I flew an A-10 for several years. I thought our base was being attacked so I went out and strafed a rusty tank, a Honda Civic and a Tyrannosaurus. The boss smelled alcohol on my breath so I never got credit for the dinosaur. To whom it may concern, these are my 3 favorite art books: - Works of Wonder by Michael Whelan - Icon by Frank Frazetta - Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson

I spent most of my 11 year Air Force career working as a crew chief on A-10's. I even helped rebuild the display at DM's front gate. I was stationed at Woodbridge, Suwon and also Davis Monthan. The detail and accuracy you create is amazing!!! The A-10 was a blast to work on and inspect every day, you make this process seem so enjoyable as well. I will be using your tutorial to create my own model to relive past memories. Older planes did not have formation lights, I believe we started getting them in the late 80's? Thank you!

Thanks for the added info about Capt. Button. I was living in Sedona AZ and was standing outside my work on Feb.9, 1985 in the morning when two A-10s flew into Oak Creek Canyon just north of Sedona. One A-10 crashed into the wall of the canyon killing the pilot. The they were on a low level training flight (in a rainstorm) flying from Williams Air Force Base to Davis -Monthan AFB. The pilot was identified as Capt. Stephen P. Bowden, of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, S.C. Excellent job on the model & the paint job. I've built the Tamiya kit and the Revell kit of the A-10 (did not re-scribe any panel lines). I have to admit that I like the Revell kit a bit more than the Tamiya kit. Still have the AMT/ERTL A-10 Thundrerbolt II 'Action Series' kit waiting in the stash.

I bought mine partly built but sprayed with no instructions and some bits missing. This video has proved invaluable in putting the thing together. The undercarriage is a complete pig. I am going to redo the camouflage and make it grey. It is a large kit even for 1/48. the first time I ever bought are started kit. Thank you for the video, great build. Hi Tye, you can use a scribe or a mini saw blade that will turn those panel lines into depressions instead of having raised panel lines on this A-10 kit. In this case, I used a Tamiya photo etch fine craft saw. You can lay a piece of plastic embossing tape used for lettering as a straight edge guide on the model. For part II of your question: If you look at step #9 on your instruction manual there is a better view of how C4 is supposed to sit on the landing gear parts, in particular the left man gear in this instance. Hope this all helps.

Thank you for sharing a beautiful build. I'm particularly glad that you kept your weathering to look more realistic. So the finished products, while displaying fabulous technique, look like parodies of the real thing.

Fun fact, the inboard launcher rails on stations 3 and 9 were not used long. The firing of the AGM-65 would melt the rubber of the landing gear wheel. Most A-10's now are fitted with a light load out to conserve fuel rather than a full strike package. Rounds limit switch on the GAU-8/A is always set to the limit position as well.

I like the fact that you paint your models in the 80s camo pattern rather than using the modern painting scheme where every plane is just gray. Unfortunately many kits just provide the decals for the modern paint schemes. Up unti now I haven't found decals for an F-15 with the small colored cockades to build an F-15 from the 80s era.

I was 16 (1984/85) on a school geography trip to Flamborough Head in Yorkshire. Crossing the Yorkshire Wolds on a long straight road there came flying down the road towards us were two Hogs. One either side of the road flying low. It was an experience. The rest of the class didn't have a clue what they were seeing sadly.

I think this kit was a joint effort between Tamiya and Revell Germany. What is in the Revell blue box is extremely similar. Hasegawa and Trumpeter used to have really nice kits, though. Keep up the good work!

Hi jhuntosgarage, the A-10s are certainly a staple of almost daily sightings in southern Arizona. I remember as an avionics tech that it was hard on the knees working in the gear bays usually troubleshooting WOW switches or fuel indicator issues for my F-16s. I can't imaging bringing in a power wash spray gun or hand washing gear on any military aircraft, a lot of work 😮. Thanks for your service and for watching! 😎

I am in the process of building this particular model and it is a huge pain. From the raised panel lines to the misfitting parts, there is a lot of body work to be had. I’m surprised that you didn’t mention any of this because it would be extremely obvious if the seams were not taken care of.
