Traded in my D600 and a few lenses and picked up a Z7 in Jan 2019. I had to buy the FTZ but the trade in program gave me the value of the old camera and a discount on the Z7. I have a Z9, but the Z7 is still often the camera I take on trips. I love this camera.

I picked up a refurbished Z7 back in 2022, when it was on sale for $1499. It is still perfect for my uses... not a video or sports shooter. Honestly the only thing i would like to have would be backlit buttons. I've slowly been adding Z lenses to my collection (105MC is amazing), but many of my F Mount lenses like the 70-200 f/4 work like a charm.

I shoot stills on a Z7ii. I don’t care about video nor sports/action, thus I’ll stick to my beloved Z7ii for as long as it lives. I moved from a D800 to the Z7ii just for the sake of EVF & IBIS (and smaller size/weight) otherwise I’d have stick to F mount for ages.

Interesting timing on this one for me. I owned one of these a few years ago, but upgraded to a Z7ii then a Z8. Just picked up a used Z7 last week with low shutter count for $900 US. These are an absolutely killer deal at the current used prices. Z6s can be had for as little $600, which is also nuts for what you get.

I purchased two Z7s right after their introduction to use on a landscape-shooting trip to Arizona. One carried a 14-24 and the other a 24-70, both AF-S lenses. They were subjected to wet, dusty, and extremely hot conditions and never missed a shot. The image quality was fantastic then, as it is today. I have used both for over five years with no problems. Most of the time these are mounted on a tripod and I usually shoot at around 3-5 fps. For wildlife images, especially birds in flight, I depend on my Z8 and shoot at maximum frame rate. Again with the same image quality as the Z7 thanks to that wonderful sensor.

I purchased the same kit you mentioned around 5 years ago. Believe it or not, I am semi-retired but still occasionally shoot weddings and events with a pair of D750 cameras. I use the Z7 for portraits. For personal use I love the Z7 for landscapes and still photography. I keep trying to find a reason to upgrade but the cost can't justify it. If the Z7III rumors are true I probably will consider it. BTW, another great video, please keep them coming. Thanks.

The Z7 is a great camera. I had it and traded in for a ZF. I miss the Z7, and I'm thinking of repurchasing it again.
@brusselssprout12 ай бұрын
+ 1 . The files produced by the Z7/Z7II are superb and the ergonomy of the body is way better than the Zf (not just the grip, but also the customisation potential, button layout, top plate screen). The main annoyance of the Z7 for me was the hypersensitivity of the viewfinder autoswitch detector: one spec of dust and bye bye auto switching between EVF and back screen. And now that I have experienced the magic of current gen AF, I do not know if I'd enjoy using the Z7 as much as I did back in 2020. But I am more and more tempted to repurchase....

I was about to get a Z7 as my first full frame camera mostly because of the high MP but then found a Z6II in like new condition. I've been very happy with the Z6II and for travel photography I think it does great. Very compact and fits in my side bag (together with the 24-70 F4 on it), good in low light and the AF works well for what I need it for.

Absolutely! I still have my Z7ii and looking at the latest from Nikon, there isn't yet a camera that is more suitable to bushwalking landscape work. Apart from wishing I had a multi tilt rear screen there is nothing on the camera that I would change. It still has the best image quality (just) and it is the lightest and smallest high resolution full frame camera that Nikon produces. And of course, the lenses are just sensational on this camera. I suspect I will still be using this camera several years down the track.

very interesting. I had often thought about it too. I initially bought a Nikon Z6 in 2020. But I quickly realized that I needed the 45 megapixels and switched to the Nikon Z7. I have never regretted that. I never take more than 4-5 frames per second, if at all. What mattered to me was the 45 megapixels and as you rightly said, all other models that are current today are also 45 megapixelsfrom nikon. I love my Nikon Z7 and will keep it. I take a lot of photos with manual lenses like Zeiss. The autofocus is so irrelevant anyway. But in contrast to the Nikon D850, I have the advantage of the focus magnifier.

Z7 Highly recommended and does everything I needed. Purchased 2nd hand at $2300 3 years back. Used it to create a long form documentary for an ultra running documentary (on my channel) with the 24-120 f4. Recorded everything in flat profile and worked a treat with complete confidence. Autofocus was a bit annoying sometimes for video - but absolutely usable. As a "do it all" Nikon, the original Z7 and Z6 would probably meet most needs. BTW - hardly used 10fps as this feature is probably important to less than 2% of most cases for me.

