How strange it must be for a creature that has lived its entire life in absolute darkness and then suddenly for a brief time they can see in the illumination of an ROV.

if their eyes are meant to pick up the faintest light, do they go blind from moment like these? It seems like their staring into the sun, metaphorically.

Our researchers have some anecdotal evidence that the majority of the animals' eyes recover after they return to their normal dark environment.
@JamesLamb2 жыл бұрын
I was just watching a video about SCUBA lighting courtesy which said in areas where divers are common, predator fish have learned to grab prey that has been temporarily blinded. For research, maybe someone could invent a camera that does a less intrusive laser-thin sweep with each color separately and capture each color as it sweeps instantaneously instead of shining a continuous white beam. Of course on land, a red beam is used since many nocturnal creatures ? can't see this wavelength ?
@JH-pt6ih2 жыл бұрын
Is there any information on the fish anywhere? For instance, what are the two little eyes or nostrils in between the big eyes? Or what is latched onto some of the fish? Some of those are very sad looking fish!
