Putting words into action is one of the hardest thing to do for an addict. Then we have to maintain that action. Thus, the multiple relapses (usually) before recovery begins to stick. Think of it this way, it's like electricity, it's always easier to return to the drug of choice than keep making the hard (but right) choices.

She has so much emotional depth and complexity and is so observant. She exactly called out what i though about: you become so desensitized to homeless people, you don't think of them as "full humans" anymore. I definitely am guilty of this. It is so weird seeing someone who could be a school teacher or something on the street. This makes you think that everyone whos on the street could have lived normally if life treated them better. Those issues are never their fault. Everybody has the potential to be good at heart. And she is so sensitive to this and reflects it, just like me. It's so chilling to realize homeless people are not flat characters, they're full people deserving of a warm and safe home.

Humanitarians can easily become addicts because they become depressed & choose legal or illegal drugs. People like me was forced to become chemical dependents & tested on as children & given false diagnoses to make drug companies rich pushing toxic recalled medications & legal drugs similar to street drugs in chemical make. It’s truly sad the world they designed corruptly & ensures most our self destruction in one way or another or the addiction to things even like sugar that’s found to cause issue yet legal. Drugs we think destroy you & are injected but are also ingested & kill people. Even food addiction & obesity in record killed more people than cancer & drug addiction sadly.

As a registered nurse, I have had dozens of patients with history of IV drug use and currently actively use. Had a lady in the hospital for 2 months and in isolation. For the first 2 weeks she cried and screamed in agony every night during the withdrawals. She was thrashing so hard I had to put her in restraints. She almost stroked out from the withdrawal alone. Had very severe septic arthritis amongst other life threatening conditions. All because she was addicted to heroin. Every nurse that took care of her couldn’t stand her. She would cuss them out or feel they were judging her. However her and I had a mutual respect and understanding. All she wanted was to be heard and understood. She felt like the doctors didn’t care. Felt they saw her as a “stereotypical” addict. One of the saddest cases I’ve had. Please don’t overlook these people🙏

I'm over 30 and see that it is unfortunate rather than taking as to heart as I did.. but it still hurts like hell.:(- that, compounded with that I don't agree with his zealous religious views (example: I cannot say to an adolescent in SEast Asia- "You follow this OR burn for eternity!") Unfortunately these people need alot of help and even more unfortunate is there isn't a ton of free resources out there for poor folks hooked on dangerous, hyper addictive drugs. So they steal or get into other dumb and dangerous situations, which leads them to prison, and not every prison is interested in helping them fix their life as much as they are interested in punishment. So when they get out are they in a better spot then before they got locked up? Comments like the one about hugging her will get you fleas or robbed are a pretty common view about these folk. Alot of the addicts I know are brutally aware people think they are scum, and it helps keep them in this dark place they use hard drugs to escape. Detroit and the federal government probably have programs that could help, but they aren't effectively promoted so people don't know how to get help or who is there to help. Sad fucking state of affairs and I hope public support for programs to help people get back on track really grows because our current methods aren't doing enough. Good on this KZbinr for doing what they could to help this person. I've been down and out before, not as bad as her by any stretch but I've had a taste of my own and watched many friends do this to themselves, a little kindness and compassion can go a long way for someone in a bad place.

In that state she can’t reflect on her life... she can’t be rational... it’s an endless circle that she can’t break out right now. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Sometimes a push from someone who isn’t involved is needed. Drug addicts are like children. You need to take them by the hand. She’s so miserable cause of her state that she thinks the solution is more drugs even though she wants to break out... it’s a matter we can’t understand cause we’re not addicted. So I know Jana personally and have relations with her for about 7 or 8 years. I met her in the very early stages of mine and her addiction/using. I was very close with her being a seeing each other veryday and having some amazing good times , as well as sometimes some not so good times...obviously it's addicting right ? Lol but no matter what were into at the time she was always herself and the same loving , good hearted person always. She was beyond nice to any and everyone and A LOT of undeserving bad people. She went through a few toxic relationships that were nothing but unhealthy and traumatizing. But she was the girl who loved hard and didn't leave when she deserved so much better. She put up with abuse from several guys who also used and she used to cover it up instead of leaving. But Jana never let that take her heart and shine away ...jana was always still Jana. Her smile lights up the room and even in active bad addicton she STILL has that light and beauty to her. The last time I got to see and hug her was about a month ago maybe and she was okay. I see her often because she is squading out of a vacant bar in my negbiorhood, with her boyfriend, whom is also abusive. I was told that she jumped out of the bar window , or should say she "feel" but in reality it was to run away from his abuse. Smh she broke both legs in result to it but has recovered fine and walking. I try to check on her from time to time when I can and make sure she's fine. She always manages to get money off me after I get my hug from her tho lol but it's so worth it knowing it helps her. She is one of the most down to earth and caring person I've honestly ever met, yeah she is an addict but there is so much more to her that she is in my eyes. Addicting takes over the best of us unfortunately.

This lady reminds me of my mother. So much beauty and... good quality put inside her soul. Wanting to cook and write and enjoy/love humans around them, but the addiction has such a evil, tight grip.
