It's like they were trying to make a DMC style character action game that was all/only about the guns. That's... an admirable concept to try. Reminds me of Resonance of Fate, the Sega JRPG, in the sense of a developer trying to apply "GUNS!!!!" to a genre that traditionally doesn't lend itself to gunplay. It's kind of cool. Kinda.

There's more games that do that than you'd expect actually. Gungrave and Gungrave Overdose were the first to attempt it while Gunvalkyrie became a cult classic with it being built so that the goal is to not touch the ground, and Vanquish massively succeeded with high level play ignoring cover and more canceling mechanics than any other character action game.

you need to do this game justice with a full LP. when you get the mechanics and controls down it's a lot of fun, save for some terrible boss fights. it's probably one of the best games to come out of the max payne clone fad

I remember they had a trailer for the anime in the extras of Overdose. It had that cool announcer guy say "From the creators of Trigun. Based on the PS2 game" and the final line the announcer had later was " The worst kind of killer...is the one without a soul" then epic music and anime scenes it was epic.

the gameplay is a little more involved than gungrave isn't it? most of gungrave is just mashing the square button to watch shit happen. there's a rhythm to getting critical hits in this game, you don't really see that in this video though
