I remember seeing him during a chess tournament in Bad Wiessee, Germany back in 1997. Maurice Ashley seemed absolutely authentic and - unlike many other grandmasters - not even slightly aloof or vain. He is certainly one of the best commentators around today.

@Gonzo Kaporal I knew what chess was before this interview. I just didn't care about it (and still don't). Thus, I knew none of the big names or famous matches. I replied to the original post because of the tone of "OMG I can't believe people don't immediately know " was silly and I addressed that.
