Mayim, I want you to know how much I appreciate this broadcast. Your transparency, your quest for knowledge and what is true and meaningful, and your relationship with Jonathan, who excels in supporting you with genuine knowledge, understanding and warmth, give much needed comfort. All guests on your show are amazing . You and Jonathan are incredible speakers and, though I have an aging ADHD brain, experienced much brokeness, PTSD, and Major Depression, I stay tuned in completely through the whole episode. I have been a fan for a year or so (?) I am so grateful for you two. You have shown me that I am not unique in my feelings of inadequacy. I went back to college and received a BA in Social Science minoring in Psych and Soc. and graduating 11 years ago. This was a huge accomplishment for me as I had to choose to either work to survive or do my course work. The year I turned 50 I was almost finished when I wound up living in a barn and helping with farm animals.😧I was not able to stay focused on my education in the unstable environment, lost my fafsa as a result of not keeping up with courses, joined Americorps, earned $ to live on and money to pay for a quarter of college courses I needed to fulfill my science requirements, then was able to have fafsa reinstated, and return to WSU to complete my degree. Prior to returning to college I experienced, as my therapist once told me, layers of trauma. Marriage and children, which I had thought would bring a blissful life, brought much more grief as I experienced emotional battering while married to alcoholics and tragic events with my children including Kidney Disease, brain damage at birth, accidental shooting and death involving my son and step son, drug addiction and induced Paranoid Schizophrenia. These occurred among all three of my children and have caused lifelong grief and suffering. I am a survivor, yes, but have never been able to overcome the feeling of not being able to measure up. I was broken to pieces emotionally. That has kept me from achieving a career that is satisfying intellectually and emotionally. I love learning. Listening to lectures has been my passion for many years. I have had a subscription with Audible since it started I believe. My focus was on learning about the brain and the "mind". Since I still didn't feel competent to make a difference, I recently thought that if I had attained a neuroscience education I would be in a more secure realm. Then I met you by way of You Tube. Today's guest settled this for me. I'm not sure that my brokeness can be overcome completely (I've worked hard in therapy with some very good PHD therapists for several years) but the idea of looking at myself, focusing on one eye sounds like it may be beneficial and I do intend to try it. Also, not 'feeling' like we need to live up to standards of how we were raised to think, and living in the consequences of the critical judgement put on us, but rather, loving ourselves for who we are and what is important to us, is an exponentially salubrious quest we should all be encouraged to follow. I reall appreciate your understanding of the difficulty involved in making leaps from life's insurmountable disparity to the other side. I may not make it but I can have hope and keep trying, thanks to you and your brilliance and sacrifice to air this show. I just can't express how much you, Jonathan, your guests, this show, have meant to me. Maybe I will take a leap of faith and see what happens.🌈💙🙆♂️💙🌈 Take care....💪fighting💪

Watching (m. 28:55) Vishen explaining his “click” suicide thoughts while dealing with too much anxiety & too much stress, even while a successful moment of his life, has helped myself a bit to try to understand why my brother, a professionally successful middle aged man, suddenly comitted suicide few years ago. A bit of weight has been removed from my soul. A bit that is a handful. And it's thanks to you both Mayim & Jonathan.💜🙏🏼

Three big lessons of today’s episode, everyone a motto itself: “Love yourself as if your life depends on it” “Creating your life as a unique masterpiece” “You have to protect your hapiness first” And a plus: Today I’ve learnt a new word (I’m not English native)! It’s “unfuckwithable” that in my language can be translated as “imbatible”, more or less.🙏🏼

I think Vishen's approach to living and loving one's life is ideal. Generally speaking, it's doable. What it might not take into consideration is the external stuff we are bombarded with as we grow into adulthood. It appeals to me so much, but for individuals like me, with anxiety and a whole mess of other mental challenges, it would be extremely difficult. I haven't read the book, mind you. This is going solely by this conversation. I agree with Mayim, though. He was incredibly articulate, and certainly took into consideration his audience by referencing the science that supports his ideas. Thanks guys, for as always, broadening my horizon. :)

