Really Digg the Maya Labs idea! Also I'd really love a Quick QnA on the inner workings of FBX and alembic. Maybe even some stuff that dives into the tech side of Mocap?

Hi Justin, Thanks for the praise. You are too kind. Can you tell me more of what you'd like to learn about Mocap? I've released a class about animating with mocap on Skillshare, but I'd like to know if there is something else I haven't covered. If you have some time could you watch this intro video and write back to me on KZbin? Thanks www.skillshare.com/classes/Character-Animation-Animate-with-Motion-Capture-in-Autodesk-Maya/1161025867

@@yonesantana Thanks for the response! Really like the look of your course, Will probably sign on and give it a watch through when I have some free time. With regards to other content, I have struggled to find any good explanations of how mo-cap works from a concept perspective. From my own deductions, I think it works by having only rotational values on a skeleton and the translational values are what define the proportions of a character? All the recourse I can find is all to do with Human IK, but nothing that really delves into the principles of what make it so functionally brilliant and modular through multiple platforms and applications. I've always learnt better by understanding how something works by doing it manually or learning the conceptual steps behind something, instead of just jumping to the tools.

Hi Justin, thanks for writing back. I'll ponder over this and see if there is something I can do to explain your question .Just a s a summary you can break down the motion capture process into 3 parts. Acquisition, where are recording the subject/actor using either a optical tracking system or a series of gyros. Clean-up where you are taking the data and making it suitable for placing on a default skeleton ( this would cover error fixing and making the data suitable for using on any character, but it normally involves software from your mocap provider) and last Motion Editing, where you take the mocap data and you adjust it to fit your character and link up multiple takes ( I cover the basics of this in my skillshare class). Cheers

Love the vids, great training. But Franklin doesn't seem to be available anywhere anymore. Does anyone know where he can be found?
@yonesantana5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I had a real dilema if I should use him for the video, but I needed a character that I could explain everything with clearly. I got my copy of him years ago, Try the link to some of the free rigs in the show notes, you can achieve the same results. Sorry it's not as easy to follow as my other tutorials.

How would you rig a character who is a naked character with layers of clothes on top? I've got a human character with a jacket, boots, jumper which are all separate pieces. I feel like I've tried every way to attach them all together so they move together as one without any problems

You can select multiple meshes in maya and add a skin deformer to the character. You can then paint the weight and influence for the skin, clothes and any accessories and they will all move together when you move the joints.
