Unfortunately aussie musicians don't get the credit they deserve. I think they're just as good as any in the world. Appreciate you showcasing their talent on your channel.

I feel like a lot of Aussie musicians are better than others around the world we here regularly. Because if they aren’t better they don’t get any exposure.

Why are you guys talking like different countries have different kind of quality regarding musicians? We are all people, and perhaps culture change performance but not talent. Ausie talent is neither better nor worse than other countries, cause talent doesnt work that way. Only reason you hear more about american and british musicians is because its a machine churning out artist after artist. And Matt Corby is appreciated all over the world. Not because he is Australian, but because of his raw talent.
@littleflick3 жыл бұрын
@@sirikalvik I won’t speak for others. But I was trying to articulate that USA and UK musicians are played so much around the world and here in Australia and unfortunately a lot of Aussie artists struggle to break into international audiences. So the few that do (like Matt Corby) are often extremely talented.
@suave-rider3 жыл бұрын
But Matt is to blame here. He chose to be an anti-big time artist and slink underground. He doesn't seem to want international fame and touring an that stuff
@SwayJJ3 жыл бұрын
Matt Corbys background is interesting. As a young teen he was in this strange travelling religious music group that travelled around parts of Australia (it was run by leaders of a church he used to attend). Then he auditioned for Australian Idol when he was 16 doing an audition of Superstition by Stevie wonder on his acoustic guitar. He didn’t win, think he came 5th or something like that. Anyway he was still very young. When he left the show he essentially went into hiding, didn’t release anything. He reappeared years later with a very indie vibe to his music which is when he released Brother. In an interview he said he was sort of embarrassed by the Idol thing and wanted to get away from it. He believed that mainstream music scene was not what he wanted his musical journey to be dictated by. When Brother came out it was huge on a indie radio station called Tripe J (which is still listened by a large population of Australian music listeners) but not at all on mainstream radio stations. He released several singles before his first major album. He is widely respected in the Australian music scene for his musicianship. By the way he is now 30 y.o

Love Matt! He come second on season 5 of Idol. Brother was huge on all main stations. #3 on ARIA charts and won ARIA song of the year 2012. Resolution was his other song that made its way onto mainstream radio in a big way. Also a great song!

Just to put it out there, Matt released 3 EPs (I think it was) independently in the Christian music scene before traveling to London and writing Brother after learning some heavy news about someone he trusted as a musical & spiritual mentor. Their relationship wasn’t repaired for a long time and hence the heaviness in songs like Brother (written about the situation) which literally broke his heart & why he writes to such an extent about his spiritual journey - the highs and lows/ups & downs. You can literally see how well he is mentally in the music he chooses to cover or put out & how he is running to God/community or away from it, denouncing it or openly engaging in its reality. He is a fascinating case study in many ways to see the effects of traumatic experiences and how they push the human psyche to its limits and what holds it all together. I have never been more convinced of anyone’s anointing. I went to one of his rainbow valley tour shows and during the song miracle love, unprompted the entire seated audience stood to their feet and ran to the front like an altar call. I just stood their weeping coz I’ve been praying for him for years knowing and seeing his pain play out and the turn around he has had since having his child is absolutely wild. All that to say, I appreciate these videos! Keep them coming. You should do a reaction to miracle love at Manchester cathedral.

What a gift from our musical forefathers and the lasting legacy of the famous Australian Wanderlust, leading us to travel and gather musical influences from a wide range of places and people. I’d also point to the really strong jazz scenes in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane in particular as a reason for this.

@@rebbrown72 Thank you so much, now I understand her full message lol. I’ve watched Tina since YTT and today I still think she’s one of our best music treasures and was treated poorly because she was on YTT so she goes overseas where a lot of her family is and blows them all away. Then the Aussies are like we want her back…..I saw her in pubs, in clubs and she fought to where she is today and I finally got a great seat at the opera House And watched her live with the full Sydney Symphony Orchestra I cried. And my gf was taping it and I yelled out “ I love you Tina always! “ & and she laughed ( cos I’m a loud bitch lol) and she said “ I know that voice I love you too” and my gf gave me the tape for my birthday lol. I do it to Marcia Hines as well lol. When I saw her up the coast and her new CD had just come out. My sister had said how me and hubby broke up and after the concert she raced out gave me her CD with a message inside of it. I bawled “ I wrote track 2 for you” gettin teary thinking about it lol. Thanks again for the link. That was sweet of you. 🙏🏻🇦🇺🙏🏻🥰 God Bless!

Matt was on Australian Idol, aged 16. He didn't win but did well. The thing I wanna add is that there was another 16 y.o. called Ben McKenzie that was, at the time, even better. He was deciding between a career in music or film making, and chose the latter. So we have missed out on all his magic. He absolutely killed it singing and playing piano. Worth searching KZbin for it, performing 'Hide and Seek'
