McFarlane Mandarin Spawn Gold Label Walmart Exclusive Action Figure Review

I was lucky enough to run across the new McFarlane Toys Gold Label Mandarin Sawn at my local Walmart! I had cancelled my pre-order, preferring the red version, but when I saw it in-person I knew I had to give a test drive.

Awesome review of a damn cool figure. With the recent price hike in action figures, I'm all about the McFarlane Toys products. Even over, I dare say, the Black Series. I'll pause here for heated chastisement.

They messed up with the paint jobs on the new ones. It seems like with the new ones they are only letting the sculpt bring all the details out where as the og one had the great sculpt as well but they added a fantastic paint job to push the detail even farther making everything just pop

I am going to get the red one personally, but the fwoosh blue looks great! Though articulation is not key, I think the sculpt makes up for it. Thanks for the video Robo!

Since the articulation isn't that great, I'll just stick with my original 90's Mandarin Spawn figure.😊 That thing was so good, I made it the subject of a paper in my art appreciation class.

Looks pretty similar to the original Mandarin Spawn, which I have lurking in a storage bin somewhere. I remember loving the look of the figure when I was younger and being just as underwhelmed by the articulation back then. then you realize it's more of a display piece than it is an "action" figure.

McFarlane has made "huge strides" towards modern articulation but Todd is still stuck in the past. His figures are still hunks of non-playable plastic. I know how he feels about that but his own idea of what his figures are is exactly what's keeping the figures outdated.

The details are amazing and beautiful. McFarlane Toys always have nice details, and they improved a lot on articulations over the years. But yeah, this is not really meant for movement. I assume this is a powerful Spawn figure with the traditional Chinese power axe; so, he doesn't need to move. People are going to move out of the way! But yeah, red and gold are much better than blue and silver.

Great review! The only Spawn related figure that I have in my collection is the Viking Age "Skullsplitter" MOC. This is one that has an interesting overall design.

I've got the original red and green versions, and was excited to get this one last week. I wish this one had the two swords with the scabbard contraption that could plug into the original's waste, but I think it's an awesome looking figure and now I'm going to have to dig out the others and work on a display.

The upcoming red Mandarin Spawn actually has slightly different sculpt work and paint scheme which makes a good yin and yang pairing if you get both figures.

I had the original Mandarin spawn last year. Like yourself, I was impressed with the one my friend had. And the moment I had the figure in my hands, I was disappointed. I couldn't sell it off fast enough. I guess action is very important for me. It just felt like a glorified statue, and it gets boring to look at really fast

I plan to get all Three... Gold, Scarlett, and Deluxe version...the issues that bother me, is the paint apps...it's very noticeable in the back of the figures, comparison to the old ones to new ones...they got corporate cheap on the paint apps
