Thank you for a great tutorial, but I have a question. I made a low poly character model, unwraped it. Now I need to export it as FBX. But in order to get good bakes for texturing it's recommended to triangulate the mesh. But a triangulated mesh is a nightmare for rigging. What to do with it? I'm really confused. I hope you can answer.
@TriggeredUnited6 жыл бұрын
You do not triangulate for a character, you just make sure that when you actually triangulate it that it doesn't give you bad topology. Since it'll be triangulated in the game engine itself. You can get equally god bakes from a quad-mesh as for a triangulated-mesh. In other words, do not triangulate it, just make sure you do not have weird quads anywhere and you will be fine. Good luck!

That is very nice and informative video mate however I have one question. I know how rigging works how to put Ik Handles and stuff but just yesterday run into problem that the Ik Handle doesnt bend (the leg in my case) like it should but towards the outside, something like a ballerina, and I don't know how to sort it out. Do you have any solution for it maybe? Some advice?
@TriggeredUnited5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! First of all, just get used to IK-handles randomly stopping to work in maya, it's been like that forever. Secondly, I'd just apply a new IK and see if that solves your problem. If not then check that the joints on the leg are actually connected and that you're applying the IK to the right joints.
@DuxDrive5 жыл бұрын
@@TriggeredUnited Well yeah I've used the skeleton automated and positioned it only. Made the skin bind with some new set of options which apparently made the binding much much more efficient and almost there was no required skinning, so i straight went for the ik handles, selecting the top and bottom of the leg, not the last one of the foot itself, but where the achilies is. You get my idea. The IK Handle was reset, rotate option set, made it twice and the leg instead bending outwards to the front, bends outwards to the side, like in some yoga exercise.
@TriggeredUnited5 жыл бұрын
Alright, then it sounds like the pivot point is off on your joints. Make sure to select them, press D, and face them forward like the knees. See if that solves the problem.
@DuxDrive5 жыл бұрын
@@TriggeredUnited That's the weird thing. I do know when I learned animating back 3 years ago and still remained with me as rule no.1 you don't rotate the pivots while setting the bones. So what I did was only translating them in space from side top and front to match the mesh center, and it was supposed to be okay but its not. I will try what you say today and will see how it goes.
@TriggeredUnited5 жыл бұрын
It's a good rule but when you use automated things the it tends to get wonky so you'll have to patch it up. Hope it solves it!

Something happens when I constraint to Orientation. My bones rotate to another place as soon as I apply the constraint. Do you know why this happens?
@TriggeredUnited6 жыл бұрын
Make sure that you have zero values on your group. (:
@kimanmusic6 жыл бұрын
Here's what I do: 1. Select group 2. Shift+click on the joint 3. P to parent (it gives some values to the group) 4. Put 0 on the group values 5. Shift + P to unparent (this action gives another set of values to the group, only the group and not the controller) After this, should I let this values stay or should I turn them to 0 again? (You didn't change any value after this) Also: 13:41 You select the shape and then Shift + click the joint, and then Orient constraint. If I do this, the bones rotate to another place, but if I select the group instead of the shape, they won't rotate to another place. Does this have any implications? (other than having to select the group whenever I want to move a bone)
@TriggeredUnited6 жыл бұрын
Your shape should never get any values. All the values you should get should be bound to your group and only the group. Try to Freeze Transform the group so it goes back to 0 and see if that help. If not, make sure that you are indeed selecting the Shape and not the Group / vice versa. It is really easy to mess that up. 13:41: Because of your group having the right rotation, angle and whatnot, when you bind it to the group it changes it's position according to those values. And of course if the values aren't identical, they will shift positioning / vice versa. But since your SHAPE does NOT have values, it does not have to shift at all. If it does indeed have values, then you'll have to redo the handle. Try doing it manually and utilize the script and see if that changes anything. Hope it helps! One little mistake at any point have enormous impact and that is infuriating. But do not give up lad!
@kimanmusic6 жыл бұрын
Ugh, this is frustrating! I'm sure I'm making a rookie mistake, but I can't rotate my shape on the same orientation you can on 9:47. It is rotating aligned to the world, instead of aligned to the shape (if that makes sense), and maybe that's why it changes position when I constraint to Orient. Maybe I created the bones the wrong way? Since you don't show on this video how you did it, I just tried to create them as close as possible. Not trying to be too much of a burden, but can you send me the file that you used on this tutorial, with the bones already in place?
