I’m from Maui. I moved to England a few years ago after marrying my English husband. Our hearts are aching so bad. I wish I can go home to help. My friends and family are safe thank goodness but all the lives lost and the heartbreak of families and friends who have lost someone dear. Lost homes and lost jobs. This is a huge blow to us Maui people. Lahaina is such a big part of our identity. The history and culture. Lahaina was the capital of Hawaii when Hawaii was ruled by a monarchy. It is also an old whaling village. The harbour there is where humpback whales come every year to mate. Im very saddened and although buildings and homes can be rebuilt, the lost lives and history can never be replaced.

The heat was so intense that it burned concrete. But many of the trees were protected by their moisture and lack of oxygen stores. Seems crazy but our trees have evolved to fight off attack - our homes haven’t. I watched palm trees sway and bend almost in half, but they never broke, during a hurricane.

It’s hard to believe all the automatic warning systems in place failed in such a modern location with fill cell capability, etc. When we had a similar firestorm here in California in the middle of the night, first responders went door to door, telling residents to drop everything and run for their lives. This saved hundreds.

Imagine telling yourself and others that in 2-3 hours time the entire town you live in will be burned to the ground. Folks would say you're crazy. But once the fire started and was fanned by 60 mph winds heading in just the right direction, to a town almost completely made of tinder, it was all but inevitable.

Actually this is the fastest response we’ve ever seen (6 hours from the federal govt). A text warning went out but sirens did not. Winds of 50-80mph, 10’ tall non native grasses, a swelling homeless population and tinder dry conditions led to a dangerous combination. We are talking about a place with little infrastructure. Maui needs serious help and prevention for future fires and better evacuation that includes reforestation, multiple lane roads, firebreaks, buried power lines and less flammable structures. This was preventable with the right long term plan and diligent oversight.

With 80 emergency sirens that are tested once a month in Lahaina, mysteriously, NONE of them were sounded? They still haven’t told us how the fire originally started but I can say, a lot of extra fires, were caused by downed power lines which were never turned off. Not to mention, firefighters & cops were all elsewhere at the beginning & during the burning of Lahaina. Lahaina use to be a wetland until the sugar cane industry diverted all water for themselves.

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.» Gospel of Jesus Christ - Matthew: Chapter 1

They did as for it by allowing dry vegetation to exist all around their homes and businesses. This could have easily been avoided and is a clear indication of a failed government. All that dry vegetation surrounding houses is no different than pouring gasoline on your house hoping it won't go up. I seriously can't believe the fire marshal of that area allowed this to happen.

I monitored Dora from the time it started south of Baja, and it increased substantially without moving westward. Then it advanced slowly westward and got weaker. Then as it got closer to Hawaii, it stayed well south of the islands, but started restrengthening to a super strong hurricane. But like most hurricanes it didn't turn up towards the islands. It stayed well south, as in about 700 miles south. But while that was happening, there was a huge strong high pressure on the central Pacific that combined with the upper reaches of the spinoff of Dora, which culminated and supposedly concentrated together to have a windfall focal point on Maui, for some reason on the west Maui mountains defending into Lahaina. Here on Oahu, we felt strange gusts whipping and defending on us, but not like it was happening on Maui, which is substantially south of Oahu. And yet even on Oahu, there was an eerie dryness and volatile gustyness to the air moving about for two days before the day that Lahaina caught on fire. We were worried on Oahu, but had no idea how much worse this extreme dryness with huge massive gusts were on Maui. The winds in Dora had been holding at 200mph for three days as it got closer to the south of the Hawaiian islands. Lahaina has always been hot dry town especially in summer time, so this set up was a very rare extreme volatile danger. So whatever sparked it was waiting to happen, and it was a set up so that when it happened, it was going to go up like burning a Christmas tree. A flash fire, a speed fire, beyond a wild fire. It started, got propelled by 70 mph winds, ripped through 5 miles at 70 miles per hour, and then whatever was long burning material continued to burn, but there was no way to earn anyone about this flash fire. It happened way way too fast. Very similar to the wind driven paradise fire in California, but worse. I've never seen a hurricane weather scenario behave like this, so concentrated and quick in all 66 years of my life in Hawaii. Not even remotely close.

