and other mental challenges could all be resolved with a good priesthood blessing that casts out the devil that are plaguing many members of the church today, but we rarely talk about it.

I thought the Jews buried in a tomb for a year rolling a large stone in front then opened and put the bones into urns after a year. Is this correct?

I believe both accounts are correct. When someone dies, they were required to be entombed within 24 hours of their death. The body would be placed in a white cloth infused with spices and the tomb would be sealed. However, a year later the family would return to the tomb and unseal it. They would then place the bones of their dead into small bases called an ossuary. When Joseph's bones were taken from Egypt it would have been in one of these boxes. I don't think the bible is specific about if the disciple's father had just died or if their bones had yet to be placed into the ossuary. Given that the disciple was with the Savior when this conversation was taking place, I personally find it more likely that he was waiting to formally bury his father a year after his death. The Savior would have been teaching the disciple that leaving with him (Jesus) was more important than following a non-essential custom/tradition. At least that is my take.

There is another significance in the even if Jesus casting a legion of demons out of the man into the pigs. The Roman 10th Legion was stationed in that area at that time and their symbol was a wild boar. Now, think about demon's name - Legion, and they take over the pigs who are subsequently throw themselves off the cliff. So Jesus was also making a statement that He was indeed the king of Israel and it was a symbol of his power over the governments and armies of the world.
