AS "MED SCHOOL INSIDERS" you should be aware of how difficult it is to quit smoking..... of all things. I stopped reading at page 32 of the book "Atomic Habits" when it asserted the idea that it held the key to quitting smoking. When you prelude your book with appeals to science, etc. and then you swap to basically trying to push the idea that your book holds the secret to quitting smoking the hardest substance to quit, harder than coke, harder than herion... if you're putting up a lie that big that quickly I seriously am starting to doubt the book's efficacy in real life. Not just because of the "British Cycling Team" footnote which at the time of writing should have been more or less "common knowledge" that anyone competing in that sport was flat out doping. How did they know Lance Armstrong was doping? BECAUSE THEY WERE DOPING TOO AND STILL LOSING. I seriously urge anyone wanting to read the book of a former brain injury patient as worthy to read at all because of the bad information found just in chapter 1 alone not just because the author claimed to have 200,000 "email subscribers" while only having 5,000 followers on KZbin here now.... I mean where do the lies start and stop? Do you blame the brain injury? Like really man cmon. I just get the impression that trying to extract knowledge from that book will be similar to obtaining a healthy meal from a garbage can that has been in use for quite some time. "BUYER BEWARE"

Winners and losers have the same goals? According to what research or evidence? And winners and losers won't have the same systems.... Or if everyone has the same system we get more winners? Utter boll... Just like most of these bs books... Doesnt even stand up to the most casual of analysis... yet its what people want to hear, so they listen...

I do this thing when I want to form a habit, like, for instance, running. I get up really early. Dress down like you would for a gym class. All the while I'm thinking..I really don't want to do this. So I tell myself, all you have to do is dress down and walk to the end of the walkway. Thats a grand total of about..20 feet. Then you can turn around and go back to bed. Thats all I have to do to fulfill the contract I have with myself. It (almost) never fails. I get dressed..all ready. Go out. Walk 20 ft. Look around and think. This is silly. All dressed up and no place to go. I'll just walk to the end of the block and then go back in. Wull..by then..might as well go at least to the hill..and so on. In time it went from walk to run/walk/run/walk. In six months I was running four miles almost every morning..each day telling myself..the end of the walkway. Thats all you have to do. Some mornings..I really did only go to the end of the walkway. Didn't care if it looked silly, but those mornings were rare, and generally a reason would surface later on as to why. A cold or over fatigued or something. I learned to be okay with less than perfection because my contract was..just to the end of the walkway. Anything more was extra. I use this for any new habit I want to form. It "jumpstarts" my brain. I can't deal with the idea of, for instance, running four miles..but a very short walk is doable. It worked for school..for anything pretty much.

I did this both with working out and studying. I often completely space out due to my ADD whenever I actually have to use my brain and then basically go " Oh, I can't concentrate anyways so I might as well fuck around on the internet" But then I forced myself to sit down 30 minutes for a study session without paying attention to anything else, even if I just stare at the same sentence for the entirety of the time (and I had a lot of those sessions....) It's helped immensely with building the habit of studying every day. Just staring at the material until I manage to absorb some information is already a success to me.

@@svogel6459 It works, doesn't it? You just capitalize on your weaknesses.
@MrJayak6 жыл бұрын
Excellent..Its taking one step at a time for your goal... Whatever small may be the step, you are doing an initial action which is easier to feed the brain to have a go at it, rather than thinking about the entire goal of walking,for example 4miles at first which will make you more chance to procrastinate due to the end goal of 4miles.

campsite a that's because the book doesn't exactly address the distinction between bad habits and addictions. I think you should've read the power of habit first and the atomic habits (James actually points out this by saying it's like a continuation of Duhhig's Power of habit), you would've had a better understanding.

I’m in pre-med and in our country pre-med is harder than real med school in TERMS of competition. Not in the actual syllabus, of course. Only top 4.4% students in pre-med get seats in medical schools. Merit closed at 90.1818 for my city. It means scoring a 90.1817 means you can never get into med school and are a waste. So Habits are really important. And what this guy told is actually what a real topper of Pre med told me. Truly amazing and not a co incidence. This is the BEST video for those who are willing to improve.

The phrase “life optimisation” is stressful in itself. Anxiety inducing. I agree with the concept of tiny baby steps for progressive change. Let’s redefine “success” for the next generation so they feel less pressure to achieve, strive, make things happen. Can’t they just enjoy the moment? It would be really nice to see kids just flow & play for a change.

My story: I have been on a weight loss awareness since I had my first, second, third and forth child. I though I would have to jump around doing cardio or get a gym membership to lose all the weight. I thought the extreme measures that was taking me out of my comfort zone was gonna help me make dramatic weight loss changes. Tried it and Yes I lost weight here and there. But I yoyo-ed back to even more weight once everyday life hit. 😅. I felt uncomfortable and basically not good about me. Basically I look fat but I didn’t care. 😅 Last year I decided re-program my mind and take out all the un-healthy thoughts and belief I had about weight loss and the main question: Who am I? I slowly work on me, what i enjoyed doing, who I enjoyed life with and basically self-love. I changed from the inside out. I decided to make tiny changes every day and no extreme workouts or gym memberships. This was 10 months ago and with just a new mindset and weeding out unhealthy thought and belief I was able to lose 1 pound every one to two weeks. (For a women that’s a lot😉). Im a different person because I am now choosing to live in every single moment. Enjoy the little things guys, literally.

Interestingly enough, over a year ago I started doing little bits of research about changing habits. I have changed and set a few habits, but I still need to change a lot. But during all this time I started looking differently at myself. I am someone who works on self improvement. Two years ago I was not a person like that. A year ago I also wasn't a person like that. Half a year ago I felt like I may be becoming a person like that. And now I think I am a person like that :)

Every morning, since like two years, I brush my teeth with my left hand, which is my weaker side. In the very beginning you really have to force yourself to learn to properly clean your mouth, haha. Now I don't even have to think about it anymore. It was more to prove myself, that I CAN create any habits. Then over the time I added other little micro routines. At the moment, I finally established a stable 15 Minutes Meditation every day. It might take month, or even years to form healthy habit, but if you don't give up, you will find yourself coming home late at night, drunk and stoned and brush your teeth with the other hand and you'll know: You are on the right path! ;D
