This happened to me when I was reversing my 2018 DCT back into my garage. I have a limited amount of room between my car and the garage wall. Decided that folding in both mirror housings was the best way to help manoeuvre the bike into the available space. I selected reverse mode and was backing the bike in to the garage nice and steady, suddenly the bike stopped dead! Luckily I had a good hold of the bars and stopped the bike from falling over. It took me a while to work out what had just happened but it suddenly became obvious that the front brake lever had contacted the mirror housing. I understand the Chris (Cruisemans Garage) knows of one rider who had this happen to, and ended up fracturing his ankle as the bike fell over onto him.

Speaking of tipping, my experience with my 2018 Honda700 CTX DCT was traumatic. I believe the kickstand is too verticle and leaves the MC in an almost straight up position when parked. I've had the bike since May 2019 and it fell over a few times, the last time to the right breaking my right hip while in VA touring from my home State of NY resulting in a hospital stay, etc.. The MC kickstand has a dangerous design flaw. I won't be riding again until the Spring of 2020 putting a serious damper on my plans to continue touring the US of A. I'm currently looking for an attorney willing to help me file suit against Honda. I also won't be riding my bike until the kickstand is resolved.
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
Hate to hear that. You can fix a tall kickstand easily by heating the leg and bending it to an angle you feel puts the bike at a safe angle. It can be fixed in minutes. The other option is cutting the foot off, cutting a piece of the leg out, and welding the foot back on. More time consuming.
@lightnbreezy5 жыл бұрын
@@Traxxion Thank you, Max, I like your idea, great suggestion.
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
@@lightnbreezy Usually, the opposite is the problem.... they bent slowly over time, and then they lean too far to the left. This also happens from heavy riders sitting on heavily loaded bikes while on the side stand. I haven't come across the "too tall" situation, unless the owner has put lowering links on the bike or something stupid like a car tire.
@tbonemc21185 жыл бұрын
The real problem with this sort of bike is its massive weight. A rider moving the bike around by foot won't be using the foot brake because they'll be struggling with both legs to keep it upright. Anyone using the front brake with a heap of lock and only the tiniest bit of lean is just about guaranteed to drop it. There are two types of riders. Those who have dropped their bike in their driveway and those who haven't yet. Nothing to do with mirrors.
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
The Wing is best suited for this as the engine and drivetrain weight is very low. Having said that, I don't even sit on a Wing to move it, I push it like any other motorcycle or bicycle. I've been pushing Honda Goldwings for decades, and I have never dropped one. If you can drop your Goldwing while sitting on it, then it's not safe for you to operate one.
@tbonemc21185 жыл бұрын
@@Traxxion Is that what I've been doing wrong all these years. Never dropped one on the road but I've done it twice on my driveway. My blackbird happened after I thought I put the side stand down and my VFR 1200 has a nasty habit of needing more revs than you think and will cough if you don't give it enough which is deadly at slow speeds with a lot of lock. It's actually my second VFR because the Honda shop guys dropped the first one in their shop while doing the pre delivery and I had to spot the nearly buffed out scratches on the casing, can and mirror before they admitted anything. It did make it easier getting it swapped out for a new one . Owned that one for the 3 days it took them to swap over my new top box, radiator guard, tyres, centre stand, registration and insurance.

@@Traxxion That’s how I’ve ever moved any bike. My wife has a Rebel 1100 DCT and MAN is that thing so much easier to push around after pushing my Wing, it feels like a bicycle by comparison 😂. The fix for this "problem" is to use un-common sense and pay attention to what you are doing. If any rider gets tripped up by this non-issue, maybe you are more suited to Croquet, Badminton and a nice pedal powered tri-cycle. An affected rider may also want to avoid those tricky shoes with laces that tend to be so difficult to tie without help and cause you to fall over when stepping on the laces of the opposite shoe. If this video has helped you in any way, I pray to never come within 50 miles of you on the road. By the way, 2 plus 2 equals Jello. How the hell do you know if it does or does not?
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
It is absolutely reasonable for anyone backing a bike out of a garage who hopes to turn it around to turn the handlebars all the way to the steering stop. That same person should have no expectation that their front brake hit some part of their motorcycle, lock up their front wheel, and cause their bike to tip over. This has happened to hundreds of highly experienced motorcyclists, many I'm sure with far more experience than you have. You are no better than anyone this has happened to, no smarter, no more observant, and if you owned this bike, it would cartainly happen to you. Karma is a cruel, and you may be the person on the tricycle next week.

Hi Bill, I've never said "don't buy this bike". I do like it. I'm just showing people problems that they will need to work out if they buy one (or tolerate). A bike with lots of technology like the wing only adds to list of possibilities. If you want to tour, there's no substitute for this bike, it's the best at what it does!
