Bacon/ Boerewors, eggs, fried tomato, fried mushrooms and lastly toast with appelkoos konfyt and a lot of butter. 3. Ouma beskuit or your Ouma se beskuit. I grew up in Soweto and my favourite South African breakfast will always be fermented sorghum porridge with tons of sugar. My late grandma used to make if for us and it's heavenly. Sadly, I have not had this in years. On the weekends (and when we were in the mood), my family would have scrambled eggs, fried vienna sausage, french polony or russian sausage with some baked beans. This was normally eaten with plain bread (hence the plain bread buns in the McDonald's breakfast). Not big on coffee so the preferred beverage for me was rooibos tea with sugar and coffee creamer or juice. A typical South African breakfast is either a maize or oat porridge with sugar, butter and milk, some kind of commercial cereal like corn flakes with milk, amagwinya/vetkoek either plain or with sides or a hot breakfast of some sort with fried or boiled eggs, bread/toast and any variety of sides. Beverages are typically coffee, tea or juice.

I'd say the best example of a South African breakfast is at Mugg&Bean (a sit-down casual chain). It's two eggs, bacon, boerewors, grilled tomato, a hash brown, and toast with the option of adding a sweetcorn fritter (which I'd argue might be more "traditional than a hash brown, in the same way an American breakfast would be more traditional with a Johny cake), peri peri chicken livers (don't diss it til you try it - amazing hangover food), and/or a small steak.

Hi Sonny, I am so Glad you are in South Africa and I am currently working on a documentary detailing the Spices and the different cuisines brought in by the 1860 Indentured Laborers and the medicinal value of the spices used in modern day. I am based in Durban so if you are here, would love you to join us and try some of the best Indian Cuisine here and give your viewers a brief history lesson on the Indian Culture here in South Africa. Hope to hear from you soon!!!

In all honesty as a South African 😂😂😂I've only just realised that our McD uses a lot of tomato sauce 🥫it's not called ketchup here we as the people call it tomato sauce 😂😂😂😂, personally I prefer eating grilled meat and pap (chisa nyama) you should try it it's really good and filling😋😋

Yes! The McMuffin and the Foldover are my favorite. I remember when I was a kid and McDonald's came to South Africa. Their food was really bland and the burgers were really dry but, they've come along way since then. My favorite place has become Burger King.

Sonny we have a big British influence in our food. So our breakfast normallly is egg (however you like it) with baked beans, fried tomato, sometimes fried mushrooms or a fried banana. Bacon and with our without flap jacks and maple serup. Served with toast or fries. Yum! But on other days I also love a classic eggs bennedict, with or without the baked beans on the side lol

You should have gone to Spur or Wimpy for a traditional breakfast, going to McDonalds in South Africa is like going to the worst junk food. Another thing to try is an oxtail potjie which is the best potjie to have. In Cape Town you should try a gatsby because that is where it originated not to mention the different options you get. The best one has always been in Grassy Park. Not to mention the curries and the fish and chips found in Durban as well as Cape Town. Had you have asked me I could have helped with idea's because I love eating and cooking food.

South African hood breakfast usually consists of fat cakes, palony, cheese, special(palony like pork), mangola(palony like fish sausage), atchar, then slap chips... On weekends if you had a lot to drink the previous evening, we mostly prefer what we call 'inyama yentloko', addable for any time of day preferably for hang overs💯

We had in Ontario, Canada a "big breakfast" scrambled egg, sausage patty, English muffin, hashbrown, jam and or PB. It was my favorite breakfast menu item. When the covid times hit the "streamlined" the menu for health and safety reasons, I still await the day that it returns. They also had back in the day a "big big breakfast" same as above with hotcakes and syrup added
@kaymarie97122 жыл бұрын
I also live in Toronto..and compared to other countries the "big breakfast" is trash..it not even great to begin with..I would rather hit up any other hreakfast spot in the city (which will definetly taste better and bigger portions)

Why I don't eat McD's or why the videos make me glad I don't? The answer to both is health, cost and I can do it better for less and feed more. This channel has helped understand how to apply fermentation and ingredients to my everyday life. After a tick bite that almost killed me I can't eat much that hasn't been prepared properly so everything fast food and restaurants sell makes my illness worse.

A South African breakfast is quite similar to a traditional English breakfast but often includes more meat. You’ll typically find bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, and grilled tomatoes, but it’s common to add meats like boerewors, steaks, or even lamb chops, depending on preference. Many people also enjoy pap or fried potatoes as a side.