The thing about fires like this is they don’t move in a linear way. You get to watch wildfires progress across a landscape when it’s safe to get an aircraft up. But a 70 mile an hour wind can blow embers a mile or more past the head of the fire. You’ll never get to see this kind of fire behavior from the air and firefighters have died when caught at the head of a fire like this. I don’t know enough about this instance, I’d bet none of you do. But there are plenty of instances where fires like this blow embers across a landscape causing spot fires that expand in seconds. I’m just not sure any warning would have done anything but clog roads. I pity the decision maker who saw this develop in seconds and realized they were powerless to do anything.

@AnyoneCanSee
@AnyoneCanSee Жыл бұрын
No, it is going to go up. If hundreds are still unaccounted for many of those are likely dead. The fires were so hot that they will just be charred remains in with all the burned remains of houses, furniture, cars etc. I assume they are crossing people off missing lists as they are found and it's been long enough that the majority of missing will be dead. So hundreds more missing means hundreds more dead.

normally, that count of missing does shrink to a very small number very fast after natural disasters, at least ones that are so small with a major response focused on them in which survivors are likely to be registered quickly. in this case, there are two potential unwelcome explanations for the still high number of missing: one is that almost all corpses inside homes have yet to be counted (and many may be difficult to identify as human remains at all because they are largely incinerated), and the other is the potential for a large number of people having been swept out to sea after fleeing into the water.

So you can force the now homeless into bus shelter camps and ration their water and beat them up when they try to leave? Like during Hurricane Katrina? It's all so odd, from lazer weapons, to the fact that there was things about 15 minute cities planned for that very area... along other things wake up people it's obviously intentional. My mom was warcning someting about just how odd all of this is etc,it all seems to line up with some wef 15 min city thing, but they are calling it a wild fire... when they had to do something to get rid of the existing town to then be able to build this, also something about a lazer was detected on aweather thing too. wake up people it's not climate change, it's a lie they are using as a blanket to hid their true intentions. I've been following this stuff for about a year and a half now, it honestly makes so much sense when you connect the dots and watch what is happening around the world, the political policies governments are trying to impose.. I live in Canada we have our fair share of that here. Its truly is scary what they are trying to do, and so many people are clueless, the "pandemic" was just the beginning, and look at all the things that came from that...look into it, look into the great reset book by Klaus Schwab the head of this WEF stuff, also get looking into things like when wef started and when this climate change stuff got popular and when/ where the first climate change conference was.. you will find it was the same place as wef and only 2 or 3 years after. Call it a conspiracy theorie all you want, but after all I've seen... it all adds up and makes sense and also you can find all this stuff all online and on the wef site etc sure it looks to be all good on there but its not. Wake up.

As a superpower we will do both: support our fellow Americans through this disaster, and hep Ukraine prevail over war criminal Putin!

@@seanbrown9048 If we stopped worrying about other countries, we would be able to help our own. That's the problem with America. We screw our own people to help other countries. Screw Ukraine, let them fight their own battle and and take care of our own people. Maui needs us. The United States is not a superpower, especially since we have a brain dead lunatic running the country. America's IQ dropped by half when he moved into the WH in 2021. Oh and buy the way, if you hate criminals then you won't vote democrat since they are the ones that are soft on crime.

@@jahrastaeasygaming2372 Wildifres are very common on Hawaii.. they have a bunch each year, highest percentage of all US states. It was a matter of time until a siren failure would occur and it happened. Nothing mysterious about this... we all knew it was gonna happen some day. And it was a pretty normal fire. Nothing unnatural about it really.