Great video. I think the most amazing thing is the high-quality video that is recorded from the Nikon Z7 on an Atmos ninja recorder. Properly graded in DaVinci Resolve using a conversion from Nikon n-log to Arri log. The Z7 footage is the most organic beautiful footage ever to come out of a Nikon camera. I absolutely love it. When the Z 8 came out with internal raw recording, I was very excited, and even though the quality is great. It’s too sharp, it lacks that organic creaminess of the Z7 on a ninja V.

Hello Matt, I know you are talking about the Z7, Started my mirrorless with Nikon on the Z7II as a replacement for my loved D850 and had the two for a will. I was knot as happy with the D850, mostly with the speed of focus and then the Z9 was about to come out and I said to myself just order it. As there was people waiting months I thought it that time I my lean to love, But no. The Z9 arrived in 3 weeks. Now thats a camera. I have used a number of time at 20fps and one or two times 120fps. The 20fps just take so long going over all the image I now seldom go over 10 fps, But I can if needed. As far as 120fps that is amazing if you have the job for it. Keep well, stay safe and enjoy life. PS You are so right about all the Z glass its just so good it was worth going mirrorless by it self.

I also use an a D750 for backup while I'm on extended visits to the wilderness. Due to budget restraints I was going to purchase an F-mount telephoto lens (I have an adapter) but after watching this video, I will try to find an affordable Nikon Z-mount one instead. As a film guy from way back, I love the one card slot on my Z7-it’s a simpler design. Also, I reason that a CF card is way more durable and foolproof than a roll of film. Believe it or not, photographers actually shot weddings, photojournalism, and so on, with a single roll of film.

I have recently bought my second Z7 from Grays of Westminster for under £1000 grade 9 which is being converted to IR 720nm, my bag will be complimented with 2 x Z7 bodies 14-24 f2.8 / 24-70 f2.8 / 70-200 f 2.8 and a set of Kase filters, the 14-24 lens hood becomes the filter holder which fits on all lenses. I managed to get a used Z7 (kit) within 6 months of the release date, most likely a display model as only 15 shots had been taken. My first real digital camera and my first Nikon. At the time I wasn't taking any sports or fashion shots, so I was really impressed. Purchased the wider f/4 zoom and a 24mm tilt/shift for my travel work. The first runway shot was OK, but found the overall speed of the camera couldn't cope with the fast changing lighting and autofocus at the same time, so purchased a Z9. The Z9 is great, so I now shoot a lot more sports, and have become more reliant on the auto-focus especially using the 50 and 85 mm f/1.2 lenses. Never had a card failure, but then I don't rely on using one card for a whole shoot, this comes from shooting weddings with film. As I like the wide apertures, the only downside is my bag is getting really heavy, and as the Z9 is tall, it's difficult to find a bag which fits the Z9 and is carry-on sized (20cm in my case). I have used other cameras from the people who attend our photo walks, generally I find the ergonomics of the Nikon Z7/9 much better, and the Nikon menus easier to understand even though there are way too many options to choose from. My next purchase, maybe the 400 f/2.8, so totally invested in Nikon kit now, by comparison my very first SLR was a completely mechanical Zenith.

Well I don't use Nikon gear any more Matt. I reckon some of the earlier cameras with better lenses can definitely work well and they are really good value. Now I noticed the Nikon Z and Z72 were very good value. You get 45 megapixels of beef and pretty decent auto focus. I think it's got to the point Matt and I've said this before on several platforms that the auto focus in some of the newer Canon cameras is so good that there is actually virtually no skill level left in the art of photography especially for wildlife photography and I know that sounds like I'm moaning and groaning and being a grumpy old man I'm not that old. I'm 54 but you get where I'm coming from that if there's no challenging Photography then I get disinterested. That's just me now. Some people are all about the shot. They just pack up the gear. They want to head out into the wilderness for the weekend and I get it. They want to nail the shot but I still love some of the challenge that this camera might present. My only concern with this camera is the dynamic range wasn't as good as the D850. This is why it's so good for people getting into Photography now and I teach photography in my local community. It's kind of beginner intermediate level stuff and these are the types of cameras that I tend to promote a fair bit. It's that camera that's maybe four or five years old or longer but still has decent . I'm not a fan of the Z6 cameras at 24 megapixels I've said 24 megapixels is inflexible and you take a huge hit in image quality and I've seen those images out of the Z6 cameras compared to the Z7 and it's talking and cheese and people will bang on about file sizes honestly storage now is so cheap if you are spending $2000 on a camera you can afford two or $300 for two or 5 TB SSD and you're good for ages. The other thing that 45 megapixels gives you is extra cropping think about it. You can crop a photo at 50% and still get a 22 megapixel file. In other words. It means carrying less lenses. You could be carrying a 200 mm lens and you can crop into 400 mm with a 20 megapixel file and that's usually good enough for social media e even printing extra megapixels gives you cropping. I keep telling that to people and people don't get it man oh man.