I love Vishen because I can identify with his pain from the past, i myself was a crippling shy person and it was always reinforced that I stay well in the background to be accepted and thats who I was for years until I took (I took it twice) a eight week course in Self Esteem and started valuing myself after not being able to smile for two years and suddenly finding myself again :)

After living a fairly bumpy road I've come to see that everything is made of photons. That includes love which is both selfish and selfless. The selfish love becomes greed, lust, hate because the person loves themselves more. Selfless love becomes caring, sharing, hope. Both expand beyond the body in an electrical field which interacts with others changing the polarity and or enhancing/ charging the base. So be selfless and play.

Absolutely LOVED this episode! Love Vishen..have been following him and his Mind Valley teachings for years! I just want to say that a lot of what he teaches is about finding your bliss...if that means you're creating a product or service great, if that means you're a plumber...wonderful but find the joy in your life! I was in a very dark place five years ago and started to do the mirror technique of self love. At first I felt so silly but over time it became a mantra I expanded on and still use today. When you fill your cup with self love just think what you can create❤❤❤

I'm studying cloud computing and that's not what I want, but with the economy of my country and with the fear of disappointing my parents, I have to persevere😔....... Unlike other commenters, I had a very strong negative reaction to his "Masterpiece Self" mindset. I felt like he used the word "Masterpiece" because of the feelings that word envokes, without actually reflecting on or thinking about what makes something a "Masterpiece." Also, I'm pretty sure the artist of the work doesn't get to declare it a Masterpiece. I probably could have gotten over his use of such value-ladden term metaphorically, until he used "Photocopy" as the opposite of Masterpiece. There was so much cognitive dissonance throughout his explanations, particularly any time he referred to the notion as a binary personal choice. Are you a Masterpiece or Photocopy? Personally, I think of myself as a unique collage of different photocopies (e.g., people), because aren't we just essentially a culmination of our experiences and the people who influence us. I'm not an exact replica of anyone, but rather a unique combination of everyone.

Ok so 2 things about this. If my day didn't start until 10 or 11 it would inspire the suicidal overwhelming thoughts. I do my best thinking between 7 and 1030. I'm a morning person so the structure he set forth -like anything- isn't for everyone. By 5 pm I should be the only one in my space. He's mistaking running for a physical activity. In one episode I don't remember what it was Mayim on her meditation soapbox and she says running IS meditation for some people. The only thing (an uninsured poor person who has no actual MH resources) that even scratches the surface of my anxiety is running every day. And I'm not alone in that. Who cares what it does to your body in the long run? Isn't that the means vs end argument on its own? And let me guess- a naturally skinny person says 30 minutes exercise a week is fine?

I'm with you Mayim. I over protected my daughter. Now she's almost 23 and won't talk to me except to be rude. I'm so confused. And old.

Yes to work hours being shorter! I'm a waitress and I work 30 hours MAX. Just the other day a coworker was asking why I didn't work more and actually looked confused when I tried to explain that 40 hours makes me feel like crap and it's not worth it. 😅 like I'm sorry, but I'd rather get more rest and buy less stuff. Oh wow I feel way better about my lack of exercise now. Work does more for me than his plan

@@stingsting1132 I'm never going to try anything sold by "dr. Moses", because I don't appreciate this advertising strategy 😀

Just before he started talking about the lawyers, I was thinking, why isn't this guy in sales? He talks like he's in sales. Then we learned he was in telemarketing. He IS in sales. He is selling the ideas of other people he has studied. I heard no new ideas here, just reminders. Not a bad thing. Just my observation.

Not my favorite episode. Vishen has many many ideas without deep thought, discussion or experience of background.

Well if he's named after Lord Vishnu then his parents did the right thing cos he's the protector of the world. Trimurthy are Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar. Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the protector or administrator and Lord Shiva or Maheshwara is the Lord of destruction.

Vishen - your name is a derivation of Vishnu, the Hindu god of perserverance, not the god of destruction (facepalm)
