i guess one of the reasons why i like watching these videos is because matt reminds me of a red head kid in my grade 4 class. He was very quirky and had anxiety problems. And he also had some of the nicest, niftiest school supplies in the entire class. He was very meticulous of how he organized his books and school supplies, and he had a dedicated stationary for a very specific task! We all have seen someone like that in school at one point!!!

I totally agree about IND. I called those guys up directly for a couple parts when my M2’s front bumper was damaged. They were so bummed to hear about the damage and they got the intercooler shipped straight from CSF since it was closer and cheaper, and they comped the shipping and ceramic coating on the reflectors. True enthusiasts and good humans over there.

Hey Matt remember you are giving these cars a new life and that’s what’s soo cool about your channel and what you do. And it’s real people who follow you and love this stuff and have changed the way we all look after our cars. Jp

I totally agree with you on not needing to do cross hatches. I've learned many years ago that cross hatching doesn't matter and has made no improvements on my results. I think cross hatch matters for diminishing abrasives. But for non diminishing abrasives, we stop polishing once we reach our desired result. No need to over work the polish.

The heat difference between the 3" and 5" is due to the total friction applied to the surface. Due to the larger circumference, the 5" has 60% more outer edge pad speed than the 3", and therefore generates more heat. The correction is less because of the larger pressure spread across the larger pad, but the speed has more to do with heat generation than pressure does, especially with an orbital. On a rotary the pad size makes an even more significant impact, which is why a 1" nano on the rotary setting is actually very safe, because it's overall pad velocity is pretty low due to the small pad circumference.

Definitely re-do the calipers. I think any color will look better than stock. Even just some shiny black with the M logo. Metallic silver is pretty much the hardest color to match. I'd avoid repainting the front bumper unless you had to.

Same car and I am getting mine repainted. Have you gotten quotes? Also, how can we address the black hexagonal plastic piece that you took off on the front bumper. Can we spray that with paint? Mine is a little faded
@thomaslang61875 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, silver metallic is the worst/most vhallenging color to match when re-painting. Even if you have the exact same paint (type and make), it makes a difference what pressure you use for the spray gun and the spray-distance. Then the clear can also slightly discolor the base paint. Also UV light changes slightly the color over time. It requires a good, very good painter who takes his time to match it perfectly. Normally adjacent panels - in your case Fender and Hood - might be painted (blended) as well. These would then provide the invisible blend from the new to the old color...this would be then the OG way 😉 BR Thomas.

Matt, Do you think it'd be more efficient cycling 3-4 pads at a time and then blowing all out at same time, instead of keep going outside every pass?
@ObsessedGarage5 жыл бұрын
It would, but it would be damaging to the pads. The hook and loop on the blue backing plates for RUPES is pretty nasty.

hey matt did you ever think having one of those sandblasting box for blowing pads inside the garage and not creating a mess
@derekmunro51005 жыл бұрын
I think you may have missed how Jim White uses a bucket to blow out his pads. He drilled a hole halfway down the bucket to where the air nozzle fits in. Then he takes a spray bottle of water and sprays the inside of the bucket before he blows the pad out and the compound sticks to the side of the bucket. You should try that and see if it works for you.

I think the silver with gold caliper looks sleek and aggressive as is maybe with a bit brighter better gold power coat. Maybe an OG caliper vinyl?
@dankubb5 жыл бұрын
What about having half a dozen of the same kinds of pads for each machine? Just rotate through all of them and then blow them out when you've used your last one? That'll save you some extra trips outside and more importantly keep you in the flow.

Matt have you ever tried one of those Grit Guard pad washers ? It’s not the same as blowing out the pads as all the polish is gone, but they can be blown dry. I really liked it doing a mow down on old oxidized single stage Mercedes paint. I have also been looking for a dry pad device that has some kind of vacuum system in a bucket. 101 is very dusty.
@ObsessedGarage5 жыл бұрын
That's probably a really good idea to be used with something dusty.
@Piglet62565 жыл бұрын
I would do the calipers in a deep blue, nothing beats silver with blue. Green is to screamy and doest match silver well. About the heat it makes sense, the bigger the disc, the more friction per square inch, so more friction over the area the faster it heats up that area, since your apply more friction on a certain area. If that makes sense to you? Regarding the not expaining, its not a training video on how to use a polisher or how to polish, your showing the OG dial in of a new car as you call it, if we wanna know all about polishing from a to z, this is not that video offcourse. your just taking us through your process and showing us what thats like, stuff you use etc. For cleaning pads, you can liquid clean them aswell instead of blow them out using the Lake Country System 3000D Pad Washer which seems to work fine. Thats all i have to comment for this video, sorry to dissapoint :P

You treat the plastic bits (bumper) the same as the steel? The steel areas will act as a heat-sink and draw heat out of the pad. The plastic areas will act like an insulator.

Hey Mat, can you throw a pad on the mark 2 with the washer mod and take a temperature of the paint, and compare it to the mark 3 without the washer mod. I remember seeing in one of your videos were Jason said he don’t recommend the mod because it creates an air gap with the housing, and effects the cooling of the pad. I would like to see if it’s a big difference, thanks Ed

Also a screen printing screen cleaning booth might be a good addition so you donut have to go outside to clean the pads. Have it all covered and spray it into a plastic sink. Just a thought
@jtm19795 жыл бұрын
Imo rotary wont cut any faster than long throw da unless you use big like 10" twisted woolpad. But say you put 5" rupes blue wool pad and there wont be much if at all difference except long throw will leave a lot better finish.
