@@TACCRUSHERR There are other treatments, starting with a conditioner, rather than shampoo. Using shampoo too frequently will also dry out your scalp. You need to keep oils in your hair to keep your scalp from drying out.

I think that dry scalp means that your scalp doesn't produce enough oil to lubricate the surface of your skin and hair. While dandruff is caused by oily scalp.

@alexwilkinson7533 Washing your hair twice a week and gently massaging the scalp can promote healthy hair and scalp, but it may not "make it go forever" if you're referring to issues like dandruff or other scalp conditions. Regular washing can help remove excess oil and dirt, and scalp massages can improve circulation, which is beneficial for hair growth and scalp health. However, if there are persistent scalp issues like dandruff, hair loss, or irritation, it's best to consult with a dermatologist for specific treatment options rather than relying solely on washing routines.

No, you're missing the point. The flakes you get from a dry scalp are _not_ dandruff, quite the opposite, and an anti-dandruff shampoo will only make it worse because you're just drying out your scalp even further.

Is it possible to have both?
@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is possible to have both dandruff and a dry scalp, although they are distinct conditions with different causes and characteristics. Dandruff is often associated with an overgrowth of a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia on the scalp, leading to increased shedding of skin cells, which appear as white flakes. On the other hand, a dry scalp results from the lack of sufficient moisture, causing itching and flaking. In some cases, people may experience a combination of factors, leading to both conditions concurrently. For instance, a dry scalp may occur due to environmental factors, such as cold weather or excessive use of harsh shampoos, while dandruff may be triggered by the presence of the Malassezia fungus. It's important to identify the primary cause to choose the most effective treatment. Using a moisturizing shampoo for dry scalp and an anti-dandruff shampoo for dandruff may be recommended. If you are unsure about the specific condition of your scalp, consulting with a dermatologist can help determine the appropriate course of action for effective treatment.

@punisher5485 Dry scalp can be frustrating, but the good news is you can tackle it with a few tweaks! Try using a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to avoid further drying and add a weekly scalp treatment like coconut oil or tea tree oil to moisturize and soothe. Staying hydrated and avoiding overly hot showers can also help keep that dryness in check. 😊

Okay, so here is what will most likely work for you: - At night, wash hair with water *every day* - Follow up with a conditioner; rinse off after 5 mins. - Use a moisturizing cream / serum afterwards. (Little is enough if you have short hair) Tip: Never, NEVER let your wet scalp air dry. When you put water on skin/hair, and then if it naturally evaporates, it takes away the surrounding water molecules from your scalp/skin too, making it more dry. ALWAYS pat dry your wet hair and and apply something (serum / moisturizer) on damp hair. Shampoo only at most 2x a week.

It sounds like you might be dealing with dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, which can cause dry, itchy scalp and white flakes. Dry, split ends and an itchy scalp can also be signs of overall dryness or damage. To address these issues, consider using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for dry or flaky scalps. Regularly applying a gentle, hydrating scalp treatment or oil might help, and avoiding excessive heat styling or harsh hair products can reduce further damage. If symptoms persist, consulting a dermatologist can help determine the exact cause and appropriate treatment.

@Khadej. It sounds like you might be dealing with seborrheic dermatitis (SD), which often causes flakes on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, and around the nose. It can also cause dryness and itchiness, especially on the scalp, while your face may remain oily. Using an anti-dandruff shampoo is a good start, but it might not always fully resolve SD if it's more severe. It might be helpful to consult with a dermatologist who can provide a more accurate diagnosis and recommend the best treatment for your skin and scalp.

@MedicalCentric Ай бұрын
@Gear5homer It can be tricky to differentiate between dandruff and a dry scalp since both can cause flaking. Dandruff often comes with oily flakes and itchiness, while a dry scalp is typically due to lack of moisture and has finer, drier flakes. Try using a hydrating scalp treatment for dryness or an anti-dandruff shampoo if it’s dandruff, and observe what works best for you!

@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric 5 күн бұрын
@joeyperez6584 I understand how frustrating it can be when you're trying to manage something like hair issues, and it sounds like you've found a solution that works for you in the short term, even though it's not ideal. If not washing your hair completely helps, it might suggest that your scalp is sensitive to certain products or routines. You could experiment with gentler, more natural shampoos, or try washing your hair less frequently and using a dry shampoo in between to keep it fresh. If it’s a scalp condition or sensitivity, consulting a dermatologist might give you more targeted options. Ultimately, finding a balance between hair care and scalp health is key. Keep exploring different methods until you find one that works for you!

dry scalp with bad smell and itches 😢 How can I treat it?
@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you might have dandruff, especially due to the bad smell and itching. Dandruff often involves a fungus on the scalp, leading to an oily, itchy scalp with flaking. To treat it, use anti-dandruff shampoos containing ingredients like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or selenium sulfide. Regular washing can help reduce oiliness and remove flakes. If your condition doesn't improve or worsens, it's important to see a dermatologist for a more specific diagnosis and treatment. Remember, effective treatment often requires consistent use of these specialized products.

