I love the difference Dale's videos are from all other turkey hunting videos. This past 4 years I have more success due to the things I learned watching and listening to him. Watching turkeys get shot doesn't teach anything. Keep up the great work Dale!

Thanks for your help with mouth calls, have pretty much relied on my box call with a little success. But you have shown me the need for getting more able to call closer in with a mouth call. We enjoy your videos and open simplicity!! Thanks brother and may the Lord bless you!

I went back and forth calling with a gobbler last year who would not move for about an hour. Ended up trying to flank him, with no luck. I wish I would have thought to "throw" the call behind me. Probably would have came in. Great tips!

Great tips! I’ve been hunting turkeys for over 30 years and still forget sometimes to ratchet down the calling when a long beard is on the way in.

Good stuff. If you have a specific opening that you want him to come through as well, you can steer him in a certain direction at times by throwing your sound!

What are you calling a small piece of land? I have about 1200 acres to hunt but we have it broken into sections and we are allowed to sign out on 2 sections at a time. That equals between 100 and 200 acres.

Great information like always. I haven't mastered the mouth call yet so I'll be using my box and glass pot call. If you could go over the four phases of Turkey hunting using them. That would greatly be appreciated as well. Thank you for all the awesome videos and I'll definitely be using your tactics here in Alabama.

40 yds is good range to take a shot. 50yds - it depends. One day I had a huge tom which came out of woods 70 yds away from me and together with a hen. He was strutting and fanning his tail. I was sitting in my ambush behind of a fallen tree watching them through my binocular and thinking how to get him closer. There was drainage ditch and some brush between us and around 25 yds away from me. There were not much leaves yet and couple of windows in that brush line. The hen was ignoring his boy, doing her own business by walking and picking something over the ground. I decided to call slightly louder than medium then noticed that I picked tom's attention. Tom stopped his strut and moved couple of step not straight to me but rather rightward looking curious. )) I made a 1-1.5min pause while watching him then called softer, somewhat like Dale explains his "phase 2". The guy started looking like he doesn't really want to leave his gf, but the other distant girl is so interesting to check her out. )) He was moving very slow steps but this time rightward and forward diagonal toward the bigger window in the brush line. I had LongBeard XR shot preloaded into my a400 and was already aiming through that window. I called once again same way or a bit softer (I use mouth call ) The turkey was moving painfully slow sometime stopping and hesitating. The hen was keeping doing her business, not giving a sh.t about what's going on. Three minutes later tom stopped right at the edge of the vision line through that bigger window then pulled only his neck to look out )). I felt that he won't get closer than that, so I pulled my trigger. The hen flew away promptly. I got out of my ambush and while I walked up to my turkey he stopped moving. It was mature 25LB tom. I calculated the distance and it was 55yds. I think it was the "LongBeard XR" which made that long shot possible. But I won't take such a long shot anymore. The down side of this ammunition is that it doesn't really open the pattern during first 10 yds. The other day I had a turkey which came out from a side and only about 8 yds away from me. I took a shot and missed! So at 8yds that shot was flying like a slug, this is why I missed the turkey head. This spring I will be hunting turkey with my OU. One of my barrels will be TKY + LongBeard XR 3" #5, the other one - Mod and a regular "Heavy Game" #5 2-3/4" shot.

If the reeds of a mouth call arent "tight" or flat all the way across, are they worn out and time for a new call? Can, or do they typically, get a wave look to them? 3rd yr turkey hunting, i feel like my call (notes) should be better than they are. Ive only ever used 2 mouth calls though. A basic primos, now i have a tom teaser- butt naked hen.
