McKenzie Method: Retraction in Lying

This is a commonly required McKenzie exercise for the relief of neck pain, that may or may not refer into the shoulder blade and arm.
The lying or unloaded position can be more effective than Retraction done in sitting or standing, and sometimes in difficult cases is the only position in which symptoms first start to centralize or reduce.
Symptoms should remain better or more centralised after performing the exercise to indicate it is correct for you.
You should only perform this exercise under the guidance of a fully qualified McKenzie practitioner to ensure you understand the exercise and ensure it is appropriate for your condition.

Great video! I've been diagnosed to performed this exercise by my physical therapist. Could you advise how to do it when you don't have a stretcher? the fact is that I've been doing it on my bed but its surface retracts with my weight on it and my back bends backwards so I don't have a plain surface as in the video. Thanks!!

Hey I did this but with flexion for a neck workout and i gave myself severe insomnia and pain. No pain now but tension headaches and still cant sleep. What could have happened?

is this exercis good for forward head and straight posture

it is for relief of pain. Usually poor posture with the head forward contributes to developing the problem
