Wow. Only one comment on this video? I'm an American who lives in the Southern United States and for some reason I've become quite the anglophile. Even in my anglophile friends I'm the only one who's ever heard of Jonathan Meades. He's like a constantly pissed off Elton John who takes his smugness and criticism to a beautiful level. I've watched most everything available on KZbin and sometimes I'll realize that he hasn't really said anything and some of his videos. I still enjoy them even when they come off as a bit pointless. I don't know how popular he is in England and I can't imagine that he's popular with the regular working classes but I'm sure he has his audience. He has no audience here.

Meades always ends up on BBC4, a kind of mediocre public service arts channel that no one watches. Middle class people who liked him when they were young find him 'uncouth' as they get older, but they're in constant revolt with themselves and everyone else. Working class people on the right don't like his disdain for nostalgia, 'roots', and nationalism. He seems to find a way to offend everyone.

Im working class and I think he's fantastic and has improved my lexicon exponentially

​@@maudeeb I'm not convinced that's entirely it. His off-the-wall style and surrealism is a particular taste, but that taste is something I've known people including myself pick up as teenagers and still follow his work decades later. There are numerous quotable points he makes about things.
