Five years ago my brother got a girlfriend, she was lovely, and they were infatuated with eachother. A few months in she was diagnosed with cancer, and he stayed with her through it all. He sang to her after chemo, and treated her like a flower. She said from the day they met that they were soul mates and meant for eachother. Two years ago they had a son, he passed away due to being premature from her cancer. Last July she was cancer free. Last September they got married. The beginning of last September, she passed away. This song couldn't represent enough to me. I had never seen love that strong and beautiful and pure. They were soul mates, in the purest and truest sense.

Well It is a weird thing but I think its a part of growing up, we know we're going to die and everyone around us will too therefore we are obviously going to think about it from time to time and it is a scary experience as its something you've never been through before and when it does happen it will change your life, maybe not loads or maybe completely, but you have to try to change your mindset once you have gotten past what i call the "numb" stage, i have been beating myself up for the past 2 months because i am almost frustrated that i will never be able to see this person again and although i know its going to take time i have to try and think about it in a better way, for example i've started thinking instead of feeling sad all the time because i've lost her, i should be grateful i even had her in my life and that i have all these memories with her, what i'm trying to say is spend as much time with the people close to you as possible because your memories of them will mean so much to you one day. I hope i helped a bit :) its a weird experience i expect we all go through.

This is how I interpret the song. A man was telling his son a story about the love of his life. He loved the girl at first sight and she loved him too. They hung out and spent all their time together and shared everything with each other. Then the man asked her to marry him. Some time passed by and (not in the lyrics but implied) they had a kid together. When the kid was young (about 1 or 2 years old) his mother got diagnosed with caner. The man felt his entire life fall to the ground. He felt that life had taken away everything that he cared about. The Corus is about how he is telling his son that life can do terrible things. And there is no way to escape it. He is telling his son that he should never fall in love because when you truly fall in love with someone, nothing will be more important to you.

Lost my husband to brain cancer after having our baby girl 11 months later! Let me tell you those 11 months was actually a miracle.