It was improved a lot with the newer firmware that added decent autofocus for human and animal eyes. In the earlier firmware versions autofocus was a problem. For me as a non professional that is really good enough.

I am thinking of Adding Z7 as an affordable Landscape/ slow subject / high dynamic range camera. I own a Z9 and ZF , could be great. I am wondering if we'd see a Z7 III.

HI Matt, I purchased a Z7 from KEH with the 24-70 f4 about a year ago to supplement my loved and well used D850. I have grown to really appreciate the camera and in fact I have been carrying it with me more and more lately due to size and weight compared to the D850. The only thing I have been using my D850 for has been for bird photography where the D850 is better than the Z7.

I’m still shooting a z7 for landscapes and I still love picking it up every time. But where’s my z7iii?
@johnforbes47952 ай бұрын
Hi Matt. I would consider buying a Z7iii if it came with no blackout, 15fps and 46MP, and hopefully an EVF as good as the Z6ii. I currently own both a Z9 and Z8, which I love, but a Z7iii would be a wonderful landscape, travel and hiking alternative. I sold my Z6ii, Z7ii and my D850 when I bought the Z9 and Z8. I'm a resolution junkie so the Z6iii sounds like a really nice camera, but I want more MP, I was never sold on the Z6ii. By the way, I shoot 15 fps with probably 80% of my images, which have reached 65,000 images in five days when I'm on a big shoot that includes movement. Also, I certainly did love the resolution of both my Z7ii and the D850, but the D850 was just too noisy for my use-case (scared the animals when at full burst, especially when using the Nikon battery grip at 9fps).

Most of all I love the size and feel of the Z7. I wish the Z8 was that size and weight

Matt, I started 50 years ago with a Nikon photonic F, these days I use a D850. I am a singe shot guy.

Still using Z7 from very first day of its release date and I don't feel I need to upgrade anytime soon. I usually don't shoot anything move faster than trees and mountains.

The most underrated, OVER DELIVERING camera ever made!!!

I upgraded from a D610 in December 2019 to a Z7 but I was seriously bummed, because it couldn’t go to less than 10secs in my Timelapse software, however to date it is my most used camera it goes everywhere with me and for travel as well because it is so light even though I have added the beast of a Z9 and a ZF. I was thinking of selling it but I wouldn’t get much for it, so I’m keeping it😂

I still shoot with a Z6 that I bought from a friend that bought refurbished. Still looks pristine!

I have my 2nd D850 and besides a Z5 (with FTZ II) and a Fuji x-s10 (with Fringer NF-FX); for my purposes these cover nearly all . Only sometimes for BIF I use 8fps, but it's rare.

I have a z50, z7 and a z9. I use the z7 90 percent of the time.

I bought one second hand like new for 1350 USD after I got fed up waiting on the Zf waiting list. I never bothered buying the Zf, I love the Z7, especially for landscape. Main downsides: autofocus a bit sluggish, cannot keep up with my kids bouncing about. Autofocus in low light is not great. I wish the horizon level view was less intrusive. I miss the area mode autofocus eye detection from the Zfc.

I have a Z7 and a D810 so I shoot less than 10 fps. I was waiting for the Z9II but they cut the sensor in half (24mp). So I might wait for the Z7III

Don’t think there will be a Z7 III because of the Z8 which unfortunately has to be a bit heavier.

It's all nice and good Matt, but the blunt question is: is a Z7 III coming or not?? I'm sure you're fed more info that we are (from Nikon), can you cast some light on the Z7 III pls? Don't Nikon need to compete with Sony and the high(est)-resolution contest? 90MP FF sensor are a reality, will Nikon go for that or what?

I miss my old Z7 (on Zf now), and I'd love to see a Z7III with same body and EVF as Z6III. meanwhile, I am about to purchase a minty 2nd hand Z7II.... how I miss those files and that ugly-but-oh-so-ergonomic body design. Thanks for this video!

I have a Z6II, Zf and Z8. why would I put money into a Z7? The Z6II produces stunning images for most use-cases. It's nice to have the Z6 II with the 24-70mm f/4 S lens when I'm out in the evening with my wife. I took it with me when we went to ballet last year at the Sydney opera house. I have a Zfc, but there is little advantage size and ergonomics wise and the Zfc doesn't have ibis.

Shoot picture, advance film, shoot picture, advan.................. I shoot most times, one at a time. Sure, maybe with a moving animal, etc. But most times, NOPE. I shoot most stuff like you Matt. 😁 I still have my Z7. Waiting, but the Z8, so far will be my next camera.
