That was her possibly showing appeasement behavior which may be because she wants him to stop. She seemed very uncomfortable with the petting and him sitting on the couch with her. Obviously because of her background, you can tell by her body language when he is on the couch next to her. For example, she starting lip licking, yawning, panting and her lips were pulled back. These are all key body language from a dog showing they are extremely uncomfortable with what is around them or being done to them. She seems much calmer when she is being left alone on the dog bed.

fun fact the alpha idea isn't used by animal behaviourists any more since the original study that looked into wolf behaviour in captivity placed multiple packs of wolves into the same space. the current theory is that wolves are much more communal than we had previously thought.

My grey Winnie was 22kg (48 lbs) when we adopted her (now weighs 24kg/52lbs), so she's a tiny girl. She gets mistaken for a large Whippet constantly, and can even fit in some Whippet clothing. She was a racing grey that never made it to the track (just trained), I'm guessing because she's so small and doesn't really have a prey drive (cat safe). Julien is actually the reason I found out about greyhound adoption and his experiences with greys was the reason I decided to adopt one! I'm so thankful that I did, she's the sweetest dog I've ever met. Greys really are such an amazing breed

I love that you foster greyhounds! My husband and I had a greyhound about 10 years ago that was a retired racer. He looked exactly like her! We are wanting to get another one soon. The one we had sadly got bone cancer in one of his hind legs and unfortunately had to out him down.

A lot of times their first name will come from the “farm” they were born on, which is why they have the same first name as their mom. Then they may give the litter names in a theme. One of my dogs was born on the Flying Eagles farm (in Arkansas I think), and he and his littermates were all named after old saints, so his racing name was Flying Origen. Because of that pattern I was able to find a Facebook group of people who’d adopted dogs also born on that farm and I connected with the owners of most of his littermates. My other greyhound’s litter were all named after old Hollywood stars without the farm name, so I haven’t been able to find her siblings.

We thought one of our rescue girls was lame from an injury for the longest time until I did a deep dive one night and learned about corns! Greys get them too and they can cause so many problems 🥺 Xena is actually still bigger than our smallest ex racer, looks like they must breed ‘em bigger in the states haha, I’m super happy you guys are passionate about these dogs too - they can be very hard work and super stressful (as you probably know) but it’s beyond rewarding when they are finally able to just “be doggos” and enjoy life 🖤

My sweet SugarPop is a tiny exracer too. 57 lbs . So smol. She’s 10 years old. Raced 150 times and was a brood mom. She has racing injuries and bad back foot. MoKan Greyhounds is a wonderful place to adopt from.

My family recused a racing greyhound when I was around 10 years old.. her name was speck (short for old speckled hen 😂 her racing name)..
