Mohammed codjoe, you are absolutely right ,I am from DRC and I have seen some of my people do it, throw a party, have arguments because their kids have finished uni only for some of them to end up doing what they did not go to school for, for me I let my kids choose their own path with a little bit of advice from me , as long as they are happy in what they are doing that is fine by me

@@noisycomment1990 This is a mistake a lot of people who've never lived as minorities make. @@danielkanbi9245 Thank you sir, I remember Osibisa when I was very Young in Africa before I came to UK. So I thought, surely, everyone in that band group must be old now, anyone that can remember the band must be old too - But looking at you Sir, you look very young! I remember vividly how my older sister's husband will play Osibisa, Jimmy Cliff and Jim Reeves music at at the Police barrack were we lived. The beating of the conga blasting away and everyone singing and gyrating to the music of Osibisa. I remember Sir, I cleaned Every inch, including four wooding legs stand of that Ivory Gramophone (smudge-free with some very smelly brown cleaning liquid stuff) every Sunday before they delicately place a polished vinyl record; The continuous non-stop playing vinyl record after another! My Sunday. LOL. PS: I thought the Ivory on the Gramophone were made of biscuit fingers. Oh dear - good memories! Your daughter is wonderful, truth be known, she is the real reason why today the world have the best African You Tuber - Wode Maya! The interview with you sir, was really nice and so cool! But at least he took you to visit Africa at an early age. So you never became totally disconnected with Africa as it may be the case for others in your situation. Her father's generation that travelled out of west Africa were largely not economic migrants. Usually post late 70s and1980s. But from 80s onward, a flood of economic migrants traveled out enmass. I am from Nigeria. I had family friends and cousins who would just go on holiday and come back. Then our currency was stronger than US dollar and at par with UK pound. But the moment the exchange rate skyrocketed, people had more economic reasons to travel. Most that left Nigeria to study in the 70s and before usually had jobs and cars waiting. Life was good then.

It’s always disheartening to hear when a parent of African decent didn’t teach their kids their native language. So sad to me to see that. Other ethnic groups it’s a must for their next gen to know. Shows how deep colonization ran through us. Great interview.

Everyone is not the same. I was born and raised in the UK and was bought up bilingual in my mother language. My father was a economic migrant and bought my mother over to Wales. But it can be difficult to learn the language if there is only one parent that speaks to the child in the mother tongue. Please let’s not judge him as we have all our flaws. At the end of the day he has a beautiful daughter & has raised her to be a lovely human being that is so passionate about her Ghanaian culture. May Allah bless this beautiful family.

Zainab Nur My girl why would you think are assume that’s casting judgement? I’m only pointing out one of many things that goes on when you mix cultures. Let me show you. I am Jamaican born, bread in NYC. Brooklyn. All and I mean all of children know my native language. Culture. And tht is thanks to my Jamaican mother. She made sure all of us knew where we come from and how important it is to have and love our culture. When we immigrated to the US our culture had to adjust cuz we’re in a new land. You see we didn’t change it we adjusted due to the new society. When I was out of the home I spoke their language. When I was inside my home I spoke my native language. That’s one example. Next example is two parents mixing their culture ( marriage) even the if one parent isn’t in the home. That child still comes from two cultures. If the parents are married, living in the same household. There should be no dam excuse. Period. If separated. When your with mom, she teaches you her culture. When your with dad, he teaches you his. That’s all. Some parents are dam lazy or they don’t respect nor love where they come from to put in the work. Not saying this is what Vanessa’s dad did. But people must know. When you mix cultures. You need to know what your doing. Especially when you produce off springs. My son’s father is Italian and he don’t teach him his language or culture. I don’t care cuz my baby knows mines

@@yonab8649 I do actually sympathize with the situation if it's a marriage between people of different racial and cultural background. What I find difficult to understand is two full blooded Africans or Ghanaians that decides to deprived their children of their native tongue. And this happens a lot here in America and elsewhere in the Western hemisphere. It almost seems like they are ashamed of their African tongue.

No disrespect but so many parents whose first language is not English always say that they don't want to teach their children their mother tongue. So short sighted. Whilst they speak two or more languages. It is so disappointing. Losing a languages cuts us off from a large part of our heritage.

This thing about confusing children by teaching children another language I've heard before it it totally false children have the capacity to learn any number of languages far from confusing them it will enhance their lives you can actually speak your native language at home because children will still become fluent in the host countries language through school and through media
