Hi, thanks for your question. In general, most people are able to return to their everyday routines a few days after cochlear implant surgery. A hospital stay can last from one to several days, depending on local practice and individual needs. However it is best to speak with a medical professional about this who will be able to assess your individual situation and give you medical advice.

Hi there, For children born with hearing loss, getting a cochlear implant as early on is important. This means that they will get more exposure to sounds which helps them develop not only their listening skills, but also their speech and language skills. (Re)rehabilitation is also important, so that they can have meaningful and constructive exposure to sound that will also build their speaking skills. You can read more about this here: blog.medel.com/hearing-earlier-can-mean-hearing-better/ Kind regards, Mary

Always curious about how these work - I never knew they were so high-tech, fascinating! Always assumed it worked via amplified sound transmission. So do patients hear sounds normally (akin to someone without hearing problems) or should they expect just the basics (i.e. does the sound have an echoey, monotonous, or tinny quality)?

Hi Christopher, thanks for your comment. Great question! MED-EL cochlear implants are designed to give our users a natural sound quality. But if you hear with those dont use cochlear implants because people will sound like robots its harder to understand and also you would never go to pool to bath because it would break it down just like hearing aids. At least they told me this but i think its bad idea to have these if you hear fine with hearing aids. Mine is atleast fine altough i hear a little weaker than other people. I just told you my story because i dont want to you regret it if you got these. I got 90-110 db hearing damage which is a lot really
@medel7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, Andrija. You’re totally right, if someone can hear well with hearing aids there is usually no need for a cochlear implant. However, because hearing aids just make sounds louder, then after a certain degree of hearing loss, they won’t be able to help anymore. If the hair cells in the cochlea aren’t working anymore then it doesn’t matter how loud you make a sound, you won’t generally be able to hear it. The first step we always recommend is to see a medical/hearing professional, as they can test a person’s hearing and let them know what their best options are for improved hearing - this could be hearing aids, or hearing implants. Morgan is one CI recipient who tried various hearing aids before getting a CI, and they share their story here: blog.medel.com/morgan-martins-first-hearing-aid-experiences/ It can take time to learn to hear with a cochlear implant, and some things can sound different for people. However, mapping sessions with an audiologist and rehabilitation with a professional and at home will help individuals to hear their best with a cochlear implant. Hundreds of thousands of people have received cochlear implants around the world and are able to live “normal” lives. Many even play music and have demanding jobs. Also maybe you’re not aware but cochlear implant recipients do enjoy swimming and time hearing in the water with their cochlear implants. At MED-EL we have developed WaterWear, which is a waterproof protective cover for the cochlear implant audio processors. If you’re interested in finding out about the experiences of others who use cochlear implants, we share the journeys of CI users from around the world: blog.medel.com/guest-articles/

Hi Rose, in contrast to hearing aids, cochlear implants consist of two parts - an intern part, the implant, and the externally worn audio processor. On our website you can learn more about the various types of MED-EL audio processors: www.medel.com/hearing-solutions/cochlear-implants Kind regards, Barbara

Dear @@ФуркатТурсунов-з3л, deciding to go for a cochlear implant is a very personal decision and many factors can come into place. Also, the hearing journey and progress of each user is different. On our side, we can recommend to always check with the local MED-EL team, as they can assist each candidate and individual directly while assessing their case.

It’s not so bad the first bionic ear was worse with 3 aa battery pack called the WSP worn in pocket with long cable to ear receiver but it has shrunk to this. Being deaf is your choice being able to understand others who are not deaf is the best part of the cochlear. It’s your choice mine was get the cochlear 31 years ago never looked back
