Great tip for sorting the messy scattering effect. Always loved using MASH. Keeping a keen eye out for future updates to MASH. Thanks Ian

Ian, thank you for the tutorials, they are fantastic, what is more mash is fantastic too!! Can I ask, where did you get the animated figure from? Also, is it possible to convert the distributed objects to poly objects? Would be really grateful for your help on these, please.

at 13:40 when you encounter this kind of problem just double clic on the scale tool at left side and clic on reset

This is a cool fix, however, is there a similar fix for situation that is not bone driven? For example I am deforming a mesh that is being driven by nurbs curves rather than bones. thanks!

Thanks but applying the direct mesh doesnt create this effect for me, I actually have to connect the meshDeformedShape into the Mash mesh input, then it works. What am I missing?

I've been trying to get this effect working, but with footage in Maya. It sort of works, but I'm not getting the exact results i want...

The duplicate mesh workflow creates a static mesh, so you can't do anything dynamic, you lose normals so you can't orient points, and you have to recreate it and re-bind it if you want to change anything. Couldn't MASH have a separate input mesh for face sizes? You'd connect the mesh's base (orig) mesh with matching topology into it, and it'd use the corresponding face size from that mesh. That would keep the face distribution from changing as the output mesh deforms without the static in-between mesh.

hey Ian so you can plug a black and white animation to the mash node,now the only issue is i render sequence images they dont seem to load in,but the files the Lynda guy was using did work,what might be the problem,i get a "cant load...node?" error
@ianwaters60358 жыл бұрын
Could you describe what you're doing more exactly? 1. Do this, 2. Do that... I'm not sure at what point the error happens for you. Feel free to upload a project for me to look at.

I have rendered a simple clock wipe in after effects just a sequence of images .its black and white ,but whenever i try to load this sequence as an animation it pops up an error,its says it couldn't load a node. the only issue is whenever I try the image sequence from the Lynda tutorial it works,what might be wrong?
@ianwaters60358 жыл бұрын
When loading files as an image sequence you have to have the name format image.frameNumber.fileFormat, e.g., clockWipe.0001.png, otherwise Maya can't read it.

Ian, have you heard of zolloc (Instagram)? I wondered how those animations are done, and watching this, I'm starting to assume the animator's using MASH or some dynamics system.

Hey Lillian, depends which video you're talking about - I see there are some that look like nCloth / soft body stuff, and there are others that look like render tricks (animated displacement and the like) - was there a specific effect you were thinking about?

that is the error I get // Warning: Texture file C:/Users/BLOODY_ACTOR/Desktop/Adobe/Comp 1/Comp 1_00000.iff doesn't exist, node file1