If it's dry scalp try combing baby oil into the scalp. Wait a long while before washing it out. If going to bed put paper towels on your pillowcase. This probly won't help if it's already oily scalp and dandruff. But for me, my scalp gets so dry I get millions of flakes and it often itches. The baby oil treatment does help.

@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric 4 ай бұрын
@mayarpapayar It sounds like you might be dealing with a combination of dandruff and a dry scalp. The white flakes and itchiness, especially around your hairline and the back of your head, are common symptoms of dandruff, which can be caused by an overgrowth of yeast or a sensitivity to hair products. However, the dryness you describe might also indicate a dry scalp, possibly exacerbated by not moisturizing enough. It might be helpful to try a moisturizing shampoo or treatment specifically for dry scalp while continuing with the anti-dandruff shampoo. Consulting a dermatologist could give you more personalized advice and a definitive answer.

@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric Ай бұрын
@lindamonteith5580 It's frustrating when dandruff shampoo doesn't fully clear up the flakes. Sometimes it takes a little trial and error to find the right product for your scalp. You might want to try a different dandruff shampoo with active ingredients like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or coal tar, which can be more effective for certain types of dandruff. Also, be sure to leave the shampoo on your scalp for a few minutes before rinsing to allow the ingredients to work. If the problem persists, it could be helpful to see a dermatologist for personalized advice. They might recommend a stronger treatment or help identify any other underlying causes.

@ElsieJumbo-x9o Dealing with dandruff can be frustrating! Here are some tips to help manage it: 1. **Use Anti-Dandruff Shampoo:** Look for shampoos containing active ingredients like zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, or ketoconazole. These can help reduce flakes and soothe the scalp. 2. **Regular Washing:** Wash your hair regularly to help remove excess oil and dead skin cells. 3. **Moisturize Your Scalp:** Consider using natural oils like coconut or tea tree oil, which can help moisturize and reduce dryness. 4. **Avoid Irritants:** Try to avoid hair products with harsh chemicals that can irritate your scalp. 5. **Manage Stress:** Stress can exacerbate dandruff, so finding ways to relax and reduce stress may help. If these tips don’t improve your dandruff, or if it becomes severe, consider consulting a dermatologist for further evaluation and treatment options.

I think you have dry scalp. But the cause of your increased flakes seems to be that shampoo. I have a dry scalp all the while I thought I have dandruff. I have those white flakes and that itches if o dont wash my hair more than 2 days and shampoo once in a week. Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner and use it once or twice a weak. And oil your head 3 times a week. Keep changing your pillow cover and bed cover within a week it will be good if you change pillow cover twice a week. And dont forget to wash your comb regularly in 2 days. This is how I control my dry scalp. But I'm not any doctor please consult a dermatologist. I just shared my tips with you. Hope it helps. ❤

The red skin on your hairline could be due to various reasons, such as irritation, inflammation, or an allergic reaction. It's important to consider factors like the products you use on your hair and scalp, as well as any recent changes in your routine. To determine the cause and address your specific condition, consult with a healthcare professional or a dermatologist for a thorough examination and appropriate treatment, whether it's related to dry scalp, dandruff, or another skin condition.

Using soap and water alone isn't the most effective way to treat dandruff, as it's often caused by an oily scalp, yeast overgrowth, or skin conditions like seborrheic dermatitis. To better manage dandruff, you might want to try a medicated shampoo that contains ingredients like ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione. These shampoos target the underlying causes of dandruff and can provide more effective relief. It's worth giving one of these a try to see better results!

Go to a pharmacy. Ask for ketoconazole 1% or 2%. If they don't have it, ask for an alternative antifungal dandruff wash. Wet hair, massage into scalp. Leave for 30mins (instructions say 3mins. 30mins is better) Wash out with an off-the-shelf anti-dandruff shampoo. Rinse. Do it again in 2-3 days. Do this for a few weeks and you'll be a new person! 👍😉 Taper off using it as much until you strike the right frequency for you. 👍 Thank me later 👍😉
@MedicalCentric

@MichaelJeffrey Ketoconazole is indeed a powerful antifungal treatment for dandruff, and using it as you've described can be very effective. Leaving it on longer than the instructions suggest can sometimes enhance its effectiveness, but be sure to monitor your scalp for any irritation. Combining it with an anti-dandruff shampoo and adjusting the frequency over time sounds like a solid plan for long-term control. It’s great advice for anyone struggling with persistent dandruff-thank you for sharing! 👍😉
