The lead singer, Justin Hayward, wrote this when he was 19 years old. This was released in 1967. This concert was in 2000. I’m 70 years old, and I love how KZbin is bringing different generations together over music❤️

When this album came out. Critics said that it was 15 years ahead of it's time. 55 years later and it's still ahead of it's time. I've seen them live twice. ✌️

Message from a 59 year old who just came across your channel with this video. You're right. This is pure. Real instruments. Real voices (no autotune). This song was released when I was 2. Trust me, this is a song that will fill and heal your soul for the rest of your life. My understanding is that the singer wrote the song when he was around 19 about a girl he loved, but didn't approach. However, they ended up marrying later on.

Since this came up on my feed again, do make sure you throw on some headphones and listen to this again. Any of our music from 60's-70's, the mixing, and the finished product listened to on headphones, was what it was all about back then, unless you had the cash for a top of the line stereo system with huge speakers 🎧😊

I feel so sorry for the generations of young people who followed us Boomers. We knew great music without “auto-tune”, whatever that even means. We were blessed to have true musicians, talented singers, songwriters, true artists. They went into their record labels studios, recorded their masterpieces and went home. The 60s and 70s truly were the Golden Age of music. I have to say I miss it.

And if you have played saxophone before, I Beg you - get yourself an instrument! Start putting those pennies away until you can get something nice. There are groups, like Supertramp, Gerry Rafferty, Chicago, Pink Floyd, and others that will give you plenty of inspiration. Lets not forget the fact that these guys are all in their 70's and still rocking it. Im 65 and music from my error was just that music, not this pretend, no talent garbage today they try to pass off as music. The music from the 60-s - early 80's music rocked! 70's music was all about love and bringing people together,!! Great reaction brother!

We used to listen to Moody Blues in the early 1970s after a long LSD trip and mellowing out. There was a HUGE variety of musical Talent and you could experience it on many levels. People didn't "aways" need to listen to harder rock although it had its place. Music was a wonderful way to get in touch with yourself and your emotions.

I think there has to be more to it than just that. I'm not sure what the reactor thought was the "double meaning", but, for me, the meaning of the song is a bit ambiguous. Key lyrics are "letters I've written, never meaning to send" and "just what I'm going through, they can't understand". It might be about a brief sexual relationship (nights in white satin) that meant so much more to one party (the singer) than the other lover, followed by the mental torment of the other lover not being interested in a deeper, longer term relationship? That would seem to fit the lyrics, more or less. Art is usually ambiguous, however!

My all-time favourite *Moody Blues* album is called: "To Our Children's Children's Children" ...and it _actually_ _starts_ the first song - "Higher and Higher" (written by Graeme Edge, the Moody Blues drummer - R.I.P) - on 'side one' with the 'full-throated roar' and *loud* sound of the Apollo_11 Rocket engines as it took off heading for the Moon 🚀- 🇺🇸 🎵 ... (Taking _3_ American astronauts* to land on the Moon in July 1969. *Michael Collins* piloted the 'mothership' which orbited the Moon, whilst his 2 colleagues *Edward 'Buzz' Aldrin* and *Neil Armstrong* went down in the 'Lander' part of the spaceship. *Neil* was the first man to step down the ladder of the _Lander_ - which was named 'Eagle' - and told 'NASA' (in Houston, Texas) 'back home' on the Earth, who were in charge of the Mission... "Houston, the Eagle has landed" ... As *Neil Armstrong* stepped off the last rung of the ladder, and onto the surface of the Moon, he said, as he did so, "This is one step for man, one giant leap for Mankind" ) 😊🇺🇸❤ ... The rest of the song, and the other songs are all _beautifully_ written and performed, and are "space-related" in their lyrics, all inspired by the time (1960's) and adventures in exploring our Moon by the 6 various Apollo Moon Missions: ('Apollo_11', 'Apollo_'12', - but _not_ 'Apollo_13', which had a "serious and life-threatening problem", and so sadly had to abort their Mission and return to Earth instead of going to the Moon - then, 'Apollo_14,' 'Apollo_15', 'Apollo_16' and finally, 'Apollo_17'). ... _Apollo_ was the series of Mission names, - and each crew member (astronaut) wore a specifically designed 'badge' stating his 'Mission name and Number' - the Numbers were each _individual_ Mission, and the _actual_ 'Rockets'🚀 which launched each 'Mothership and Lander' to the Moon, were, I believe, actually called the 'Saturn_5' Rockets.🚀🇺🇸🎵♥️ (Sorry, 'History Lesson' over!! I'm _70_ 😮 now, and so I tend to remember a _fair_ bit of this stuff - though not all - and so I await _polite_ correction for any bits I might've got wrong?!! 😊)

@@theadviser123 I share your fondness for 'Gypsy' and am hard pressed to not agree with it being my own favourite song ...but I've always been drawn to 'Watching and Waiting' as it has a kind of wistfulness, which I cannot easily explain... It always makes me think of 'Moonwatcher' - the 'pre-dawn man-ape' creature from Stanley Kubrick's much celebrated (& my own favourite) film '2001, A Space Odyssey' ...and Justin's haunting line, "I hope it won't be very long" ... reminds me of 'Moonwatcher's' thought,that he "didn't know what to do ...but he would think of something" 🤔❤️🙂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌟❤️🖖

Thanks for reviewing this. I have been with you on Ren reactions lately and I was pleasantly surprised to see you shift gears to review this. Ren is a great new Artist no doubt and I have enjoyed your reactions. This song was a major hit back in the early 70s when I was a teen. Great and enduring song by a sometimes overlooked band from the 60s and 70s heyday. Some other songs by them are “Question of Balance”, “Tuesday Afternoon” and “Story in Your Eyes”, “Ride my See Saw” to name a few.

