Maybe Kyle and Kenneth had switch bodies. That’s why Kenneth (now a wolf) was struggle so much in the winter, not just because food is scarce but he doesn’t yet know how to Wolf. Kyle (the now human) likes his new human lifestyle and is afraid Kenneth will try to take his new life away from him but doesn’t want to straight up murder his former self.

As someone who spends a lot of time helping out at a professional wildlife shelter, this story is actually pretty depressing. Feeding wild animals is how we end up with animals needing to be put down. Your coyote isn't your specific friend, he's just associating "human" with food. When he ends up at another person's house and doesn't get the meal he expects, he will get violent, and because of that, euthanized. It's actually distressingly common.
