After cold calling for IT services for over 10 years the #1 downside to cold calls is NOT Rejection, it's making X number of dial's daily and only getting maybe 1 or 2 people on the phone. Once you get that person on the phone, it's then having the mental energy to actually be able to have an intelligible conversation. Today, cold calling is an increased amount of work for much less payoff compared to even 5 years ago.

No Nonsense No Blue Sky No Tony Robins Schtick... Great Job Marc... You tell it exactly the way it is and should be.... The problem is that most reps are "askared" to make a call because they feel like they are bothering the prospect... I don’t if he talks about it in this video, but the line “did I get you at a bad time?” WORKS! Vets interest in the product or service out of the gate
@ruchieru4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I agree with that. Those kind of lines start you on a lower level (gives the tone that you're asking them for a favour by them giving you their time, rather than the tone that you WANT to set, which is you're doing them a favour by solving a problem for them through your solution). And saying that allows your prospect to have an excuse to end the call prematurely.
@ruchieru4 жыл бұрын
Also depends on your sales style, but I don't always want to vet interest right out of the gate. I want to help them realize they DO have an interest even when they don't at the very beginning. Especially for a customer profile that I know is perfect for my product: has the problem, has the budget.

Love this video, guys! To add value, here's something which I know needs to be addressed to make cold calling successful. A lot of cold callers are not checking first whether the phone numbers and people they try to call match. We've seen cold callers that are being hung up due to prospecting mismatch. Worst, people get angry at them. This usually happens to businesses or people who buy leads from unverified sources. Data get outdated or totally incorrect from the beginning. So, to avoid this silly mistake, it's either you clean up and update your list using a data append tool. Or, use a reverse phone number lookup to check the phone number owner's name and match it with the name in your database.
@vincent_hall3 жыл бұрын
Not trying to detract from the video, just for my notes: Summary: 1. They can’t hurt me 2. Make it a game 3. Be willing to take risks. (higher level of success, less painful. Don’t fear mistakes.) 4. Warm it up as much as possible. (Warm up the prospect so they know who I am.) 5. Script out the entire call: (TV shows and movies are scripted and practised many times.) 6. Know my first 7 seconds cold. (by heart they buy me the next 25 seconds, then I have to keep buying/winning the next 25 seconds of each call. “Hi

I was in a senior buying position for years and I totally resent salespeople cold calling me. I guess the reasons are: 1 Scams are overwhelming nowadays. A cold caller are immediately stereotyped as a scammer whenever I see unknown numbers. 2 Salepeople are mostly selling undifferentiated products. 3 I know the supply base too well and very profound with products in my industry. It comes to the extent the salesperson usually feel dispair after listening to my analysis about their product offer. 4 I can easily find them at trade shows, through my contacts and some time online. 5 It always interrupt me when I receive cold calls and that puts me off.

chocksaway100 Hi Chocksaway I'm from South Africa so I'm not too sure where you hail from but I really just applied for the role in an established wine merchants company the selling of wine over the phone is growing big time so I'm sure many companies similar to mine will be looking for hungry sales people. If you don't know much about wine, relax you'll really develope a passion for it especially since tasting wine everyday is a requirement. If you looking to do it privately, this is tricky because you'll need a license to sell vino but you could do well if you can find good boutique wine makers to allow you to exclusively sell their wines for them at my company, independent boutique wine makers apply for us to represent them. I definitely recommend pursuing a career selling wine, more and more people are realizing it is a luxury they can afford. I wish could be of more help, good luck with your endeavor!

Bring a report on their industry or some case studies that aren’t easily found online too. Even better if you customize it directly to their business - with the internet you can dig up some great insights specifically about them. The more relevant the better chance you have. You’re already spending time physically being there, might as well give yourself the best chance to win (and your prospect too for that matter) 👌🏽
@AlexanderMoen4 жыл бұрын
You should have an idea of the industry you're approaching, what their buying process is, why they would buy from you, and the name or position of the person who would be involved in the buying process. Don't get nervous or treat it as something weird. If you've got a useful product or service and you know they could benefit from it and who (even if only a position) would see that value, just start reaching out.

This is amazing and super helpful to me. Having left the Military World and entered into the private corporate leadership development & training, I honestly can say the landscape of the corporate environment baffled me. Initially we leveraged our connections from the Special Operations Community to gain access to business and we are having some good success with tactical and law enforcement training but we really want to break into the corporate world. Unfortunately we don’t have much of a network to leverage there so after much frustration we’ve realized we need to just start aggressively pursuing business opportunities through tried and true practices like cold calling to generate leads. I realize we should have been doing this from the start but a lot of great lessons are written in failures I guess. So long winded comment just to say thank you for this video and I’ll be studying the rest of your videos intently, not just for content, but also delivery. You’ve already identified several mistakes I’ve been making (talk too much about our program, going into the pitch too soon, probably a little to passionate, etc). So thank you.

"When your not afraid of making that mistake, is when good things happen” ...... this is his exact quote and most probably the ONLY thing he ever had to say!!!!! He couldn’t have hit the nail on the coffin better: Let that sink into everyone’s brains!! Well done dude .... PS: That was hilarious when you spoke about a callers 'personal safety' ... It’s amazing how scared people really get. It’s also amazing how they chose sales in the first place lol

I want to implement the tip "how have you been" sadly enough in the Dutch language there is no such saying. We just use "How are you".. I'll think of ways to implement the other tips, great video Marc!

I'd be interested to learn what a useful saying would be, for engaging in English with each of Dutch, German, French prospects...

Hi Marc - thanks for the incredible tips. Ask questions and get them talking about the challenges they face was the most poignant tip! And it a game of numbers. I just started cold calling and this information was pertinent to the point that I’m at in my sales. Thanks so much. Cheers Rick

I have something to offer I have gift gab was born with it. Basically I chat with everyone like I've known them all my life. It's just natural you just flow like your in presence of your buddies. Shooting the shit catching up on old times. Random topics I complain alot when I get nervous my voice jumps. My friend when he lies his voice gets quieter. I never read people I just don't care as I am people watcher

Hey Evans, to answer your question...try downloading Breezler on the app store. It will get you in touch with prospects via a warm intro. Best sales tool that I know of.

While Cold Calling, People irritatedly ask, "WHERE DID YOU GET MY NUMBER FROM?" It's highly difficult and upsetting to answer this question. How should we courageously encounter this question ? Please advise.

I think they are all very useful techniques I took note..I been running my business now for two years and marketing has been the hardest for me I work solo with a mobile welding shop and just now learning to be more of a owner than worker I love what I do but have to learn this aspect of things and it’s hard thanks for the info I paid very close attention and look forward to hearing more

Awesome. I would like to hear more about the "first 7 seconds", What must I put in there? Like somebody noted, "how have you been" is not translatable into some cultures/languages.

A rep of mine told me that he walked into a donut shop. He asked if he could talk to the owner behind the counter for about 30 seconds (he was using some other strategy other than how I trained him). The owner walked around the counter to hear him out. He was about a sentence into his pitch when the owner raised his hand in the stop position and then pointed to the door. He called me, dejected, and asking for help. I told him that happens about 5% or less of the time.
