I believe that this track is the best opportunity for Africa to have an F1 race again. The track is ready, although I would still make changes to it to improve overtaking. But I don't know if they will have the money for it. Since 1994 they haven't had it yet. Morocco is another option, they certainly have money, but they don't have a race track. Just adapting the FE track in Marrakesh or building a new one. In other countries it would be much more difficult. Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Zimbabwe would be good candidates. But there is a whole infrastructure for racing to be built yet. I hope it won't be long before F1 returns to Africa!

The only place I really think would need any change would be the hairpin before mineshaft, other than that I don’t see what needs to be done to improve the racing. But if you think the front straight isn’t long enough or that the highspeed corners are going to give too much dirty air, then I agree with you. But, why even go to a new venue if the track has the same taxonomy as all the others? Not every overtake happens on a long straight into a hairpin, it also comes from mistakes and pressure. Kyalami is hard to pass on but that’s also the point - you work for the overtakes. You get a bad run out of cheetah and the final corner can be used to pressure a mistake on to the front straight. You don’t push hard enough through barbecue and you can get passed into sunset bend. Only place which is a bit unoptimized is the hairpin like I said before where if they trimmed the inside of the corner to leave the racing line more exposed then not only could you overtake there more effectively, it would serve as a better pick on the run through mineshaft into crocodiles.

@@isuckatthisgame yeah something along the lines of only losing 20% when in the wake rather than 70-80. It’s gonna help a lot but it won’t be a silver bullet. Overtaking is optimized where mistakes are magnified and cars have space to race side-by-side. You can’t overtake into a majority of kinks or esses sections because cars lose too much time when off the racing line. The best complexes are slow, tricky corners followed by a long straight into another slow corner which is wide on entry. It allows for the largest acceleration difference, and therefore overtaking if the trailing car gets a run. Kyalami has a section like that now on the front straight like you said, and is a bit short. But honestly, these sections are a dime a dozen and I think since there will be less aero sensitivity tracks should begin to move towards faster and flowy-er designs like the rest of kyalami. Like I said before, I think this track has two overtaking spots aside from the first corner which kind of scratch that itch for me: sunset bend and the hairpin before mineshaft. If more tracks move away from guaranteed overtaking and towards gutsy overtaking then we’ll be in for a spectacle I think.

No the old straight is now where a business park is on the opposite side of the course, the designers said they wanted to recapture the old kyalami feel with the new front straight hence the similarity
