If you have a horse at a stables where the staff manage the horse as part of the package then of course it’s not as much of a time commitment as a dog. A dogs would live in the same house and would need looking after day to day, including when you went away on business. Unless your a shit owner who keeps it in the yard and doesn’t care for it correctly.🤨

Matthew Hale It’s a joke. Goddamn Horses require more care than a dog EVEN if someone is “managing the horse” at the stables, you still have to: Pay for Vet bills Ride/Check up on horse often Pay for stabling fee/boarding fee Pay for food and horse supplies Insure horse is happy, comfortable and healthy. Taking care of even one horse alone is extremely difficult. Even with a team of people. A dog is much more smaller & less expensive to care for. Even though both animals are difficult to own in general :)

I don't normally leave comments on videos but I just wanted to say well done on highlighting the conditions horses can sometimes be forced to live and work in, in Spain. I spent time as a working student in Portugal at a very well-renowned dressage yard and saw all sorts; horses with back pain forced to continue work, pain from bits, spur marks, the lot. I can recall one horse being shut in a darkened stable for days at a time without interaction, turnout or any stimulation whatsoever. I couldn't in good conscience return there to ride or learn, and the experience put me off learning classical dressage in Portugal. Thank you for your clear and professional stance, who knows, these people might change their ways.

Here is yet another video that gives a glimpse of the way he treats animals and another reason he has my respect. Thank you for loving and caring for horses. It breaks my heart that a distinction could even be made because it should be expected and not the exception. Not only does it do my heart good to see the way you love and care for them but I’m also extremely grateful for the example you are setting. I’m sure you have an enormous amount of followers so not only is it so beautiful that you are such a great example of the way horses DESERVE to be treated but your platform and the amount of people watching and taking in your example is in my mind one of the kindest things you do. You are setting an example and showing the world how they should follow your lead. You are obviously so talented and an unbelievable rider but in my opinion the most important thing that you are doing (and may not even realize it) is advocating for animals and showing how patience, kindness and love is not only the right thing to do but also is effective and arguably MORE effective. I’m just so grateful for you and our fellow horse lovers. Truly. Not only is your message a positive one but it’s also an extremely important message. The more people you can reach the better! I would love nothing more than to see you succeed and to receive all the world has to offer. Sending lots of love and respect your way from Kentucky! 💙

My students showed me your video (because they think you’re cute), but then I found it really interesting for the following reasons: 1) I know the Pura Raza Española really well, I own one myself, I have bought several with friends of mine, thus I also know the prices you pay for them (in Spain). I admire your line of argument (‘if I wanted a PRE that moves like a warmblood, I could just buy another warmblood’), which is true, but a lot of people don’t think like that. 2) I also know the agent you worked with - Patricia Richter, everybody in Spain knows her - and let’s just say I truly hope you did a vet check at a clinic YOU chose and that you were present during the vet check (especially the x-rays). You can send me a PM if you want to know more. 3) I have nothing but respect for your stance on the use of the serreta (the bridle with spikes), it’s an abomination/ proves the lack of good training, and the fact that she even showed you this horse should ring some bells. I also love your reasoning when it comes to buying horses from such owners. 4) The last horse is very sweet and beautiful, but it has serreta scars and - depending on his age and training - would probably sell for 6-8000€. Finally, I hope you found a nice, suitable, and above all healthy horse in Spain. 😊

I finally bought my stallion there, he spent 1 year in a box without going out, parasites, sleeping on his dirt, green water, no hair on his tail because of scratching... was very sad. He didn't even know that a hand approaching could be a carrot or something nice. He was afraid of a hand close to his head.. u wonder why. I bought him, and after 5 months, he is absolutely another horse, he have the shine back on his eyes, and ask a lot for cuddles. This is the first video of yours that I've seen. Beautiful horses but sad situations for them. When she said the huge horse was out of your price range, I was surprised at the condition of the stalls. I realize these buildings are old but thought if they had these beautiful, expensive animals, their facilities would be nicer. I am impressed that you spoke out to your agent and the owner about the spiked bridle and use of spurs. I raised a few Morgans and they were spoiled. We had a farrier that whipped one of our horses because she'd rear if they took too long with her front feet. She'd had check ligament surgery around a year old so was sensitive about her front feet. He was thrown off the property as soon as he started abusing her. Was the first and last time he worked on any of our horses. Lived in Arizona at the time and horses are considered livestock. It was 126 degrees one summer and a ranch down the road had a young foal that would stand with its head hanging very low. I mentioned that they should have shade for their horses and cattle. They asked me to leave, they were livestock, and none of my business. When I set up my little ranch, first thing that went in was the corral and a large shaded area at one end. I called the authorities and they told me that shade was not a requirement for "livestock". Upset me that in the desert, shade was not required. I hope they change the way they treat their horses but afraid they won't. I subscribed to your channel. Have been a subscriber of Rick's for quite awhile. Can't wait to see which horse you chose.

I'm from spain too. From what I've seen in the south part, the celebrations and culture make a lot of owners treat their horses just as objects to use for tradition. I know a lot of people here own horses and barely let them out of the stables, then overwork them and treat them way too aggressively when these festive events take place. These horses are often not even properly trained and "fight" with their riders for control on the streets, which is really dangerous. I've always wanted to learn how to ride a horse, but I don't want to get involved with this kind of treatment that goes on in the area where I live.

@@tori.bisom. You're not seeing the point.. As much as it would help this beautiful stallion, he would be funding the continued abuse of a line of horses after this one. He has a huge platform to spread the word about the abuse that does go on in a majority of Spain. This stallion now send the message to watch out for it. His spirit is broken, his body is scarred and now he has been shown to the world so someone out there can help him and report the owner. A decently large celebrity funding the abuser would only get more negligent eyes onto the horses. Meaning people who may not know the signs, the equipment used and perhaps would continue it after purchase would be coming. It's part of the "you cant save every stray, every hungry child, every sick and abused animal" mantra thing because if you try you will fail and perhaps bring the attention of unsuspecting people. Had one guy over here(Canada) doing much the same thing. A trainer happened to be one of the first people to get to see the animals/place, immediately called her vet(cell phones are wonderful inventions, took pictures, vet called SPCA and police, place was put on lockdown immediately. And with trainer's photos, NOTHING could be moved off the place. Literally nothing. Not even the dog or cats. By the time the SPCA got there, I was there, ready and able to purchase(or adopt) the mare and foal I'd initially been interested in, SPCA happily sold them to me for half the price he'd advertised them for, because a) *they* wouldn't have to look after them(2 less mouths to feed) and b) instant inflow of money to help feed and care for the other animals still remaining. I also had the 1st option on anything else that was there if I wanted them(same reasons). I didn't. Maybe that sounds cruel, but I had limited space as it was, I'd already been stretching it to attempt the mare and foal, but...grabbing while the getting was good, I had to at least try. Even I didn't forsee them being as bad as they were. Usually people who have such emaciated animals are also in denial about how bad they are! This guy, unfortunately wasn't. Or🤔, maybe he was...🤬🤯🥺

So glad you and Jesse treat your horses so well, hopefully this video will help educate a few people. One thing I learnt from another channel, which should have been obvious to me, is that however huge a horse is, it is a 'prey.' animal, so can be easily scared or nervous, and needs to be treated with that in mind.
