Unfortunately, for some time now, they have been trying to force it as if Storm were as powerful as Thor, but she is not as much as Thor. Her being a "goddess" was supposed to be just the way the people of her homeland saw her, but not that she was really a goddess. But for some time now, they have wanted to force her as a goddess on Thor's level. What's worse is that there are a lot of people who buy into this artificial idea. I've heard comments on KZbin saying that she was just as strong, or people disregarding Thor's victories over her, saying that this happened because it was during the period when Marvel was boycotting the X-Men, when in fact this happened well before.

They've been treating Storm like a literal god for quite a while now, and the idea of her and Thor teaming up as the 'gods of thunder' is itself old at this point. Claremont really started the whole thing with the Asgardian Wars story where Loki tricked Storm into accepting a newly-forged Asgardian hammer that would restore her powers in a bid to become the ruler of Asgard, and villains have been falling over themselves to praise Storm since Doctor Doom when Uncanny was in the 140s. But Storm was at her most interesting during that period in the mid-80s where she lost her powers, and it's been pretty much downhill ever since. The declaration that Omega-level literally means 'unlimited power' was the end of any interest I could have in her character. Whether it's Jean, Iceman, Storm, or any other character saddled with that terrible label, if I hear the word 'omega,' I take it as synonymous with 'boring' and turn away. The idea that they're trying to make Forge into an Omega-level mutant now is reason enough to stay far away from the current X-Force series.

When I first started reading X-Men at 11 years old, Storm was the first fictional character I fell in love with. I remember when Forge stripped her over powers and said to her she was now: "Just plain folk." It ripped at your heart. I also remember in Uncanny X-Men number 227, I believe, when she got her powers back. She said: "The lightning! It's returned!" I'm not ashamed to say I almost cried. That's the humanized version of storm that I love. They're going to ruin her with this, and it breaks my heart.

I heavily disagree. Immortal Thor is no Immortal Hulk, but its still a pretty good read that pays respect to the abilities of Thor, especially if you have knowledge of Norse Mythology. I *DO* agree that Marvel is glazing Storm quite a bit lately. Normally, I wouldn’t be against this, but for some reason, everyone keeps calling her a goddess, even though she’s a Mutant. It seems kind of weird because I remember Storm being a very humble woman who would reject such claims, correcting that she’s only a Mutant. But now *everyone* goes out of their way to call her a goddess, and Ororo just embraces this. It just seems like she’s really losing that humility to her character that I found appealing. Even X-Men 97 isn’t exempt from this.

This is getting embarrassing. As a woman myself, I welcome female heroes and existing ones with open, but not when they aim to mimic the behaviour that the worst of the men commit. In this case, they want EVERYTHING and not letting the opposite gender have something to call uniquely their own. In this case, it's Thor. Only Thor can be Thor and he cannot replaced. Nor should he be. That is the point of him. I really want people to stop trying to break him and every other great male character. This is not feminist writing because tearing down men to uplift women is just another way of showing they can't stand on their own two feet.

@Thinking Critical, Are you aware of Uncanny X-Men Annual #9, back in the 1980's? Because that's where they stole this "making Storm a god" thing from. They even stole the outfit she's wearing now, from it. Only in That story, it was Loki who gave her the powers, wanted her to rule Asgard with him, even had a Mjölnir-like hammer made for her. Yet in the end, she Refused the powers. + (It was a great story, and is also in "The Asgardian Wars" TPB, which I highly recommend)

Actually, Thor has been replaced several times. 1) Jane - not only replaced him, but took his name. 2) Eric Masterson - posed as Thor on Earth, while Real Thor was busy elsewhere. Eric became Thunderstrike. 3) Iron Man/Tony Stark created an android version of Thor, during Civil War I ??? 4) Odin replaced Thor in Asgard because Thor was too busy on Earth. The replacement looked like Mythical Thor. Explaining why MC Thor doesn't have red hair, etc. (Back in Donald Blake and Jane Foster days) Not sure about the Thor Corp extras - Beta Ray Bill and Dargo Ktor. Thor and Peter are becoming the Rodney Dangerfields of Marvel. No respect.

Okay, this goes without saying that there are female comic book readers, but around 79% of comic book readers are male. Why pander to the smaller audience? How can you expect to make sales when doing that? You should definitely have female heroes. But they don't need to replace characters with female heroes. Let them have their own stories. I'm so tired of people lifting Thor's hammer. Every time someone new has lifted it it has degraded Thor as a character. Thor is basically an immortal. He has had many, many lifetimes to gain the knowledge required to be worthy, to be truly selfless, to achieve that level of benevolence. Humans are imperfect by default and with a few exceptions, and I do mean VERY few, we shouldn't be able to lift Mjölnir. I know there's a lot of lore that contradicts what I just wrote, but that lore sucked when it was written and still sucks now. When written well, being "worthy" meant something. Now it just means "oh, look, that character must be awesome cause they can lift Thor's hammer!". Thor's hammer is now basically a writer's validation device for whatever character they want to venerate.

