This is and will forever be my favorite violin concerto. I'm glad your father liked it too. May he rest in peace.

Unglaublicher Ton, out of this world.Sie ist einfach genial, da ist gar keine Frage.

She was 17 when she played this with Karajan... let that sink in.... She already had an unmistakable voice. Her interpretation is so much sweeter and intense than how this piece is usually played -- would have made Menuhin quite proud!

This symphony touches my soul every time. The change in the melody from a hopeful lightness to the deep melancholy that only lovers can feel with such intensity, and then to a powerful passion that ignites the fervor of temperament and claims everything for itself, creates a roller coaster of emotions and a strong contrast that symbolizes the ambivalence that a loving person often carries within himself. The heaviness of the inner struggle is finally resolved by a gentle melody that embodies peace and confidence: We are one with the eternal infinity of the spheres.

There is one bit here at 15:30 when the whole orchestra reaches a crescendo that still makes the hairs on my neck stand up, it is so good. The sleeve notes for the 'Your Hundred Best Tunes - the top 10' which I first listened to this say "Through this violin concerto alone, Max Bruch's reputation will remain secure. It is a standard work in the violinist's repertoire. The warm expressive melodies of the Adagio have led some to regard this movement as one of the most rewarding pieces of music ever written for the violin. Indeed its main theme has been called 'a melodic glory of the 19th century".

Thank you very much for this comment! I've listened to this concerto hundreds of times and I know very well the passage you're talking about. It displays keen emotional intensity, always brings tears to my eyes and makes me lose my breath. (The same thing happens to me with Bruch' seductive Kol Nidrei played by Mischa Maisky, Verbier Festival) Joseph Joachim called this concerto "the richest, the most seductive" of the concertos. Thanks again!

She was just seventeen when recorded this Concerto. It is quite difficult to play. She didn't just play, she put her heart on it.

I reviewed most of the Bruch Violin 1 recordings on KZbin and this, IMHO is the best. Mutter has a way of phrasing her notes that is almost conversational and the music soars. Listen to 21:25 until the end and see if you don't agree. We are privileged to be able to listen to it.

Thanks! I'm addicted to this concerto and Mutter's performance. She doesn't play the violin ... she "tells" us a story.... I often hold my breath when I listen to her. Also, although I'm ashamed to admit, my eyes are always full of tears. Thank you again!