Lol, I'm on a similar track as a Renegade and an old Moody Blues (and metal and prog) fan. I also grew up in the 1960's and '70's, and am now happy to see young artists like Ren and reactors like MDreeezy open up to the deeper and more authentic layers of music. Back in the early 2000's I had the great pleasure of seeing the Moody Blues perform outdoors in Albuquerque. They didn't have a full orchestra behind them, but they didn't really need it. The whole experience was magical and mystical. 🤠

Your interpretation of this song is correct. He lost a woman he loved and she gave him a parting gift of white satin sheets. Yes, when he watched other people hand in hand, he knew they couldn't understand how he was feeling. My favorite song by them is Gypsy. It is a very deep, thought provoking, soulful kind of song. Justin the lead singer wrote the song in a single day. His girl at the time had just broken up with him. As a parting gift she gave him a set of white satin sheets hence the title. This is the climax to the album Days Of Future Past. This particular concert was at thee Royal Albert Hall in 1991. The album came out in 1967. Justin had the same powerful vocals back then but even more with his maturity. Yes the album was recorded with an orchestra. To start the group used a mellotron which gave them an orchestral feel. At the time of the production their production company had hired an orchestra for a different project. That fell through. Then someone said we spent the money why not use them on the album. At the time this was a risky proposition. But then tried it. The lightning struck gold. Do your self a favor listen to the album to really get the feel. It Is worth it.

Since I'm almost 70 years old I don't think I'll be going to any rap concerts, Heck I didn't go to any concerts when I was young, too many people for me. This song has been on my playlist every day since it first came out though and I've heard it at least once a day since then! I have to say though that you are really missing out by not wearing headphones! You miss little things that you cannot hear with speakers. Try it you'll like it! FABULOUS reaction to the Moody Blues. This was my brother, Court's, favorite band. He passed away three years ago. He was on a pacemaker and only 15% of his heart worked and he was on a donor list. I bought him tickets for his birthday in his thirties. He was working on a car on jacks and an idiot "friend" kept sitting inside the car. My brother yelled at him to stop. He wouldn't, so my brother started to get from under the car, and he started to hear creaking as he was laying sideways, and the car came down and twisted his spine. Even in excruciating pain, HE MADE THE CONCERT!!! I worked event security and REALLY TRIED TO GET HIM BACKSTAGE. He was HAPPY ANYWAY and kept yelling, "OWW!" as tears of JOY streamed down his face as he clapped wildly. WE WERE LAUGHING and I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MOMENT. 👏🎉😂 I woke up around 1:45 CST and am sitting here laughing in my bed as I LITERALLY FEEL the lung cancer tha spread to up my spne and into my brain, MELTING away as I talk to him. We are connected SPIRITUALLY. NO LIE. I AM ASTOUNDING DOCTORS AT VANDERBILT AND I WILL PUT TOGETHER PROGRAMS AND PACKAGES FOR CANCER PATIENTS TO BE BETTER INFORMED THAT ANYONE CAN GET IT WITH NO HISTORY AT ALL. I have come face to face with so many SURVIVORS who ARE CANCER FREE. MITACLES DO HAPPEN!!! 💫💥🙌

Try John Farnham singing the Beatles song "Help" with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Recoded in 1989. He Recoded the studio version in about '79 or '80, but this is the best live version, and John is always better live.

This was performed in Prince Albert Hall in England. Justin Heywood wrote this song after a girlfriend gave him a gift of white satin sheets. Its a song of unrequited love.

That was Amazing. I think that was their most famous hit. Although there was many. Your Wildest Dreams was another great song. Most concerts back in the 70s were pretty cool. Having a flutist play, along with a full orchestra was quite revolutionary when it first came out in the nineteen seventies. It was quite a vision to work this out and manifest it in a live concert. the metal things are chimes So glad you got to hear them. Suggest looking into the entire album "Days of Future Passed" to see how it begins at dawn and ends with the nights in white satin (smooth silky bed sheets)

As one who was there when this music was released you can't know how moving it is that this generation has people like you who realize the specialness of this music. It's amazing. I was just a kid who loved this and somehow it is wonderful that you love it too.

Love your appreciation for music that sounds just as great live as on the album/ CD / whatever …. These are true musicians without mastering and vocalists with nothing like auto tune …. It’s really amazing to see live. This song which is Live from Red Rocks is iconic

The Moody Blues are similar to Pink Floyd in that their albums weren’t just 12 random songs. Their albums are a story and each song is a page in the story. This song is from the album Day of Future Passed. On the album when this song gets to the crescendo at the end it includes a poem called the Late Lament that ties a bow on the album. I believe this video was from a concert they did in Montereu.