I dont mind what they're doing with Storm however I think she should remain as the ruler of Arrako, I liked her in there as the leader of those wild mutants. Avengers feels like a step down... Thor taking his leave from Avengers also feels like a step down for him too. so in my opinion they're both in worse places | I do like Avenger teams that are a bit off the beaten path and not the normal line up. Change things around to offer a fresh take and give lesser known characters a chance to shine.

Regarding Storm replacing Thor. There is actually real precedent here. Loooong time ago, there was a great story set in Asgard across the X-Men/New Mutant annuals, (early eighties, sorry, i cant be assed looking through my books to find the actual year. 86 or 87 maybe.) This story saw most of the mutants transformed into Asgardians of sorts, and Storm actually was given her own hammer and awesome Asgardian armour (courtesy of the amazing Arthur Adams supplying the design) Thing is, it sounds like the current writers are missing a big opportunity to tie this story into current events. Why does it often feel like the current Marvel alumni don't know anything about the characters they're paid to write?

Yeah, Storm used to be a headstrong but compassionate character, but ever since the Krakoan Era, she, like Kitty, has transformed into a "girlboss." I still remember when de-powered Storm with a mohawk beat Cyclops for leadership of the X-Men. I was a kid and thought it was so cool. If they did that now I’d see right through it as just appeasing ESG.

​@@waxywaxenheimer4169 Exactly! The reason Storm challenged Scott to that duel wasn’t about trying to be a "girlboss." Scott was mentally exhausted and unfocused, torn between his responsibilities to the X-Men and his family. Maddie even begged Storm to help him see reason, and that’s why she stepped up and challenged him-it was about doing what was best for Scott and the team. Storm and Logan clashed plenty of times too. One of the most well-known moments is when she tells him to sheath his claws. She didn’t say it to assert dominance over him. Logan often struggled with his rage, and his claws were dangerous, especially since the X-Men had a strict no-kill policy. Storm was just doing her duty as a leader. Despite these clashes, they still remain the best of friends. While I agree that Storm occasionally veered into "girlboss" territory in the past-especially with her sudden "Queen of Wakanda" status, which came out of nowhere-it wasn’t until Krakoa that things truly went off the rails. Like many classic X-Men, her character was completely transformed. Like Kitty, it made me seriously question whether this was even the same character anymore. And the answer? It wasn’t. What’s ironic is that while Kitty faced major negative consequences for becoming a girlboss by the end of Krakoa, Storm faced none. Marvel even doubled down on it during the From the Ashes era, calling her the Earth's Mightiest Mutant and the Queen of All Mutants. The only reason she was included in the Avengers was because she was too high and mighty to stay in an X-Men team anymore. And since Thor was more powerful than her in the Avengers, they kicked him out and gave her his "blessing." Nowadays, Marvel doesn’t know the difference between a strong female character and a girlboss. To them, they’re the same thing. Gotta fulfill that ESG agenda and secure that DEI money!

@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw Thanks for the compliment, my man! 😊😊 Yeah, like the majority of the X-Men, her character began to nosedive two decades ago, especially with that sudden, out-of-the-blue, creepy retconned "relationship" with Black Panther as kids and her becoming Queen of Wakanda. After that, she’s just been shuffled from one title to another. You’ve summarized her character during the Krakoan era so beautifully, I have absolutely nothing to add! 😊🤣👏 The funny thing is, the previous Avengers vs. X-Men also happened when Storm was kind of an active Avenger. Now she is again, and they’re repeating the same thing. Marvel should really stop embarrassing themselves. 😒

I loved Storm when she wasn't OP. She's a mutant mistaken for a goddess, not an actual goddess. Thor should have outpowered her but for somewhy human mutants can rise to god status. This Ororo is toxic to me because she's not what she was meant to be. I didn't like the Celestial OP base, nor do I like the OP living city. I liked a mansion coming back but then they turned Herc gay and that's not the Herc I want. So... still neither Avengers is made for me. Maybe eventually. Writers should probably read the comics that turned characters into cultural icons and maybe discern what they are doing wrong.

This is silly. Storm is cool, I loved her as leader back in the 80's or 90's but there is no way she's on Thor's level. And I'm sick of different people weilding Thor's hammer. It's stupid. I can I say I'm really sick of Marvel adding new powers to existing power sets, the amount of omega mutants has been ridiculous for along time and all this is usually a sign of writers who don't have talent to know what to do with a character so they chuck more powers on them and make them more godly. Then you wonder later why X-Men or Avengers aren't curb stomping everyone. And now Ororo is magical and an actual goddess and in so doing they have destroyed her character and made it probably pointless to be on any X-Team without pretending she isn't one. I agree with Wes, particularly when taken together with her new mutant supremacist attitude and participation in torture (Sebastian Shaw) Storm is gone. I don't know who this distasteful and silly character is.

Blame the Krakoa era for ruining her character! 😅Yes, she is now kind of an arrogant prick and behaving as if she's a queen of mutants while ironically rejecting any throne people want her to sit on! (In X-men Red, when the Arrako mutants offered her the throne of Arrako, she destroyed it and said: "There will be NO THRONES on Arrako"!
