The vehicle used in this demonstration is a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500. The process is very straight forward and simple. If you choose to perform this repair, make sure to get your vehicle professionally aligned.

SLT are know for breaking tie rods frequently if your tires are out of balance.

Hi! I just had my upper and lower tie rods replaced on my 2001 dodge 1500 5.9 4x4. They needed replaced because I have large aftermarket wheels. Two days later, my steering seized up and the power steering fluid level is pretty much bone dry. I checked underneath and it looks like it’s dripping fluid from the bottom of the tie rods. Never saw this before! Did the mechanic replace the tie rods incorrectly or would I need a new gear box? Should I have possibly needed an alignment after having the tie rods installed? Any info would be helpful, I appreciate it!😇🙏🏻

If they replaced the upper and lower tie rods that wouldn't play into your power steering fluid unless they inadvertently damaged something while working on it and either didn't notice or tell you about it. Alignment after is always a good idea.

My 2012 keeps breaking too 😂 it's just a Chrysler thing I guess. I just hit 85,000 miles the other day and I need to do the exhaust manifold like you had to and it needs struts

How do you take all the pressure off the joint so its not pinched ?
@MechanicLife3 жыл бұрын
These typically will be on super tight. For some reason this was the first one I am came across that just fell out. Typically you smack the joint with a hammer a few times and it will fall out. You can also buy a tie rod end separator which will help you separate the joint.

My 2013 Ram 1500 is a constant mess. Under 100,000 miles at the time. - New left camshaft and lifters - New heater core/Evaporator coil - Water pump - Both ball joints -Left tie rod I don't think I'll ever buy a Ram again. The more I work on this the truck. The more I realized how shitty of a product/material being used. I know other vehicles are not much different these days as well. I now understand why a lot of guys around my areas are buying Toyota Tundra. Expensive trucks but their parts/materials are well built and made.

The nut on bolt is jammed. It spins the bolt.

You have to press down on the old end to give it pressure

My outer tie rod is stuck. The whole rod just rotates. How do I get this thing off?
@MechanicLife2 жыл бұрын
Rotates at the threads? Or are you talking the whole shaft? If its the whole shaft you need to use a two wrenches at the threaded location. One wrench goes on the shaft the other on the nut. This will allow you to separate them.

@@MechanicLife yeah whole shaft rotates. It’s an 05, I’m the second owner and changing out the suspension. I don’t think it’s ever been done lol
