Having been in the avian field for nearly 40yrs now. And working "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. You have to be in this field of work to understand his passion and what drives him to love these Toucan's so much. I feel much the same about "corvids" that family of birds consisting of; Ravens, Crows, Rooks, Jackdaws, Jays, Magpies, and Nutcrackers are some of my favorites to work with. Their sheer intelligence, being able to figure out complex puzzles and forge strong family bonds with each other. These are just some of the traits i find so endearing about them. Not to mention that Ravens probably my favorite of the lot. Can learn human speech as well as if not better than some of the best talking parrots which i've also worked with and had as personal pets. Just to give you an idea of how smart Ravens really are. I was on a field expedition in Norway. And watched this ice fisherman out on a pond. Well this Raven came DAILY and sat and observed this man very diligently. And then it happened right before my eyes in amazement. The raven flew down looked inside the ice hole. Saw the fishing line took one part of it in it's beak and the other between it's feet and started bobbing it up and down. Well i never imagined he would actually get a bite. BUT HE DID...!!! He pulled up that line holding one end down with his foot and pulling the other up with his beak. He got that fish alright and took off with it. To say i was in sheer amazement would be a vastly gross understatement. I had watched these same birds rolling down snow laden small hills doing somersaults just for the sheer delight of it. I never imagined they knew how to fish...!!! It just went to show me and my colleagues that nature never ceases to amaze. And just when we think we have all the answers. It will surprise us with something new we never imagined could happen. That's what drives me and keeps me motivated in this field of work. So to this gentleman i say this. Keep doing what your doing not only for the good cause of the rehab work but that passion that drove you as a kid into an adult. Because that's what it's all about. And also educating those who yearn for and share the same passion.

I always wanted a Toucan but when I did my research I found that they live longer in the wild than as pets. We don't yet know all their needs. A local pet shop had a human raised baby. I think people like you are amazing to take in injured animals like this. It's a lot of work and it's such a win-win when you clearly love doing it. 🙂

What a sweet video!! I've never watched a Toucan Fan before. You're so kind sounding. I LOVE how they tip their heads back and just toss a blueberry down the hatch the way they do. My friend's mother did bird rescue, I stopped by to see him and she had a toucan. He was on top of the cage so I dropped my shoulder for him to climb on. Walking into the living room there is a collective gas as they saw him. Apparently he was vicious and would rip your ear off... I stopped by every day for weeks after that to help get him hand touchable.
