The saddest part of how bad Mediacorp shows are nowadays is not just that they're bad, but that they used to be good. People in Taiwan, China, HongKong and other parts of the world used to watch our shows and our actors were famous in other countries as well, we had a good media industry but it slowly started falling out of relevancy.

The chinese dramas are more like mandarin classes than real dramas, they try to add proverbs and idioms as much as possible into the dialogue which makes it really awkward and most of the time unsuitable. Mediacorp should focus on producing soul catching dramas rather than the ones where parents see the show and think its safe to watch for children.

I remember one of my most favorite show back in the days was a variety show call "It's a small world" hosted by Mark lee, it's a show with all the different foreigners (e.g., american, japanese, korean, arabian?, etc) all coming together to speak/learn mandarin. Had the best laugh back then watching this, shame it stopped after what, 3 seasons? and then was never interested in any other shows lol. Wish they had continued it or bring it back a bit, contents were much more interesting back then.

I'm really glad you talk about this because I've thought of this for a long time finally someone said it online, for them to see and rethink their ideas and concepts, mediacorp really needs to rebump on their content, and also their drama content, like maybe something similar to ah boys to man which is kind of a hit? And some other stuff, like theyre not even taking notes on other medias overseas that's doing very well, take the korean tv media for example, they have variety for different age groups, young, adult, family, teenagers, you can really see the variety but in singapore it's so boring, really, the last time I watch something good was crimewatch every 9pm Sunday, that's it lmaoo

But to be fair, I think it's just the drama that suck. The documentaries (on CNA and Ch8) are actually not bad. The reality series are also terrible most of the time but that's kind of unavoidable given how uncool Singapore mainstream media is. Like who would want to join a Singapore Idol now after the small scale success we see in those that emerge as winners. It's not that they suck - you just can't win and influence without exporting your culture at a scale like Korea. They have part of the GDP put into investing in culture aka those kpop/kdrama companies. It's all part of the country's soft power goals. We are not willing nor capable of doing tt so it's a catch 22...

i agree, there was even one about a family being stuck in a time loop where the dad gets stuck in and he later tells his whole family one by one and they all get sucked into the timeloop as well. They somehow managed to stay sane even tho the timeloop goes into effect whenever the mother of the family gets carted off to a hospital. They didn;t really explore the idea about the timeloop which made it a huge wasted potential of a show.(like none of them committed crimes when they know NOBODY is gonna remember it. Thats unrealistic as hell. the most illegal thing they did was get drunk lmao.

Your video is on-point about Mediacorp big problem today. Watching this vid makes me even more sad since it reminds me only people from the silent generation, like my 91yr grandma stuck in the 70s, who only rely on Mediacorp for their source of entertainment, are the network’s main audience now. Thus, Mediacorp will definitely be in much deeper trouble of making themselves relevant if they continue churning souless and recycled shows once their current main audience finally disappear.

Cult television series like The Avengers, The Prisoner, Department S, any Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Monty Python, Peter Cook, Chris Morris, Rab C. Nesbitt, Monkey Dust, The Young Ones, and some really good cult films. Throw in Snub TV for good measure.

The last good show I watched was "my friends from afar" it is a decent show about aliens, I won't spoil it for any of you, the best show is "the little nyonya", in my opinion, the second best was "the dream makers 2" because the script about the villain and how she acted was so real that she actually got harassed in real life because what she put jeanette aw through.

As an actor working in Singapore, I have to say I don’t watch any of their series that MediaCorp puts out on their local channels. That also includes their web series that they put on their internet streaming network, Toggle. Of course, when I’m involved in any one of their series, I watch them. But that’s about it. All the other episodes, or webisodes in the case of Toggle, that don’t involve me. I don’t even pay any attention to. Plus, I’ve been very critical of MediaCorp and how they currently work, how they stereotype certain characters, how they create a character from a community (like the LGBT community) and display them in a negative light, how they treat their actors and the writing and directions of their series. There’s also not a lot of passion and heart while working on set from both cast and crew. It’s just a quick cash grab. That’s it. Which I find really sad and depressing. That’s my opinion on MediaCorp.

Mediacorp is one of the worst media companies I have encountered and seen and they are so out of tuned. I have not watched Mediacorp shows since 2013. I really find all their shows rather cheesy, predictable and just plain boring. I don't blame the artistes, actors, but damn the content writers are just so damn dry. All the censorship, and restrictions will kill creativity in due time. They dug their own graves. Great sharing Sushi !!!

Literally my ahma who watches all the singing shows and Taiwan dramas feel so bored now cuz of the suckish shows. ok i know basically the entire comment section is gonna hate on mediacorp BUT. try 我的女侠罗明依 or “a quest to heal” (yes the title translations make no sense and they did the drama so dirty lmao) mediacorp channel 8 if anyone's interested. as an avid hater of sg dramas, this one caught my attention. don't worry - it's not about family drama or police stories; it's about two time travellers from the ming dynasty who somehow time travel into sg (makes no sense geographically tbh). although it has its flaws, the character development and plot line definitely way above typical mediacorp dramas. if you do wanna support local talent and watch a decent show from mediacorp this is my recommendation ig

The problem is not a lack of memes, it's their lack in brainpower to know what age groups like what. Example I myself is a secondary school student and I find it quite hilarious that they put PJ Masks in the afternoon, usually primary 3 to 6 people are free in the time. But then they put Miles from Tomorrowland in nursery hours 💀 I clearly know Miles from Tomorrowland is in Disney kids but honestly I still watch the show I find it to be for older kids.
