I will definitely try this recipe. Lol this is not the traditional Bahamian way but if you are on a diet this would be a better option because trust me we use vegetable oil, tomato paste, salt beef or ham etc

Do you need to drain the kidney beans first? Do you recommend this recipe without coconut milk? Do you have a substitute for it possibly?

Yes, you always drain and wash kidney beans. It washes away the sodium from the salted water. Coconut milk gives the dish a rich flavor. You can omit it but it won't be as flavorful.
